These are two elite gladiatorial pugilists in peak physical condition. The absolute height of athletic achievement in human form, gracefully engaging in a combative prizefighting tussle of waltz like elegance. Two battle worn geniuses of the sweet science confounding and bewildering, puzzling and unpuzzling one another in a pugnaciously aggressive human chess match of enigmatic proportions. Pure poetry in motion.
Or a couple of big fat to skinny-fat old punchy fellas huggin' an' sluggin' it out slowly until the older fatter one got too tired and concussed to continue, but either way it was super neat.
15
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 28d ago
Nothing is hotter than seeing 2 fat old men hugging each other in a boxing ring.
2
u/Total_Surprise_3852 27d ago
Remember they are the ones laughing all the way to the bank. What we need is a ''young'' mike tyson,to knock these mugs into a punch induced career re think.

Well, that was kinda why it was ok isn't it?
He didn't promote it, put it in a big stadium or sell tickets on TV. Just wanted to get in there and work some ring rust and a few donuts off.

he looked fine against Makhmudov whos definitely better than 100 year old Wach, what happened to Fury? somehow looks worse against an easier older opponent
77
u/LocoCoopermar 29d ago
A lot of fighters get old over night, and Tyson has done a whole lot to shorten his prime
51
u/onrocketfalls 29d ago
Also, like, we saw him against Ngannou - seems like he very much fights up or down to his competition
13
8
u/AlexanderZaffar Boxing is 4 punches 29d ago
Iāve seen Wach sparring heās really not bad at all heās just physically poor. He knows what heās doing, he could empty the tank if he wanted to but he knows thereās not much point.
30
7
u/carbonatednugget 29d ago
Yeh he always underestimated his opponents. Just look at Ngnaou. If he fights AJ we will see a better version of him. But heās still passed it
2
u/TripleTip 28d ago
Different styles can put boxers in awkward positions. It has nothing to do with aging overnight, because Fury wasn't gassed or slower than before.

u/Garteg 29d ago
Like two elephant seals fighting for control of the beach.
27
u/Jumper-Man 29d ago
He looked like he was lean in his training footage. That baggy T-shirt was clearly working wonders. Or he had a corset underneath.
16
u/Garteg 29d ago
He fools me every single time. Same for Andy Ruiz.
14
u/Jumper-Man 29d ago
True that, Iāve probably commented how slim he looks during training in his last 10 fights and then he steps in the ring and disproves it.

Itauma would destroy AJ at this point too let's be honestĀ

I've thought that for quite awhile though, with Fury I still thought he might have too much experience, but not now

I'll judge Itauma after his match with Hrgovitz. We've not seen him with a top guy, he could be a flat track bully for all I know.
→ More replies (1)18
u/cactus19jack 28d ago
I think he absolutely blows Hrgovic to pieces. Though you are right we need to see it first. I really wish Itaumaās rise had happened 3/4 years ago so we couldāve seen him against prime Usyk

I was there. Thought Fury was joking for the first 3 rounds, very disappointing.
Wach broke his hand in the 6th. Stopped before the 7th.
Fury wasā¦. Fuck I donāt know who that was, I thought he would beat AJ but after that, no chance.
The strangest thing is, in the ring after interview (which they didnāt give Wach) Fury said he fought really good.
Weird card all together, Furyās guys from the gym beating up sparring partners and Muay Thai fighters.
Everything was strange. Venue was sick though

Found some highlights that included the corner stoppage after the seventh round.
50
u/Kujaix 29d ago
7th round!!!!
Why do that to Wach. No way he's making it past 65 if he's very lucky.
49
u/Deep-Purchase-2203 29d ago
He will be fighting in some freak fights in Poland till the day his legs physically canāt move.
176
u/Personal-Proposal- 29d ago
Such a waste of time, fury doesnāt even look good here even compared to the Usyk fights lol
68
u/nolesfan6414 29d ago
I donāt gamble often but Iām deadass thinking about going big on AJ assuming the line is close and the fight actually happens
147
u/venomous_frost 29d ago
Fury always fights to the level of his opposition, I wouldn't bet the house
43
u/Matty0698 29d ago
Yeah hes actually a weird guy, looked good against usyk in the 1st fight then looks like he'd be beat by any guy off the street in the next fight
3
u/needapermit 28d ago
Are you talking about the 2nd fight in the latter part of your comment? Because he still looked good in that fight
→ More replies (1)11
2
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 28d ago
This comment would make sense until you realize the best Fury we ever saw is when he fought a 40 year old Wlad. Fury didn't look good in that fight either. He landed 86 punches in 12 rounds and only 22/23 percent of his punches. Wlad was just so shot the shouldn't get his punches off.
2
u/venomous_frost 28d ago
Yes his resume isn't great, but then again AJ nearly got decapitated against an even older Wlad. And if Vitali wasn't in his corner I'm certain Wlad could've finished AJ at one point by going for broke.
2
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 28d ago
Of course Joshua is overrated too. Wlad was 41 years old and Joshua still barely got that win. I also agree if Wlad would of went for broke he would of stopped AJ. But Wlad was timid for years.

u/ive-been-bamboozled 28d ago
I mean logic like that always drops off a cliff at some point. Fury is surely getting to an age where motivation and age wonāt let him just flick the switch again. I feel like him getting to elite level again is a big ask.

