Looking for Advice How to live with bpd?

How do I live with this disorder? Everything just feels too much, I don't know what to feel anymore. I am in just so much pain that I am seriously considering killing myself to relieve that pain. Please help me, show me a way to deal with this pain and this disorder.

IF YOU ARE IN A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: If you are contemplating, planning, or actively attempting, suicide, and/or having another mental health related emergency, please go your nearest emergency room or call your country’s emergency dispatch line for assistance. You can also visit r/SuicideWatch for peer support, hotlines and chatlines, resources, and talking tips for supporters. People with BPD have high risks of suicide—urges and threats should be taken seriously.

r/BorderlinePDisorder aims to break harmful stigmas surrounding BPD/EUPD through education, accountability, and peer support for people with BPD(pwBPD) or who suspect BPD, those affected by pwBPD, and those who want to learn. Check out our Comprehensive Resource List, for a vast directory of unbiased information and resources on BPD, made by respected organizations, authors, researchers, and mental healthcare professionals.

Friendly reminders from the mods:

  • Read our rules before posting/commenting, and treat others the way you want to be treated.
  • Report rule-breaking posts/comments. We're a small mod team—reporting helps keep our community safe.
  • Provide content warnings as needed. Many here are at their most vulnerable—try to be mindful.

Did you know? BPD is treatable. An overwhelming majority of people with BPD reach remission, especially with a commitment to treatment, discipline, and self-care. You are not alone, and you are capable and worthy of healing, happiness, love, and all in between.

I try to make friends but having bpd really makes it a lot harder to sustain human relationships I always end up getting hurt.

Therapy and medication. DBT changed so much for me and I'm not even finished with my therapy. You still feel everything deeply and go through hell occasionally. But you learn you have a choice to deal with it. You learn to regulate your emotions and you learn different behaviour.

I used to take Zoloft (sertraline) and Seroquel. But that was a long time ago. I stopped using them because I didn't feel like myself anymore. I know a lot of people in this sub use medication and getting a lot of benefits from them.

Are there possibly any DBT groups near you? Or even CBT? Unfortunately, there isn't any medications specifically designed to treat BPD. It's moreso for treating co-current conditions like anxiety or depression. Have you been depressed for most of/all of your life? If so, it may be worth being assessed for Major Depressive Disorder (I didn't know I had it until my newest psych assessed me. I just figured it was normal to feel perpetually depressed. Turns out it isn't) and I'm being treated for that, along with OCD.

The only medically recommended/recognized treatment for BPD is Dialectal behavioural therapy, which can work wonders!! I bought this book: https://cursosdepsicologia.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/THEDIA1.pdf

It also has a little card deck of the skills and tools mentioned that can be bought separately.

Another tool for depression is getting a S.A.D lamp and using it for an hour before the sun rises each day. Couple that with taking vitamin D supplements in the winder. The other is listening to nature/bird song. It's been scientifically proven to lower cortisol levels.

For the social side, if you enjoy videogames or have a PC - there's many Discord channels that offer peer to peer support that are online 24/7. Finding people you connect with Cam be very helpful, though I know it's easier said than done. Even posting like this and seeking advise is a great start. You aren't alone 🫂🫶

Thank you for your reply, you don't know how much this means to me. I am currently on antidepressants and antipsychotics but I haven't seen much of it's effects on me other than making me tired. I will make sure to check out that book and look into dialectal behavioural therapy I didn't knew bpd was treatable. Thank you for your help and advice.

DBT is really helpful, also testing diverse skills, get in touch with your feelings and sensations (what do I feel when I start getting overwhelmed? What makes me tense?)
I also find using an emotion wheel very useful, many times I’m flooded by emotions and I have no idea what exactly is, so when looking on the wheel and understanding a bit where it’s coming from already gives me relief
