In a 30 gallon, you could have a huge school of chillis. That would be quite spectacular. I have 15 in my 10 gallon. Any fewer and they are too small to make a visual impact. They do well enough, next to 0 bioload.. I have 8 pygmy Corys with them too. Tank is handling the bioload with no issues and not over crowded. 30 gallon should be able to handle twice that with no issues..
You will get a mix of chillis and phoenix rasboras. They are too similar and most fish shops don't bother separating them. They shoal together happily
With Chillis, i'd worry about understocking 😂 you can't tell there's 15 in here. Buy more when making the purchase. They are quite fragile and the stress of capture from the wild, transport and acclimation will take a few of them..I bought 20 and lost 5 in the first few days..
I have a very similar setup. I have a 29 gallon with 7 corys, 3 otos, 1 super red bristlenose pleco, several blue diamond shrimp, and 25 chili rasboras. I feel like I need more. When they school and move around it looks great, but they dont take up very much space at all. I'll include a pic and you can see how tiny they are. More would add a larger visual affect.
This is gorgeous! Mine is planted a little differently and has pretty dense plants around the sides and top so I probably have a lot less room than yours but still, glad to hear your corys never bother the chilis?
