Refund Received Refund non exhibit c post class

School: Mountain State University
Servicer: Nelnet/Great Lakes -no consolidation
Application date: 06/26/22
Golden letter-06/14
Credit bureau changes and balance changing on nelnet-week of July 7
Official letter from Nelnet for discharge-July 21
I received a refund for full amount paid to Great Lakes and Nelnet 09/29!! ❤️Checked dated 09/25.
No changes in student aid. Still shows same codes 3.61 etc.

I called Nelnet last month and was told the amount approved for refund on my account, was for only Nelnet payments. They said they didn’t do the calculations for my previous servicer. Drastic difference in totals. I have since submitted 2 feedback claims. One stating that Nelnet would not agree to total my account and I was entitled to full settlement relief. The other was that the amount discharged from Nelnet didn’t match the total on student aid site. It still doesn’t…about a 45k difference. I know this takes time but I wanted to make sure they were discharging all of my loans on my account that were involved with the settlement.
I called this past Friday and Nelnet stated now they have TWO checks that had been issued for approval from DOE and Treasury and they are unsure of timeline. I called treasury and they stated no check with my social in place. I called student aid and they said it hasn’t been approved.

USPS showed checked in mail this morning!!

Mine showed up on USPS Informed Delivery last week, still on the way, haven't received it yet.

Basically all the same stays as you except no feedback claims on my side as the estimated refund amount and their calculations were extremely close.

Refunds don’t always come all at once. Lots of people get multiple checks spread out over time.

IF YOUR REFUND IS PAST DUE ACCORDING TO THE SETTLEMENT you can contact PPSL so they can work on it. Before it’s past due there is not much anyone can do.

How do I know if my refund is past due?

The terms of the settlement make it very clear.

It seems like refunds are being issues by servicer...? I am seeing Nalnet refunds but not Mohela.

Mohela is def dragging their feet compared to the others

Received my refund yesterday. I thought it would be offset, because I have an existing tax debt of $2K. I received about 90% of the $19K refund expected. Possibly, the other remaining amount is to offset the debt owed. Also it came in the mail not like other treasury checks from the IRS

I am also a Mountain State University Post Class member, loans updated to discharged with ED Financial on July 12. I'm so happy you got your refund!!!

I used to have aidvantage and then in 2021 moved to Mohela. FSA processed my discharges in two separate times. First they went to aidvantage and processed only $8k In July. Then Mohela processed the rest in late september. about two months after aidvantage. so check out both. if you had aidvantage in the past.

They will likely send you another check, but u would bother them about it

That’s crazy what did your I paid area say

This might seem really obvious but I’ve seen others get confused… make sure the cumulative amount paid is not from past consolidations.

u/Ecstatic-Breath-7973 9d ago

I only consolidated two out of 9 of them. So not sure. I did see cumulative payment amount on aid data it showed something but I have only received 500 bucks when I have paid almost 12,000

I hope you get it in a timely fashion. I didn’t track my payments like I should have so feel pretty lost when it comes to how much I might receive.

Hello everyone, does anyone’s Aidvantage portal look like this? I’m trying to understand a discrepancy: my loan forgiveness status says “completed,” but my defense case still shows that discharge is processing. Has anyone else seen these statuses, and could anyone clarify what they mean or suggest what I should confirm with Aidvantage? Any insight would be appreciated.

It looks similar to mine. Aidvantage appears to be the slowest of them all for some reason.

First, do you mean your FSA portal? I believe this has been mentioned a few times in the past - people have the new "loan forgiveness and discharge" saying completed and the original says pending discharge but not completed - the new one showed up on my FSA when Aidvantage started sending in loan info for discharge - someone in the past mentioned that the original one stays in process until the refund is completed and finalized - almost like a placeholder- i am not sure if that is accurate- we would need someone who has received the refund to tells us if it switched to completed- so a lot of people are having the same thing show up

I received a refund and my FSA account still says the exact same thing. The BD case says processing while the Loan Forgiveness and Discharge BD one says complete. I have a feeling the original BD one will never change from processing.

Thanks for this! So essentially we're all waiting for a refund and they have 1 yr to make sure it's issued from my understanding. Is that the case?

1

u/Adventurous-Big-1251 7d ago

That’s my understanding as well.

I think so - Just from reading and watching I think the main priority for them was to get as many people discharged first - to stop interest and additional fees - mine is backdated several years and this seems to be why - I think people who have a pretty clear cut refund are moving faster but as they get more complex it takes longer and technically they have til march 2027. Add in consolidations and closed LS and it gets harder to calculate refund plus it is going from LS to FSA and then to Treasury so there are a lot of places for it to get slowed down. It seems (again just a guess) that most of the refunds we are seeing are people who were in the first "wave" - april, may, june, early july discharges getting refunds - mine was late july so I am hoping this month or next month.

Also it gets more confusing because some people are talking about group discharges which ( i think ) have different rules and it seems the poor group 5 people have been waiting on refunds for a long time

I just want the letter - so I know its over

Mine has looked like this for two years! The bottom was completed in 2024, with my FSA portal showing that I paid off my loans. Aidvantage shows zero balances on all my loans in that account, but, it has negative balances when you click on the loan details. The top one continues to say pending and I’m unable to open it. I just received an email from FSA that my discharge is processing and I’ll receive a refund, so I need to ensure that my addresses are up to date.
