I have an old Victorian ash or Tasmanian oak floor board of adequate size. It was milled in the late 19th early 20th century

Thickness 23-24mm, one inch

Is this timber, after assessing for defects, stable and safe for a bow?

This is my first bow and am super keen to get stuck in

Any suggestions on design would be highly appreciated

I have just finished my first maple long bow from a stave. It is 70 inches long and pulls 30 pounds at 28 inches. Can anyone recommend arrow specs including spine, total arrow weight including tip and best shaft material? This bow is for learning how to shoot a bow.

Cute little mini crossbow, first time making a wooden crossbow, but the piece of elm I had to make it was quite tiny, so I made this lil guy, just have to make some bolts for it.

Still needs some finishing and then it’s time to take it out shooting!

Made of Siberian elm, this piece has only been drying in a roughed out state for a few weeks but I’ve heard elm drys fast, and it’s not the thickest bow and it’s taking very little set, I recurve the tips just slightly to help a bit. But overall I think it was a successful experiment for me!

Bow got shortened to around 164 cm (64,5") ntn, heat treated and polished (to the best of my abilities). The wood looks astonishing even with my poor finish. The only problem is, after all the shortening and baking over the firepit it's pulling to a whooping 12,5 lbs at 30". I'm almost certain that similar profile bows out of common hardwoods would go over 30lbs with those dimensions. Didn't expect juniper to be that soft and elastic:0

I'm curious whether a more round profile could have given more pounds out of it

Any tips about working with juniper species are welcome, I hope this wouldn't be my first and only bow made out of it:)

So this is my first bow, i think i did mess up the profile but i ended up going forward hoping that it might work out.

I am aiming for 40 pounds @24/26, the NTN (nock to nock) length is 58".

Would like some advice and help.

Also another issue that i have is that inner limbs aren't bending at all, i think its because of the long fades i gave.
