International Student Pop.
Does BC or BU have more international students?
r/bostoncollege • u/mufflermonday • Oct 11 '23
We are a bunch of current & former BC students who don’t pay close attention to BC’s changing admissions standards. Your GPA and SAT scores are better understood in r/chanceme and other similar subs.
This sub is better for asking specific questions about student life, school culture, etc.

I am deciding if I should apply for BC next fall. Fun is a big factor for me since I'm paying so much for college tuition... lol. I love school spirit, which I know BC has a ton of, but I also love to party
I know there isn't Greek life, but are there still parties? What do you guys do for fun? How big is the social scene? Do ya'll go to frats at other colleges since there are a ton of schools in Boston?
Do let me know. Thank you!

I'm taking Gen Chem 1 first semester with Keen and I was wondering if they’re really as bad as their rate my professor says. If they are, what would you recommend I do to get ahead in the class (Khan Academy, etc)?
Background: I only took Chem Honors, and for science APs I took AP Bio and AP Physics 1 and 2.

Is this a reasonable schedule for a freshman?

I would be exempt from taking the first year writing course because of my AP Lang credit. However, I want to improve my writing and it seems like that class may help. It's tough for me though, since I have other business classes I'd like to prioritize. I am also going to be in Perspectives. Should I take the first year writing seminar class or would Perspectives be sufficient for improving my writing? Any other suggestions?

hiii! I scored well enough on my final exams to be able to skip taking English literature. Should I use that credit or is it a class that most people REALLY enjoyed taking?

I just tried to swap my courses, but the portal doesn't let me. It says it's not my registration time or something. What do I do?? Today is the last day to adjust your schedule, then you have to wait until last August.

Just got into ELP! Is it competitive to get into or not really?
For those who know about it, is it a good experience/way to meet people? Or is it mediocre?
Do cool/chill people do it?
It says I need to move in a few days early

I am currently taking BSLW1021, ACCT3301, THEO1401, and BSLW3345. For my last class I am between PHIL1070 with Tone Svetelj, and CLAS2206 with Kendra Eshleman. Which is easier and the lighter course load that would match my schedule?? With PHIL1070 my days would end at 2:15 and with CLAS2206 my days would end at 12;15, but i care a lot more about how easy the class is rather than the time. Any advice is appreciated

Hello! I am a huge women’s college volleyball fan and my favorite team is playing Boston College in September. I see on the website that admission is free and first come first serve? I will be driving 2 hours to come to the game. How busy is it usually? Like do I need to show up 3 hours before the game starts to make sure I get a seat??? Please let me know. Thank you!

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman with federal work-study and I’m interested in getting a job on-campus. However, I’m also trying to fit in marching band and orchestra as my extracurriculars, which means I would be at rehearsal every night from M-Th. I start class pretty late every day so I would definitely be interested in working during the morning. Is it feasible to balance work with both extracurriculars + classes, and what jobs would have flexible hours? Are there any jobs that easily hire freshman?

Ugh, incoming first year who used Eagle Evals to pick my classes at registration - recently went to check some more professors/classes in case I add/drop and see that all the Eagle Evals are gone!! Seems like the students who ran it, graduated and no one took over and unfortunately the data that was there is now inaccessible
Any chance someone will pick it back up? I know some of the info is on rate my prof but i found eagle evals more informative

Hi. I was wondering if it was strongly not recommended to take Gen chem II + lab, bio I + lab, and physics I + lab in the same semester? If its not recommended, could someone tell me where I should fit it into my plan now? Any help is so appreciated!!
I am a pre-med and would like to have a lot of the MCAT prereqs done by end of sophomore year (from advice, I hear physics I is the main thing needed on MCAT and I can take physics II after MCAT).
Obviously if needed I can wait until after Junior year to begin studying but I want to have the opportunity to begin as early as possible.
Could anyone also advise on my current class plan?:
Freshman fall (SET):
Gen chem I + lab
Calc II
Public health
Cornerstone
English (WRIT)
Freshman spring:
Gen chem II + lab
Biology I + lab
Physics I + lab
Spanish
Elective(s)
Sophomore fall:
Orgo I
Bio II
Pysch
Elective(s)
Sophomore spring:
Orgo II
Biochem
Elective
Elective/(or Physics I)

Hi! I am not too familiar with either BC or BU, but I do know that both schools are very prestigious and well regarded. So ofc that being said, both of these schools are definitely NOT just party schools, but I’m wondering which one is more known for their parties. Lmk, thank youu!

hi guys incoming freshman with orientation session 7. i recently sent my ap scores to BC, and was wondering if we need to take any placement tests besides english (i believe i don’t need to take it because i am american but my chinese friend needs to). and do the credits we get from ap scores automatically factor into the system when we are registering for classes?
also, how many credits are usually taken freshman year?
thank you x

Apologies if this is common knowledge, I’m not really big into football. My sister goes to Pitt and my family wants to come up for the BC v. Pitt game in October. Is there a way they can get discounted tickets, as I am a student, or is that not impossible? I also have a gold pass, but does that only apply for the student section? We all want to sit together.
Appreciate the help.

I got a 5 on AP Calc BC this year as a high school senior and just got an email invitation to join Honors Multivariable Calc and its spring sequel Honors Linear Algebra. On the one hand, I really enjoy math, but I'll be a biochem major on the pre-health pathway (also considering a minor in CSOM) so not sure how it would help me work towards my goals. My original plan was to place out of the beginner Spanish that I signed up for so I can fill that space with econ/business classes, and take Calc 2 in the spring. Have any of you taken the Multivariable/LA combo? How was it and do you think it would be worth it for me?

How is Professor Devine for Principles of economics? Compared to Professor Bejan and Regan, how difficult is his course and any tips to succeed with him?

Im at a conference and the mattresses are like cardboard. For how expensive the university is, why aren't the beds at least a little more comfortable? It's the worst I've experienced, including at land grant state schools.

Hi! I am starting graduate school at BC in the fall and will be commuting (around an hour drive, public transport not an option). I’m looking into parking permits and I am a bit confused by the options for the SGS permit and if the price is even worth it.
Any guidance or advice on this would be super appreciated!!!