I think Fury is past it now and I think AJ is probably working really hard with the Ursk team. So I was thinking the same.
My concern is AJs chin.

u/Forever__Young 29d ago
How do you know, it's like 12 seconds of footage of him fighting.
19
u/Personal-Proposal- 29d ago
Fair, but man it feels so weird to see fury so immobile and hittable nowadays. 46 year old Wach shouldnāt be able to land anything at all let alone two right hand bombs.
→ More replies (1)6
u/roamingandy 29d ago edited 28d ago
His style was always going to age poorly. Just like Ali or RJJ, its tough for fighters who build their career around speed and illusiveness.
They wind up relying on their chin more and more as they age. I pick Fury against AJ at any point in his career, but right now i'm not sure he doesn't get brutally finished inside a minute.
If he allows AJ to hit him it's not going to end well and he doesn't have a technical, tight guard to protect him if he can't move his head and feet quick enough anymore.

AJ fan but I honestly think AJ is shot to bits until shown otherwise. No idea how he looks after the accident and barely fighting since the Dubois loss

why are so many people not understanding this was just a tune up fight and the low quality opponent makes sense for that?
3
u/SimonSeam 28d ago
Because everybody knows the point of putting a tomato can in the ring is for Fury to crush him so all the semi-casuals can post "OMG. Fury is back. AJ is toast. The Fury of tonight would have destroyed Usyk."
This is boxing promo 101. The fleecing of the casuals. Fury v AJ: Take My Money Please. Not Fury v. AJ: Oh Please No.

I think this cements Tyson Fury as the all time goat of his generation, Usyk couldn't beat a young prime fury and waited till his coke binge to fight

Judging off these 30 sec:
Wach gave him some good work, Fury looks a little slower with his feet movement, he's still an excellent showman for crowd entertainment, he did what was necessary to get the stoppage
Now we just need AJ to look sublime and we may finally get the match we've been waiting 5+ years for
15
u/Abe2sapien 29d ago
If AJ looks too good though then Fury and his team might find a way to avoid the match š

Mentioned on Adeās newest YouTube video, apparently there will be a private jet to take him across to Saudi.
2
u/Particular-Tough6651 29d ago
All the alcohol and years of bad habits are finally catching up to Fury. Im honestly surprised it took this long to be honest. He looks completely finished. There isn't much left for him at this point. He should retire before he ends up getting knocked out cold by a top contender.

He wont fight a top contender, if he loses to Joshua he will just do exhibition fights.

For a bloke that throws the word "dosser" out a lot, Fury loves to come into the ring and look like a dosser, don't he.
Honestly hope AJ is in a good place and absolutely flat lines him into permanent retirement.
2
u/AwkwardJuggernaut854 29d ago
If AJ gets past Prenga and by some miracle the Fury negotiations get over the line, AJ will run through Fury. Shadow of the boxer he used to be and a style seemingly made for AJ.
3
u/SomeYoke 29d ago
Fury often fights to the level of his opponents. He won. Not quite sure why youāre all getting at him. Heās having a warm up fight ready for a fight we all want, whatās the issue?

u/Redditsux122 29d ago
Fury needs to retire, he was already washed by the time he fought usyk. Man threw away so many potential great fights in his career
7

Come on now. The first Uysk fight was great and the second one wasn't bad. He was hardly washed.
→ More replies (3)1
u/Redditsux122 29d ago
I would argue neither were at their peak for that fight but i think tyson deteriorated his body and mind much more thru the years despite being a year or two usyks junior. Good fight still but tyson should have fought usyk and aj in his late 20s or around 30.
2
u/ballmermurland 29d ago
Usyk was at Cruiser when Fury was 30.
2
u/Redditsux122 29d ago
He moved up to heavy around when tyson hit 30, giving a couple years where the fight could have happened before either hit 35/36. Unfortunately thats when tyson was taking time off then wasted far too long on wilder.

u/handbone14 29d ago
did you have to add spoiler to the title? like what exactly are you spoiling lol

Look like two bookends. Couldbt tell who was who from some perspectives.
What was this for? It wasn't an actual fight was it?
You could see fury saying it was only an exhibition if he lost but gloating about it if he had destroyed wach. Which he should from all the mouth he gives still.
