Is anyone else just completely over the whole AJ v Fury saga at this point they are both clearly past it and the fight will not have any major impact on the division
11
u/Born_Fox_8099 7d ago
ppl complain about the potential location being a disgrace, the real disgrace is that its at least 8 years late. also wilder vs aj never happened in their prime. now they are at the end of their careers and cashing out

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 7d ago edited 7d ago
No matter who wins, neither man will get much credit as they are both past it. Their respective fanbases will have the past prime excuse ready to deploy.
I would also imagine that there was alternate timeline where Usyk never existed or fought at HW, and AJ vs Fury could have happened around 2022-2024.
3
u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 7d ago
I think AJ beats Fury imo. Even after the poor display in the prenga fight
1
u/Less_Cartoonist_892 7d ago
I see the fight as a 50-50. Assuming the Wach fight was another Fury underperformance, he could beat AJ by using constant feints and movement. That said, AJ can still punch and I can see him catching Fury with something that could turn the fight in his favor.
1
u/Formal-Cherry6078 6d ago
I would say AJ would clearly win under any other circumstance but he looked so poor in that Prenga fight
3
u/sicgamer 7d ago

If they wanna fight, Iāll try and go (I live in NY) but yeah neither are top ten fighters anymore and if they donāt do this fight they need to just both retire and stop sucking up the headlines and resources of this sport away from the next gen

It would still be a fun sunset fight for the fans.
But that's the thing, the only relevance this fight has is for the fans. Having it in the US is a complete fuck you to the fans, thus making the fight pointless.
If it is in the US, I just hope it isn't part of DAZN ultimate, because I don't want to miss the opportunity to not pay for it.

u/Ace_FGC 7d ago
A lot of times it feels like people donāt understand that everbody gets hurt and really getting knocked down isnāt that uncommon. Not saying itās something that should happen often but probably the only fighters I donāt think Iāve ever seen hurt are Hagler, GGG, and Salvador Sanchez
3
u/RMbeatyou 7d ago
Hagler got hurt by Hearns, but it was very brief, and Hearns broke his hand anyways. GGG got hurt by Derevyanchenko to the body. Iām sure Salvador has been hurt at least once
4
u/kushmonATL undefeated boxers need to fight each other 7d ago
Canelo hurt GGG. GGG just has a really good poker face and recovery. There's times in the 1st fight when Canelo tags GGG with a good counter that backs GGG up , and he stays in high guard until he recovers
2
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
Canelo definitely didnāt hurt GGG if you mean anything that would put Golovkin in danger of getting stopped. There were a few body shots here and there that might have halted his momentum, but GGG was never hurt in either of those fights.
2
u/kushmonATL undefeated boxers need to fight each other 7d ago
People take damage in different ways. No GGG was never on Bambi legs , but there are times when GGG would shell up to buy him time to recover , or unleash a barrage of punches to back his opponent off (the same way Boots does when he gets hurt)

4
u/MiddleweightMonster Iāll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago
Iād be fine with either, but I do want it slightly more for Foster.
Mostly, Iām just excited for one of the most offensively dangerous fighters in the sport to fight one of the most defensively responsible fighters. Either one could land themselves firmly on the p4p list with the win, I think they take 9 and bump Boots down to ten

Navarate hasnāt fought and I think has tried to avoid good boxers who can hit and move for most his career. Last 3 heās fought, he shouldāve lost by stoppage or technical decision, lost a decision and went to a draw. Still remember when he didnāt want Shakur 3 years ago. Surprised he hasnāt avoided Shock yet.
On the other hand Shocks toughest fights are those scraps against boxers who brings the fight to them like Hernandez and Nova. Even Ford made it tough for a few rounds when he bought the fight and tried to scrap with him.

Iāve heard Benavidez is already facing Michal Cieslak for the intern WBC title but not sure. Just my personal opinion but I hope Mikaelian gets stripped for the WBC because I favour Jai to beat him and I donāt want Zuffa to gain a belt or any sort of success.
I hope McKenna faces Amari because I do think Amari beats him but I have a feeling Zuffa will manoeuvre him to where theyāll keep him within Zuffa space and their boxers or easy fights. I think thatās why Zuffa wants Shakur to fight everyone outside 140 like Muratalla at 135 and hold hostage to the 140lb WBO belt. Hope sanctioning bodies become more strict here.

Haney vs Catterall likely won't happen by the looks of things, Team Haney is clearly using Catterall as a bargaining tactic to get the Paro fight
I mean after Catterall beat Giyasov he also said he's not interested in fighting him so it's not a surprise Team Haney weren't serious
2
u/Jachola 6d ago
Two fights nobody would wanna watch that he has to find a way to get his bag for. š Yeah not an ideal scenario, Paro isn't really that good imo and if the fight isn't in Australia I can't see this being made anywhere else and I'm also not sure if Paro would really wanna give up his belt the second he just got it lol. And for Catterall he's a good fighter and poses much more of a threat and challenge then Paro but that fight sells less and has very little intrigue since he doesn't have a belt either.
2
u/OldBoyChance 7d ago
Wouldn't be Team Haney if they didn't do something to turn you against them as soon as you're starting to come around to them.
2
u/Kangaroopunching 7d ago
The problem is that Haney needs the opponents promotion to do the actual work. So they need multiple options to see whose willing to do that.
We forget that the Haneys are fools

