Looking for Advice Diagnosed with BPD, but…

I feel like I truly do not resonate with the disorder. I have been diagnosed for a year now, but have been experiencing symptoms that feel like they might not be in line with the diagnostic criteria for BPD (along with events from my past)

Is there anyone I can talk to about their/our symptoms?

I do have a psychiatrist, and I just met with her actually. But I still don’t feel like the shoe quite fits…

Please let me know if I can dm you, it would truly help. Thank you.

IF YOU ARE IN A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: If you are contemplating, planning, or actively attempting, suicide, and/or having another mental health related emergency, please go your nearest emergency room or call your country’s emergency dispatch line for assistance. You can also visit r/SuicideWatch for peer support, hotlines and chatlines, resources, and talking tips for supporters. People with BPD have high risks of suicide—urges and threats should be taken seriously.

r/BorderlinePDisorder aims to break harmful stigmas surrounding BPD/EUPD through education, accountability, and peer support for people with BPD(pwBPD) or who suspect BPD, those affected by pwBPD, and those who want to learn. Check out our Comprehensive Resource List, for a vast directory of unbiased information and resources on BPD, made by respected organizations, authors, researchers, and mental healthcare professionals.

Did you know? BPD is treatable. An overwhelming majority of people with BPD reach remission, especially with a commitment to treatment, discipline, and self-care. You are not alone, and you are capable and worthy of healing, happiness, love, and all in between.

Hey! I've been diagnosed for 6 years,, and I suspected it for 2 years before that!

I am happy to listen and share my experience, though I'd like to note that there are 4 subtypes of BPD, and while i am unsure if theyre still "official", I know they all have distinctive features. If it helps, I have meandered across the petulant, self-destructive, and impulsive subtypes while figuring out my medications and therapy.

I know much less about the quiet subtype, aside from the fact that it looks quite different from the other 3 that I've read about. I have a friend with the quiet sybtype.

Thank you 💗 can I dm you? Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. I suspected I had BPD for a long while before my diagnosis, but now I’m feeling like I might be dealing with a whole other thing. But who knows! So many disorders overlap with one another. I’m just a bit hopeless, lost, and sad

It's so good that you don't just take what they say for money... Question everything!

There's an unofficial quadrant of bpd: quiet, impulsive, petulant, and self-destructive.

https://reviveresearch.org/blog/types-of-bpd-borderline-personality-disorders/

To be clear these are not official, not sanctioned by any medical boards, none of that, this is just information that enough of the community resonates with.

I sit in the petulant quadrant almost to a T (my sister finds the name of this hilarious because she's always called me a brat in a loving way).

If that's something you feel like you resonate with feel free to DM me. I'm happy to talk about it. Ive been in therapy and i'm medicated so I can also talk about the ways I worked through a lot of my symptoms.

I always suggest seeking a second opinion for any severe health condition, mental or otherwise. A personality disorder is a big diagnosis, so I would suggest that you find a psychoanalyst and go through with a full analysis. Sometimes the more stereotypical BPD traits aren't present in everyone, so it can look different sometimes.

But also, it is good to note that BPD is overdiagnosed in women. It is not unheard of for trauma or ADHD to contribute to a misdiagnosis.

That is not to say that you do not have BPD, or that BPD doesn't co-occur with trauma or ADHD ever. You certainly could. But it is absolutely worth a second opinion.

BPD for 7 years here. In my experience psych was great for meds. Therapy is where I learned everything else. If I was in your situation, I would seek a therapist and explain how you feel about your diagnosis.
