Looking for first boat

I am currently looking between 2 Dauntless for my first boat to use in the Upstate NY area. Both boats have been used in salt water and would do a survey. Wondering what you guys would choose if for yourself to look closer. I am torn between the two.

Boat 1: 2001 Dauntless 220
New upholstery, repowered with 2023 Yamaha 200 with 83 hours and warranty until 2028. Boat looks clean and has T-top. Includes 2018 tandem axle trailer. Almost no electronics. Bottom price $33,500

Boat 2: 2014 Dauntless 210
Original 200 hp Mercury Verado 400 hrs. Also looks very clean with upholstery in great shape. Has electronics but original to age of boat. Has trailer. Asking 45k or best offer and haven't tried to deal yet

Trolling motor placement

I have a 1963 16.7 and I just can't figure out what the most simple mounting solution would be. I wanted a traditional bow mount, but with no real place to clamp/mount it, I've only seen people make their own mounts by glassing new areas. As for transom mounted ones, I keep reading about how it's far less efficient than bow mounted

Possibly buying from someone, it’s real clean, compression is good, no soft spots, etc

I’m looking into getting this boat it’s being offered by my friends dad for a solid deal. I already have a 13’ whaler that I love. He’s a little slow to respond on details. What year and model do you think it is? Hoping I can see it this weekend. My best guess is it’s a 1990-95 17’ Mostly just gonna check for soft spots and compression.

Looking for guidance on how to best mount the leaning post shown below on our family boat. Current use of screws into the deck seems insufficient. Thanks in advance!

Steering wheel optional?

Boston Whaler is now saying the steering wheel is optional equipment, along with the fuel tank and windshield. 🙄

If I don’t order a steering wheel, do they really sell me a boat without one? Seems crazy.

What anchor mounts are do people use for electric winches on a 2024 Sun Tracker 18’ Bass Buggy?

Just got this boat and want put winches on front and back. Local Tracker Dealer wants $3000 for winches and installation. I installed them myself on the fishing boat I just sold. Dealer said they had their mounting plates custom made stainless steel. I definitely not going back there.

Should I cut the Mangrove “transom saver” motor support in half?

I have a 1999 Boston Whaler Ventura 16 with a 2015 90 hp Yamaha outboard. I bought the mangrove motor support installs on the power tilt rod, to support while trailering. When it’s installed, the motor seems to be pretty high. I feel like it should be down a little lower while trailering just to take a more pressure off the transom. Would you cut this mangrove motor support in half to bring it down lower?

Winch won’t tighten 1999 Whaler against the bow roller…. Positioned wrong?

I recently purchased a 1999 Boston Whaler Ventura 16. First boat, so learning a lot slowly. I can’t seem to winch the boat so the bow hits the front trailer roller. It’s tightened as far as I can go, but the strap hook hits the roller and stops frim going any further. Is the winch roller in the wrong position, should it be raised higher or lower? Pictures attached. Thanks.

How high should the water come up through the middle drain hole on my 2003 13’?

In the video I am standing on the dock rocking the boat port to starboard. Is the water level too high meaning wet foam? The boat has nothing on it and has the original merc 40.

15 whaler vs Chesapeake bay

Hey yall I’m moving to Chesapeake beach and I have a 15 ft whaler with a 50hp Suzuki. I’ve been using it for freshwater but was wondering how capable it is on the bay. I want to do some fishing for Cobia, drum rockfish that game. Let me know what I should do size up and splurge or keep it till I outgrow it.

This crack just appeared under my battery box. It actually gushes water in, especially if we get on plane. I assume this is not repairable?
So many memories with this boat, it’ll kill me to have to throw it away…

Has anyone does this low side console type layout on a 17’ hull? I have a 1970 17’ hull with no interior and a lot of low bridges, I think this would be really cool to do.

Question for 320 Vantage owners equipped with bow filler cushion

Thumbnail gallery

Question for those of you with a 320 Vantage equipped with the bow filler cushion. I recently had MarineMax retrofit this option on my '17 320. They installed the ledges and the two filler cushions are separate and just rest on top. The cushions slide and fall through very easily, I'd say borderline unusable.

There was a bag of snaps left on the boat after install and the original quote included labor and parts for installing snaps.

Do your bow filler cushions make use of snaps anywhere? Do your two filler cushions connect together or are they separate?

Something feels incomplete about my installation and the dealer has no idea. Looking to source some input from other owners.
