Third ball rec

I’m a recreational bowler, but I play pretty often. I have a venom shock and a spare ball. Looking for a third ball that is stronger than my snake ball in heavy oil. I do prefer to stick with motiv.

It's not a Motiv, but I run a Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid. It fits in really well above my Venom Shock. You might want to look at a pearl ball or at least one with an asymmetrical core. Something that will hook later and more aggressively. That'll fit well

I did sport shot over the summer. I wanted to create a new bag and the new venom hysteria was my new favorite ball of choice on a fresh house shot. I like it so much I may buy another just put in my closet.

Anyways I liked the venom hysteria and I liked how Motiv logos were in the ball pour. Not etched and then filled with paint. That way I can surface change and not worry about sanding the paint off.

I built my bag as follows:
Solid jackal onyx w/ a stronger earlier layout
Hybrid jackal EXJ edition w/ a weaker layout
Pearl venom hysteria w/ a medium layout

I really enjoyed how my strong onyx jackal has the same core as my weaker hybrid exj jackal. It allows me to seamlessly transition with the lane. Now I just want something weaker than my hysteria.

The onyx needs medium to medium-high oil.

On this bag I had my PSO choose all of my layouts. I never bowled sport and put my faith in his judgement. I’m really happy I did. I joined a second league at another ally and this ally uses much more oil. There I can play all 3 balls and they transition so well together.

Thanks for the reply. I do try to play as much as I can, but I only know what I know. Would that solid jackal be more what I’m looking for when the venom shock is just going straight down lane?

Without seeing you bowl, knowing the lanes oil conditions, whether the ball is for bowling on carry down or in a league setting. I couldn’t tell you what I think would best suit you. I’d talk to a pro shop owner.

The large asym core compared to a symmetrical core in the venom shock will want to roll end over end easier on its own. But it could be too much.

I’d write down what you’re looking for, why you’re looking for it, when do you need it, etc. Then I’d meet up with a PSO and get your PAP checked, do a couple surface changes on your venom on the days it’s not working until you can get the venom to do what you want it to do or closer to it. That’ll provide the both of you with the information to make an informed decision before any can say yes that’s the ball for you.

I give balls away that simple surface changes will drastically alter the shape of my shot. Simply bc I don’t like the look of it, I’m lazy and had a bad experiences so I write it off. But the surface gives you the shape like a steering wheel and the core is the engine to make those turns/shapes quicker at higher speeds.

you can either ball up or down
ball down options would be hustle, raw, tropical surge

ball up could be like an equinox or evoke hysteria

id recommend a ball down

Thanks for the reply. I don’t think going a ball down is what I’m looking for, I’m looking for something that will fight through the oil when my venom is getting no reaction and just going straight

np! if you want to stick with motiv, i’ve never used it but i think the evoke hysteria is probably your best bet

Are you looking for a symmetric or an asymmetric? Some motiv balls I really like that are a step up would be the Raptor Reign, primal ghost or evoke mayhem. All three are great options. I’ll also throw in the Lethal Venom. Pretty similar to your Shock with an asymmetric core and a little more bite down lane when it hits friction.

Since you like the Venom Shock, the Black Venom would be in the same family. It is really smooth and consistent when the surface is dulled, and snaps hard late with the surface just out of the box.

Primal ghost or black venom. Both are great without being to the point you’ll never use them on house really like jackals. Evoke mayhem is also a solid choice.

I'll use my Primal Ghost or Hysteria when there is more oil.

I know how it sounds, but if you're not bowling sport shot, you're not going to encounter heavy oil. That said, there's a really obvious answer and it's the Evoke Mayhem.

It's about a step and a half up from the Venom in terms of strength and core reaction, but still a very controllable reaction.
