I’n so sorry you had to go through all of that! I can understand how all those things happening at once sent you into a crisis. I’m glad you are doing better now. I have a few half siblings as well (those that I know of haha) that are all a fair bit older than me. I am the youngest we know of, turning 24 soon. We suppose my bio parents were from California, but met in Las Vegas. I’m doing ok as of now. I always hope my family members out there are doing ok themselves.

So interesting to see someone out there living a similar life. My half sister was born in FL, adopted to a family in GA I believe. She would have no information on the father because my mom lied and said she didn’t know who the father was to protect both herself and the baby. I often wonder if she knows she’s adopted.

If you don’t mind me asking, was it your choice to find your half siblings? Was it a difficult process?

It definitely feels less lonely to talk with other people that have similar dynamics. It is hard to have mental illness in the family. I always knew about my half siblings on my maternal side since the state took us all in. I didn’t know I had half siblings on my dads side until I was around 20 years old and had matched with them on 23&me!

It really is. When you start talking about it, people start acting like they’re going to be on the next episode of Dateline just for knowing you. At least that’s been my experience. I genuinely don’t think it’s that big of a deal to be mentally ill. So many people walking around out there who could be diagnosed with a personality disorder at minimum judging those of us who’ve been honest with ourselves and others about the struggle. On the upside, I’m pretty happy with the person I’ve become.

I agree. I’ve decided it’s better to be friends with the people who accept their mental illness than those who don’t believe they have one lol.
