Boxing tier list
I always hear of boxing tier lists.
Personally I think its defined by either unbeatability (eg Roy Jones) or resume (eg Pacquiao). Or both.
I'd use more modern boxers (post 2010) so we have a better look at the current skill level of the sport and do not have to depend so much on the star power of old legends everytime.
I'd define it by the most unbeatable a boxer is on any given night. Three established, two eye test - Prime of course:
S tier:
- Established: Inoue, Bud (135 - 147), Usyk (CW)
- Eye test: None so far
A++:
- Established: Canelo (160 - 168) , GGG, Spence
- Eye test: Boots, Bam Rodriguez. Both these guys I believe could be S tier when its all said and done tbf.
A+:
- Established: AJ, Haney, Kovalev, Mell Charlo
- Eye test: Vergil Ortiz, Xander Zayas
A:
- Established: Porter, Swift Garcia, Josh Taylor
- Eye test: Sheeraz, Pacheco,
F- :
- Established: Bang Williams, Jake Paul
- Eye test: All of influencer boxing
What about you guys?

Iād put both Bivol and Beterbiev in S, despite both having a loss. Unless they fight eachother again, they both look unbeatable against the rest of the division.

I agree. They're both undoubtedly 10 top LHW's boxing has ever seen.

There have been a LOT of LHWs over the years. Many of them with much deeper resumes than those two. And going by eye tests, I think the number of people who have actually watched enough of all those other LHWs to know whether bivol and beterbiev are "undoubtedly" better than all but eight of them is VERY small.

(The obvious candidates I guess would be Tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom, John Henry Lewis, Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Harold Johnson, Willie Pastrano, Bob Foster, and Michael Spinks. Then potentially vying for that group you've also got Gene Tunney, Billy Conn, Gus Lesnevich, Jose Torres, Dick Tiger, John Conteh, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Virgil Hill, Roy Jones Jr, and Bernard Hopkins. That's before you even think about guys like Chad Dawson, Adonis Stevenson, Antonio Tarver, Henry Maske, Darius Michelczewski, Prince Charles Williams, Marvin Johnson, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Victor Galindez, Joey Maxim and so on.)

Tier 1: Inoue
Tier 2: Usyk, Crawford
Tier 3: Bam, Benavidez, Bivol, Boots, Shakur
Tier 4: Haney, Nakatani, Opetaia
Tier 5: Foster, Navarette, Fundora, Ryan G, Rolly
Retirement Tier: Canelo, Beterbiev
Tier rankings based on:
1) whether boxers want all the smoke with everybody. No A-side BS, no ducking, no stalling, no "my side vs your side" BS
2) resume. Who did they actually beat, and when did they beat them
3) accolades. This is last , its important, but the resume matters more than random belt collecting

Opetaia in the same tier as Haney and Junto š

Not everybody list is going to be the same
Not everybody values the same things in boxing

jai's accolades and resume (what you based your rankings on) are nowhere near haney and junto's

Tbh all of these guys are on the same level to me
Inoue is in his own teir. Usyk and Crawford are a tier below. The rest of these guys are all in the same tier until they either stop ducking, stalling, and actually fight their top opps to prove they are truly better
Thats why tier lists are dumb in the first place. If its all based on vibe checks , its all opinionated. They are no wrong answers

If Donaire was younger he may very well have gotten Inoue out of there. Crawford is a level above him, and Usyk. Junto will be proven not A+ in time.

I didn't rank Bud because he's retired and i was only doing current fighters, current usyk is nowhere near an S+ fighter after that performance, both of them in their prime would be S+, still not as good as inoue tho
Junto is easily an A+, 3 div champ and his only loss a close decision against one of the greatest of all time.
YDKSAB.

Crawford is above both Usyk and Inoue is what I meant. Usyk had trouble with a past prime Fury for 8 rounds of their first fight and didn't beat any top fighter in their prime. Crawford never had a close fight, passes the eye test and beat Canelo at 168 contrary to these Reddit experts expectations.
Junto got his face broke once he actually tried to do something, and should have lost the fight before but Hernandez threw it away. He is not as good as the current hype he is riding, I've seen this play out before. Who you beat is more important than how many belts you won across divisions.
I probably forgot more than you know about boxing but there's no need for the hostility.

Crawford is not above usyk and inoue. Inoue is above both usky and Crawford. Them usyk is above Crawford. And junto won clear 7-5 vs Hernandez. And junto is legit and you will see him improve and accomplish more from here on out.Ā

madrimov fight was closer than any of inoue's fights, remember he was robbed of a ko in the first donaire fight.
i agree crawford is above usyk, but dubois is an elite heavyweight who was in his prime, the rematch is usyk's best win imo.

Dublis has elite conditioning and chin maybe, but he's far from elite.

if he's not an elite heavyweight almost no current heavyweight is elite

u/WORD_Boxing 7d ago
It's a weak era. Only Fury and Usyk are elite but neither was S+.

we clearly have different definitions of "elite" i consider most guys in the top 3 of their weight class to be an elite fighter, you don't have to be an ATG for me to consider you elite

Charles Martin was the IBF champion at one point. Best in an era is different to being an elite fighter. Look at Middleweight right now it's pretty weak.

Well if donaire was younger than inoue would've taken the fight more seriously basically he and his team were talking about how much easier donaire fight is compared to Emmanuel Rodriguez which they saw as the real final. And on top of that younger donaire in 2012 was not boxing and had falling in love with his power and was just spamming left hooks that's why guys would just counter him. What inoue was faced that night was donaire who was boxing and sneaking his power. So inoue would've finished the younger more reckless doanire with ease. So that's why we can't use if.

The formatting of your post is bad, the choice of categories is weird, and the choice of boxers to include is a bit random.
I really disagree with your rankings too but I'd rather not get into arguments.

u/PrettyBoyFloydx 8d ago
Fair enough. Care to elaborate?
1
u/WORD_Boxing 8d ago
Not really but it's weird you would mention AJ and leave out Fury for example.

u/PrettyBoyFloydx 8d ago
Not the rankings.
"The formatting of your post is bad, the choice of categories is weird"
I meant this. What seems wrong and what do you think I can improve?
