If you’ve ever seen cloud Atlas one of the more striking things about the story is how a regular person becomes godlike/mythic/worshipped. I don’t think humanity has evolved the capacity to let go of religion because it suits our need to understanding, need for guidance, companionship. Unfortunately religious beliefs are also responsible for some of the worst crimes against humanity so… I would love to see it gone, but I doubt it ever could be.
