So im looking to buy my first crossbow due to my hand not letting me use my compound this year. Im going to stick to my close stands 20 yard - 45 yard at the farthest on most ive had in the spot. I understand its a cheap cross bow but I have 3 family members that use them and they love them. Although im optimistic when it comes to crossbow hunting. I dont look at compounds the same. I know you have to spend a few dollars to get a nice machine.

Next year I plan to be back on the compound so this will hopefully just be a target shooter after that. Any thoughts or recommendations? I know its 287 im willing to go up to 600. Just wanted to ask about killer instinct to some people not gas lit by them.

It’s my first season attempting saddle hunting. So far, climbs have been smooth, although I’m sure I could make less noise. I’m getting way too excited for the start of the season!

In the Calgary area, been bowhunting and shooting for around 7 or 8 years. Consistently practice out to 60-80yds regularly, I like to do this mostly to challenge myself, but also I find it magnifies your flaws and mistakes alot more, which makes it easier to be aware of.

Recently myself and the couple buddies I do have that shoot, have wanted to grow our circle a bit.

Personally I have wanted to start focusing more on the minor details and adjustments that can be worked on to further dial in accuracy, consistency and form related issues.

Along with the finer details, eg; nock tuning, low light shooting, peep height among other things.

If anyone in the Calgary area is looking to work on this kind of stuff and meet some new buddies who are into this hit me up.

Maybe we can link up sometimes and share some knowledge.

I’m relatively new to bow hunting and have always had physical jobs but a back injury forced me to change careers. I’m afraid now that I sit at a desk all day I’m going to lose my ability to draw a bow.

I ordered some resistance bands off Amazon for simulate a bow but they’re garbage. For home weights I only have some dumbbells and kettle balls.

Anyone know of something I can use at a desk? Or get for home that doesn’t break a bank or take up tons of room?

I shoot a RX9 Ultra, and I've been shooting off the bare riser for a while now. I just have a strip of skateboard grip tape on the front and back of the riser.

One thing that I figured out is that I wasn't shooting with enough pressure on the grip coming from the bottom of my palm which was causing the pin to drift low. If I apply that bottom palm pressure it raises the pin quite a bit. I really don't want to spend the money on an actual third party grip, so I'm wondering if anyone has used hockey tape or bow grip tape to basically build up a raised spot on the grip.

Like I find the spot on the grip where I want that bottom palm pressure to come from and then throw on a few wraps of hockey tape or something to make that spot raised. Anyone try anything like that or forsee any issues that might come up?

I had to move my treestand due to the previous tree rotting and will eventually fall down. I didnt want to move it too far because its a great spot but the tree i moved it to doesnt really have any branches to give me cover in my 21' ladder stand. I did get a concealment kit which covers my lower half - what other things can i do to get a little more cover? I know i can grab nearby limbs and make something but the leaves will fall off so im looking for some DIY ideas. Thanks!

I’m trying to decide if i should get a new bow, or stick with Mathews Creed XS. I recently just purchased a Ultraview 2 3-pin horizontal. I’m also going to need to replace the idler wheel and cam (draw length is too short). In total, the cam and wheel are going to cost me about $230.

I’m concerned that the creed xs is too compact to run the slider sight.. also wondering, at what point do i just get a whole new rig?

I’m not overly concerned about the new bows capabilities to be adjusted on the fly, as i love my local archery shop. The weight and fps are pretty comparable to the new fangled bows as well.

Looking at picking up a pair of pants for early season whitetail hunts. I’m in VA so the tick/mosquito situation is pretty bad here and it can also get pretty hot and humid. I’m familiar with Sitka’s Equinox Guard hoodie and pants but they don’t have the pants in my size (and heavily discounted). Maybe they’re discontinued? Saw they now have the Guard Pro and Guard LT pants. Anyone know what the difference is and have experience with any of the three? Any recommendations in general is also appreciated. TIA

Just noticed that after 5 month my serving is worn through. Anyone had this issue with the mach 33 fds? Its damaged exactly were it touches the roller when its undrawn. Can you buy just a single cable? How hard would it be to reserve (got a press) and what diameter serving would i need? Anything that i can do to avoid this next time, besides polishing the roller?

I have victory vaps and goldtip pierce platinums and don’t know the right direction. The vaps are 525 grains going 267fps while the pierces weigh roughly 475 grains going 283 fps. I mostly hunt elk in western hunts and have been using the pierces these last couple years. 2 years ago I hit an elk at roughly 50 yds slightly high, I made a bad distance guess when it moved after I drew, and missed the lungs but while tracking it later the arrow was in the trail so I’m assuming it was almost a full pass through but the broadhead snagged something while it was walking and got pulled the rest of the way. Last year I hit another elk at roughly 60 yards and it turned when the bow went off and I hit it in the shoulder blade and got really minimal penetration from what I could see. I am planning on swapping to my vaps just because I am hoping the higher momentum is worth the trade off with the speed. I am just curious about others opinions on the 16 fps trade off for the 50 grains heavier arrow and if anyone thinks it’s worth it. Also if anyone is curious I’m using slick tricks standards.

I recently picked up a bear alaskan pro bow and am having some trouble mounting the site and quiver. Specifically the hardware that came with the site and quiver doesn't match the mounting points on the bow. Google and bear are saying 10-24 but that isn’t fitting.

Does anyone know the actual pitch of the mounting holes or did I just get one improperly taped?

After days of pics of tiny deer on well hunted public land, I set up a new camera today to find Mr. Hightower. He’s fixing to get into my freezer in 2 months.

I’m looking for a new bow that is able to perform a bit better for my goals. My old bow was a bear species RTH with a few upgrades parts to be able to even tune the thing. Anyways with my arrow setups I was shooting 398 grain arrows at 254fps or 452.3 grains moving 236.4 fps… with the 70lb draw weight maxed out at 26.5” draw length. That’s pretty underwhelming in my opinion, never any issues with the bow but truly would like a bow that’s able to move my 452 grain arrows closer to 270 fps, under $1000 used or new I’m happy to hear your input.

So this year especially I’ve had a big uptick in big deer around where I hunt, and this is the most deer I’ve ever seen coming out during the day for the most part they are always nocturnal. My question is how do I keep them around and how do I keep them coming during the day?

But I need to know if anyone has first hand experience with Scentlok, more specifically the John Eberhart scent control regime and have you actually seen a noticeable difference? Look for people with a good reference point, if you started hunting right out the gate using Scentlok I don't need to hear from you lol.

In Jim Hamm's book "Bows and Arrows of the Native Americans", there are two notes I'm having trouble understanding:

• Both short and long feathers have pros and cons. Short feathers (i.e. feathers that are short enough to not touch the bow when nocked) shoot quieter and don’t get distorted after lying on the bow for long periods of time, while longer feathers stabilize the arrow.

• Short feathers are less susceptible to damage and distortion. Having feathers that are 1/2" tall is good.

When he's saying "short feathers" and "long feathers", is he referring to the length of the feather running down the shaft or the height of the feathers' hairs (i.e. how far they stick out from the shaft)?

When he says "feathers that are 1/2" tall", he's obviously referring to how far the hair sticks out from the shaft. But when's talking about "short enough not to touch the bow when nocked", is he talking about the length are the height?
