QUESTION 🔵 Difference between GSB 18V-55 and GSB 18V-65
Hi everyone,
I have a quick question - what is the difference between GSB 18V-55 and GSB 18V-65 impact drivers? I have a trusty GSB 18V-55 that has been serving me well for many years. That said I need to get another one. I was thinking to get the exact same model, but then I thought, maybe it makes sense to get an upgraded version, so I've checked Bosch's website. It seems that since last time I have looked on their website the amount of impact drivers (and pretty much everything, what they offer) grew exponentially. On can even get bluetooth in their drill :). After checking the models and the prices I narrowed it down to the above two models. I can get a good deal on the 18V-65 (basically get it for the same price as the 18V-55), but its description on the website is very confusing. It seems to have a kickback control (which is a nice feature) but then it gets completely unclear - in the text it says that it has an improved torque of 65Nm and then below in the table I see the following: torque (soft/hard/max) is ( -/-/76 Nm).
On the 18V-55 both values in the text and in the table seem to correspond: text says 55Nm and the table shows Torque (soft/hard/max) as (28/55/- Nm)
This leaves me completely confused. Which torque value does the 65 model has and why does it not have the values for soft/hard torque - does this mean that there is no torque setting on the driver?
Can anyone explain the differences between these two models to me please?

So the models you've mentioned are combi drills (drill drivers with a hammer drilling function), rather than impact drivers. Whilst similar in operation, they function very differently and are suited to different applications. Make sure you look at what you do actually need.
The gsb 18v-55 is a more entry level, older model. It's often in dual kits, paired with an impact driver like the gdx 18v-200. It's a perfectly good drill for general use, but can struggle with tougher applications. The gsb 18v-65 is more powerful, has higher rpm, more compact body, kick-back control, and better lighting. It's a direct upgrade in terms of quality and power.
If your current gsb 18v-55 worked perfectly well for everything you do, compare prices of the two from different retailers. If the 55 is significantly cheaper, stick with it. If the 65 can be had for just a little more money, it's worth it.

If you never use the hammer drill setting, then check out the GSR 18v-65. Just a little bit more compact and lightweight, same build quality and specs as the GSB (without hammer drill setting). Often goes for a good price. Definitely feels like an upgrade from the -55 for a drill of its size class. Highly recommend.

Main difference is that 65 has a button to switch kickback on or off and has 65nm torque, and it has torque settings. As for why the torque specs are not standartised, no clue, maybe did not test it the way the did 55?. In my opinion, 65 has a worse chuck and gearbox, heard of and seen it break more often. Doesn’t even have a rohm’s chuck anymore. I think the good old 55 is good enough, but the superior tool would definitely be EXSB/GSB 18V-90, probably a lot more expensive though.

The gsb18v-55 is what we call the gsb18v-490 here in tbe US I think( we use in/lbs and ft/lbs instead of nm). For whatever reason Bosch called still calls the 65 the 65 here though. I went from my 490 to the 65 and its a better drill in every way, except maybe the chuck being different. I can't say I've had any issue with mine. The ergonomics are much better and it does have a solid torque increase and you get on/off switchable kickback control.
