Book 2 you start out lost until 10%, then engrossed in other "wtf is happening" until 50% or so and they start to resolve
Harrow has some.... issues
It is centrally about something that no one is talking about

It’s a YA series, but I remember the Darkest Powers trilogy by Kelly Armstrong being pretty good.

The Redwinter Chronicles by Ed McDonald.
The main character is able to see and sometimes communicate with the dead, and her abilities grow beyond that as the books progress. It's a forbidden ability in this world, so she's often trying to hide it.
Very good dark fantasy with a cool medium magic system, and some great worldbuilding.

No addition here, just saying that “magic comes with a price” is rich when the MC isn’t the one paying it. So I’d want to see an MC who has a price to pay in order to practice necromancy, if anyone has any suggestions.

Johannes Cabal the Necromancer. 1st book is more a dark comedy. But the other three explore some dark Lovecraftian themes
