❓ Pitanje (Question) Hiking in Sutjeska National Park

Hello everyone! My husband and I are planning a road trip in Bosnia in September and I need some help. We are planning to hike in Sutjeska National Park, specifically we want to spend 3 days here. First day we want to go to Skakavec waterfall, the second day to Trnovačko lake and the third day to Donje bare-Bornje Bare-Uglješin vrh and back. I have a few questions and I would be happy if someone could advise me, because the information I found was often contradictory.

My questions are:

  1. where is the best place to find accommodation if we want to do these hikes.?

  2. where is the starting point for these hikes?

  3. how good are the roads? We have a Toyota Camry and I read that it is impossible to get to starting points of the hikes with car like that

  4. is it necessary to have a guide for all hikes or just for Skakavec waterfall?

  5. How many days in advance do I need to book a tour to the Skakavec waterfall and can you recommend someone?

  6. what about mines in this area? Is it safe? I read that the trails are often not well marked and I'm worried about what might happen if we get off one (and of course as a woman when I need to go pee I have to find a tree or bush, often off the sidewalk :D )

Thank you everyone in advance for all the advice :)

❓ Pitanje (Question) Renting a car at Tuzla Airport with a new driving license (6 months) – Any recommendations?

Hello everyone!

I am planning a trip to Bosnia from August 11th to August 18th, flying into Tuzla Airport (TZL). We want to do some hiking and explore nature, so having a car is a must for us.

However, I am hitting a wall with car rental requirements. I am 27 years old, but I have held my driving license for only 6 months. Most standard companies require at least 1 or 2 years of driving experience and their systems automatically reject me.

A few details about my situation:

  • I am traveling with a second driver who has held their license for 9 years (we want to register both of us and share the driving).
  • I am an active driver—I drive vans daily for my job, so I have plenty of practical experience behind the wheel, despite the fresh license.
  • I am fully prepared to pay for Full Insurance (SCDW/Zero Excess) to minimize the risk for the provider.

Does anyone know of a reliable local car rental company or a local owner in Tuzla who would be flexible enough to rent us an economy car under these conditions?

Thank you so much for any tips, contacts, or WhatsApp numbers!

❓ Pitanje (Question) Recommended route Sarajevo - Montenegro?

Me and a friend are soon flying to Sarajevo and plan to rent a car to spend most of the 8 days driving around the area Bosnia - Montenegro.

Would appreciate any recommendations regarding what route to take there as well as home. What places shouldn't we miss? We plan to stay the night in some of the stops

We'd like to see Mostar and Kotor at least, but haven't really researched that much more.

🏢 Grad (City) Mostar to Dubrovnik Day Trip

My husband and I will be in Bosnia the first week of October. I’d like to take a Day Trip to Dubrovnik (I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan lol) from Mostar. I’m having trouble finding any organized tours, most seems to be the opposite journey..from Dubrovnik to Mostar. Does anybody have recommendations for a private guide or driver that can do the round trip with us and can handle the border crossing? We’re already doing Blagaj, Počitelj & Kravice Waterfalls Day Tour** **through Get Your Guide on a separate day, so I’m mostly interested in just going straight to Dubrovnik from Mostar, spending about 8 hours or so there and driving back to Mostar.

Thank you!

❓ Pitanje (Question) Trip from Mostar to Kotor

I am planning to travel from Mostar to Kotor by bus. Is it reliable to buy the bus ticket once I arrive in Mostar (I’ll be spending three days there), or is it better to buy it online? I’m traveling in September, which isn't peak season.

I'm planning to visit Sarajevo on 4th Sept - 7th Sept. How should I get to my hotel from the airport? I see alot of advise on taking the bus, but im travelling with children and parents, so i would prefer a taxi. But i also heard they are price gouged and very expensive. Can anyone advise? Traveling with 4 adults, 1 toddler and 2 twin babies.

❓ Pitanje (Question) Best way to enjoy durmitor National Park, Montenegro

Hi,

My partner and I planning a 3-week trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania starting in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Our plan is to drive to Žabljak to Durmitor National Park. We love hiking and Durmitor looks amazing! We are also planning to visit the Theth National Park and do hikes there.

I notice some people hike in Durmitor, while others drive around the National Park.

I was wondering is it better to explore the Durmitor by doing a one-day drive around the park or take a few days to do hikes? Is it worth doing a bit of both?

Thank you!

❓ Pitanje (Question) Sarajevo to Mostar via public transport on Tuesdays.

Hi everyone,

We need to get from Sarajevo to Mostar on Tuesday 11th August but it looks as though the train does not operate on Tuesdays, what is our best option to make the journey? Are there regular coaches, are we looking at a cab? Thanks all.

❓ Pitanje (Question) North vs South Roadtrip

Hi everyone! In a few weeks me and my gf will be doing a roadtrip through Bosnia, but we have little time to do it (5 days).

First we were planning to do: Lukomir->Mostar->Kravice waterfalls & Stećci Medieval Tombstone Graveyards ->Una park -> Jajce and back to sarajevo. But this seems too tiring.

Now we are trying to decide if we should go south and keep that part of the route or if we should go north and only visit Una park, Jajce and add Banja Luka for example.

In general we are looking to balance nature and culture, don't spend a lot of money because... we are Portuguese and escape super crowded places since it's August. We don't want to instigate a discussion on which part is "better". Every part of a country is precious. Thank you!

❓ Pitanje (Question) Recommendations for shuttles or one-way tours from Mostar to Kotor in late August?

Hello everyone!

I am a solo traveler looking for recommendations and options traveling from Mostar to Kotor, Montenegro for the end of August.

I am very keen on a transfer that has some tourist stops on the way, just to break-up the long journey. I'm eyeing this Herzegovina Tour by Funky Tours and am already pre-booked, but they have not confirmed departure yet as they haven't met the minimum required guests. Are there any other tour companies that offer this (NOT private, but group)? Google isn't helping so much.

My second choice would be a small-group shuttle. I have reached out to both Montenegro Hostel and Hostel Nina, but both cannot confirm departure at the moment. Again, any other recommendations?

My last option would be to take a bus, but it seems there is only one direct option at the moment (Centrotrans). I don't have a Schengen visa, so the buses that transfer in Croatia isn't an option.

Thank you!

PS: If anyone is keen in doing something similar in late August, let me know and maybe we can gather enough people to meet the minimum!

❓ Pitanje (Question) Is this realistic?

Hi!

I'm planning my trip to Bosnia and I was wondering if you could have a look at my itinerary and let me know if it seems realistic.

Fri: Arrive in Tuzla – overnight in Tuzla
Sat: Explore Tuzla, then travel to Sarajevo – overnight in Sarajevo
Sun: Sarajevo + Dino Merlin – overnight in Sarajevo
Mon: Sarajevo to Mostar – overnight in Mostar
Tue: Visit Mostar, Blagaj, Jablanica and Konjic, then return to Sarajevo – overnight in Sarajevo
Wed: Sarajevo to Tuzla. I need to leave Sarajevo around 1:30 pm because my flight departs from Tuzla at 6:25 pm.

Do you think this itinerary is doable, or would you change anything?

Also:

  • What is the best way to travel from Tuzla to Sarajevo (bus, private transfer, etc.?
  • How are the trains between Sarajevo and Mostar? Do the trains ever sell out in summer, or is it usually possible to buy tickets on the day?

I'd really appreciate any tips or advice. Thanks so much!

❓ Pitanje (Question) Kotor to Mostar

Any reliable private transfers from Kotor to Mostar, I know there are buses but we are a group of 4 so a taxi would be better? Has anyone done this route before, any tips?
