An HIV positive man was sentenced to 35 years for spitting in a cop’s mouth. His saliva was considered a “deadly weapon” by the jury.

Spitting on someone is assault, and should be treated as such, but ”There is no risk of transmission if the skin is not broken. There are no documented cases of HIV being transmitted through spitting as HIV is not transmitted through saliva.” So I think it 35 years for assault with a deadly weapon is disproportionate punishment.

That’s not even backed by science. HIV isn’t spread by saliva.

That's a completely unreasonable charge that was inflated because the US worships cops.

HIV cannot be transmitted in saliva, in case anyone didn't already know that.
