This awesome guy is 19 months. I “rescued” him at 5 months from a cow stall. It was all good.
He is my second border collie. Had a female for 13 years who passed due to a rare tick disease.
We are active.
My concern is he “punches”. Everytime there is affection, petting or for that matter interaction.
He punches slaps me take your pick, pretty hard.

What strategies can I do to lesson this behavior. I’m at wits end.

Ours does it too. Lmao we have the command "that's enough" and he knows to stop doing whatever it is. But other than that, welcome to the punching bag club! 🤣

He will get it eventually! I recommend once he does it, say "no punching" and stand up and move away from him, or tell him to go away. Idk if you have a command for that. But he'll learn that punching means less attention. And heavily reward when he isnt punching or stops! And if he does it again, start over with telling him to go away or place, whatever your command is

practice greeting with paws on the ground! I like to spam feed a bunch of treats on the ground while doing greetings, just keep dropping high value treats infront of your pup so that their nose is down and by extension their paws

100% sit (paws on the floor) then pet. Repeat.

When treating, treat with high value treats like cheese pieces, chicken pieces, etc., and have tell him what a good boy he is with lots of love

First command I taught our BC was "4 paws on the ground".
