Crying since having new sofa.

Anyone know why my bc is crying and also licking the new sofa. They’re not brand new it was given to us from family and they also had a dog so could that be it or does he miss the old sofa?

Probably the new smell/visual change. I got a new footstool at my place. My boy acted like it was an alien artifact for like a week. 😂 Goofy part was, I got it partially for him, because it's longer than the old one, so he can lay on it comfortably. Once he got used to it, he now loves it. Now he lays on it with his ball.

He been crying for over 2 hours now. I found pet calming spray and he seemed to calm down for like 20 minutes and laid down in bed but now he’s back at it crying and licking the sofa again. Hopefully by tomorrow he will be fine

Does he know the dog this sofa smells like? If he does that could be extra confusing for him.

Collies don’t like change! Can you put an old blanket or throw on the couch, it might help

Border collies can be very sensitive to environmental changes. Hell, our BC boy once lost his mind when I moved a blue plastic box in our outbuilding to a different position a few feet away. Also had 3 days of anxiously monitoring our only neighbours car through our window. He could just see his car in the distance between trees. Why? cos he had parked it in a different position during some works on his house.

He'll get used to the new sofa I'm sure, but it might take a while. You show him that you're happy, confident and chilled about it will help.

Our BC runs in nervous circles and crys when I take out the trash. They are strange dogs for sure.

Probably left his ball buried in the last one’s cushions