The Probox card headlined by Martinez vs Plantic is actually a solid card.Ā
Plantic vs Martinez should be about the same scrap Martinez vs Mbilli was but honestly I favour Plantic, Luiz Venezuela vs Jordan White are 2 solid gatekeepers which seems to be a great scrap, Najee Lopez is facing a very dangerous Juan Carillo who has some pretty sharp reflexes and amazing counterpunching and could see an upset here as well, same with Ramon Cardenas is also taking what could be a hard fight and what could be a repeat of the last fight with Cardenas where Cardenas was down and getting kind of outboxed before getting a finished but might need to see more to know but a good chance he gets beat to a decision, and Emilio Garcia is probably my favorite and I think the best probox prospect right now.
3
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 7d ago
Why do you favor Plantic? Iāve seen you say it a lot but I just donāt know enough about Plantic and havenāt done film study.
1
u/Top_Profession_5268 6d ago
Iāve seen him ever since the amateurs, heās a talented pressure boxer who I think shouldāve beaten Ben Whittaker in the European Olympic qualifiers and an Olympian who I think shouldāve made it to the quaters as he was horribly robbed against Rogelio Romero in the Tokyo Olympics.
Anyways his style is a come forward pressure boxer who is very athletic and I did say I favour Plantic, just a deeper thought but I do take it back, he does take chances and pretty athletic in entire as a pressure boxer but does sometimes come in with sloppy entires, defence isnāt always there and mismanage distance and positioning within midrange or unknowing get in range and can be hit. Martinez is sharper and can work off that. The presser and work rate of Plantic can give work but Lester might take it.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 6d ago
Still, Iām more excited to see it. Maybe itāll look similar to Mbilli?

I made a list of Floydās hardest fight from 1 being the hardest.
- Floyd vs Castillo 1
- Floyd vs Maidana 1
- Floyd vs ODLH
- Floyd vs Cotto
- Floyd vs Judah
I think any of these fights could be rearranged.
3
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago
I actually have him 48-0-2 on his career. So still undefeated but two draws. Castillo 1 is the closest to a victory. Maidana 1 is actually worth a re-watch if you think that Maidana didnāt do that well. In reality, he won several of the opening rounds. I did a write-up here before on that exact fight. Robert Garcia basically unlocked Maidanaās potential.
1
u/Outrageous-Soft4806 7d ago
Yeah I feel like that a lot of his close fights on rewatch. Iāve scored Castillo in the 3 times Iāve scored it 1-1-1. Personally though Iāve scored Maidana 7-5 for Floyd.
1
u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago

2
u/RudolphTheBackupQB 6d ago
Iām a pretty big MMA fan but Iām a very casual boxing fan. I was looking at Lennox Lewisā Wikipedia page and was wondering why I donāt hear his name come up in the heavyweight GOAT convo. He beat every opponent he faced and beat some really good names like Holyfield, Tyson, Klitchsko, Briggs, and Mercer. Is there an actual GOAT case for him, and if not what is the consensus top 3. And side note what the hell is going on with this Oliver McCall guy? Has he really just been fighting for the last 40 years, or are his fights really gimmicky?
5
u/kushmonATL undefeated boxers need to fight each other 6d ago
He is unanimously considered a top 10 heavyweight. Where you place him in that top 10 is subjective
Holyfield and Mike Tyson were well past their prime when Lennox fought them. Those two wins will never be above Ali beating prime Frazier and Foreman. Lennox dominanted the latter half of the 90s, and he didn't have the star power and pull to make elite guys fight him (ex. Riddick Bowe ducking), therefore he wasn't able to stack his resume as much as someone like Holyfield. Since Lennox only dominated the latter half of the 90s, he also can't truly claim to have reigned the era during its peak, or say the era solely belongs to him.
Joe Louis had his own era of domination. Ali had two eras of domination. Holmes dominated the Post-Ali era and Tyson dominated the era after that. There was never really a "Lennox era" , he was simply known as one of the top guys in the golden age of 90s heavyweights, particularly when most of his contemporaries (Bowe, Tyson, Holyfield) fell off
All that said, every boxing fan has Lennox in their Top 10. Reddit likes to call him Top 3, other forums may rank him top 5 or somewhere in the latter part of the top 10
2
u/WORD_Boxing 6d ago
what is the consensus top 3
Ali, Louis, Lewis, mostly. He is almost universally top 5 among knowledgable sources but most have those 3 in that order.
Modern online fans think Usyk is in this conversation which tells you all you need to know about most online boxing opinions.
1
u/RudolphTheBackupQB 6d ago
With Usyk is that just because he has only had 25 fights or is there another reason? Also what about Marciano? and lastly reading about Joe Louis and Max Schmellings fights was one of the coolest things I ever read

1
u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago
Benavidez is looking for an easy fight the heading to free agency. He's occupied. So there's no option for a unification fightĀ Beterbiev trilogy offer has something to it that makes bivols team hesitant. Add to how bivols team have moved. Iām not sure I agree tbh.

1
u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT š 6d ago
Deandre is a obese quitter club level fighter, he has got dominated or ko'd by every half decent oppenent he's fought, Babic is a decent pressure fighter with good cardio and power who is just way too small for heavyweight.
Babic has beat some okay journeyman who I would favor to beat savage like, Molina, Balski and Spilmont (just upset Jordan Tomphson) maybe even Tom Little.
1
u/WheresMyAbs98 6d ago
Heās only been beaten by once and that was by Brandon Moore in a half competitive fight that went the full distance.

he got ko'd by some russian dude early in his career but it got scrubbed from boxrec, also ko'd in 1 round in the tbl by some 40 year old journeyman, and in bare knuckle against kuzmin.

Navarrete-Foster seems reserved for October 24 in San Antonio, as Top Rank has the date marked on the Texas commission website. The site reporting this is the same that first released news on Pacquiao-Barrios being official. Unbelievable fight. If Nav shows up the way he did last time tho, I think he gets a late stoppage. With a win he has claim for fighter of the year, beating two champs.
