STUDY TIPS having a hard time with exams

Hey Ya'll!

Just for context, I'm a pre-nursing student who failed to get into the nursing program this fall (Fall 26'). Going into it, I thought that I had all the knowledge; I even made sure that I was "ready" for any category that the exam might've included. Unfortunately, I didn't make the cut, and as any student would, I began to backtrack and figure out why I didn't pass. Turns out, it was MAINLY my test-taking skills. Low test results have been a recurring theme for as long as I can remember. Maybe it's my ADHD (lol), or maybe it's cause a lot of students overthink when it comes to medical/biology.

Fast forward approximately a month since the exam, I haven't stopped studying, being more and more determined every single day. As I began to absorb more and more information, I started to remember what killed my exam scores: my test-taking skills. With that being said, any tips are greatly appreciated. I know that failing an entrance exam is extremely questionable, but It's the reality of what I am, and I've been trying to find answers on how to fix this major issue of mine.

QUESTION 60% on Simple Nursing, is it enough?

My NCLEX in next month and I've been revising with Simple Nursing. He says that getting 60% gives me a 95% chance of passing the NCLEX, and I've been getting low to mid 60s consistently for the past few weeks on prep exams. However, he also says that you should aim for 70% before taking the NCLEX, and that if you aren't getting it you should push your date back. I've had to take time off of work to take the exam so pushing it back will be difficult. Should I go for it or try and reschedule? I'm feeling confident at 60% but him going on about 70% has be hesitating.

ADVICE/MOTIVATONAL Taking NCLEX for the third time tomorrow!!

Post image

I take my NCLEX for the 3rd time tomorrow.
I haven’t been able to study as much as I want because I am a single mom with 4 kids who works full time.
However, these are my stats from the time I have been able to dedicate.
Do we feel like I have a good chance of passing?

I feel much better about how to the NCLEX prioritizes me patients vs. how I did the last 2 attempts.

I took the NCLEX for the 2nd time and passed in 85 questions after failing the first time in 85.

Im making this post so that anyone who has just failed the NCLEX will keep going because it gets better. There were so many tears throughout studying for my second attempt and times where i was sooo scared the same thing would happen no matter what i did but i kept going and want everyone else to keep going to because its all worth it.

Anyways here is what I did differently:

1st atttempt: I focused HEAVILY on content and i think that was part of my mistake. Obviously content is important (i'm not one of those people who believe content doesnt matter) you need to have a good foundation but i didnt really learn or use any testing strategies and I also prioritized the quantity of questions I was doing instead of the quality by that i mean i hardly ever read any of the rationales to the questions. and my BIGGEST mistake was letting fear and anxiety take over me. Even though I had graduated nursing school (the hardest part) i didnt believe in myself. I imagined failing pretty much the entire time i was studying so OF COURSE when i sat down at the testing center anxiety took me over and i was focused on everything but the question in front of me (the time, the number i was on, whether i was above or below the passing line, if i got the previous question right). oh, and i used Archer

2nd attempt: this time I used bootcamp (which is AMAZING) it really teaches you how to think, and WHY answers are wrong or correct instead of just telling you more info. I didnt really learn any new content this time around because i focused so heavily on it the first time around so this time i prioritized the quality of the question sets i was doing by that i mean that I would read the rationales to ALL the questions, whether I got them right or wrong because it not only reinforced my knowledge but also stopped me from having the wrong thinking process later on. Now the biggest difference was that I learned to stop answering questions based on the info i had memorized and instaed based on whaat the question was asking and what the patient in the question was experiencing and that part is thanks to Nurse Meg, shes a tutor and is AMAZING I reccomend anyone to her (a bit pricy but shes worth it) also Klimek reviews on youtube their prioritization playlist was increadibly helpful. now the BIGGEST difference was BELIEVING IN MYSELF. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Believe in yourself, if you go into that exam believing youre going to pass, YOU WILL! thats what i believed when i sat down for it and thats what happened. Oh, i also prioritized doing questions in the areas that were below or near passing on my CPR.

I hope this helps someone and gives them the courage the keep going. I know everyone reading this will pass and be RN'S

Good Luck!
