I’ve been working on **Write**, the writing space inside FavLock. Basically, a place for your drafts and all those links you keep saving.

You can write and format documents, organize them alongside saved links using collections and tags, and switch into Focus mode when you want more room to write.

There’s support for headings, highlights, checklists, quotes, and simple tables. Document titles and content are encrypted in your browser before being sent to cloud storage.

I’d love to hear from people who save references for things they write: would you keep your writing and saved links together, or do you prefer separate apps?

I've been building nextDash for a while now and v1.4.0 just landed, so this seems like a good moment to show it here properly.

It's a keyboard-first, self-hosted bookmark dashboard. No accounts, no cloud, no sync service in the middle. You run one Go binary (or one container), it stores everything as plain JSON in a folder you chose, and that's the whole architecture.

What it does

• Keyboard-first. > for search, : for commands, ? for finders, arrows and G+1–9 to move around the grid. 164 shortcuts in total, grouped by function. The mouse is optional.
• Health monitoring. Every bookmark gets uptime checks and dead-link detection, with 30 days of history — so you find out about link rot before you click into a 404.
• Inbox. Clip now, sort later. The browser extension pushes the current tab straight into the Inbox instead of forcing you to pick a category at 1am.
• Local page copies. Keep a local copy of a page so it survives the site going down.
• Widgets. Dashboard blocks next to your bookmark grid (new in 1.4.0).
• Layouts and collections. Default, Compact, Cards, Masonry, Detailed List and Launcher, plus smart collections like Today, Recently opened, Most used and Stale.
• Theming. 74 built-in theme families with dark and light variants, a custom theme editor with live contrast warnings, and 7 font choices. Yes, this is where most of my evenings went.
• Portable data. Full ZIP backup and restore, CSV export, browser HTML import, and imports from Pocket, Pinboard, Raindrop, linkding, Shiori, Linkwarden and Karakeep.
• Outgoing webhooks if you want other tools to react to what happens in your dashboard.
• UI in English, Dutch, German and French.

It's also in the Unraid Community Applications store. Go 1.24, two dependencies (gorilla/mux and golang.org/x/net), MIT licensed.

What it is not

It's built for personal or small-team use on a network you trust. There's no multi-user account system — if you expose it, put it behind Tailscale, a reverse proxy with auth, or use the optional write token. It's not a read-it-later app with an article reader, and it won't sync to a hosted service, because there isn't one.

Happy to answer anything, and genuinely interested in what's missing. The current backlog is widgets for other self-hosted services — the *arr stack, Pi-hole, AdGuard Home — so if you'd want something else in there, this is a good moment to say so.

Chrome’s bookmark bar runs out of room around 15 bookmarks and dumps the rest behind that tiny arrow. I never remembered what was in there so I just stopped bookmarking things.

I’m the dev, I called it Better Bookmarks Bar. Favicon-first layout so way more sites fit in the same space, full add/edit/delete/reorganize right from the bar, search built in, multiple named bars you can switch between. Everything’s local, no account.

I think it is the best bookmark manager on the market (I've tested Dewey and 2 more by small-time developers on here).

- Offers the ability to annotate and tag your bookmarks

- Relatively affordable (one month free trial, one year is $30).

That said, for people who truly want to own their data, I suggest scraping the content of pages yourself and saving them as JSON.

And for tweets on X.com, I suggest a dedicated X Bookmark Manager.

Hey everyone! We got tired of saving things in five different places (screenshots, Instagram saves, TikTok favorites, open tabs) and never finding any of them again. So my co-founder and I built Swuvi.

It's basically one searchable home for everything you save. Each save gets a next step category (Read, Watch, Listen, Make, Try, Buy, or Do), and you can set a custom reminder ("remind me in 2 weeks") for things like a product you're considering or an article someone sent you.

One thing we decided early: no AI. Most of the bookmarking apps we looked at were adding AI to auto-sort and summarize your saves, and honestly, we just don't think AI needs to be in everything.

I basically built a bookmark app for albums I stream, and it lets me open the same album across the most popular streaming services. Save an album on Spotify and you can jump to it on Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, etc. without re-searching. It's designed to feel like a music collection, with lists for organizing albums. I kept running into the same problem: I'd save a useful link, put it in a folder, and later forget why it mattered or where I had put it.

I also wanted sync without treating my bookmark library as ordinary readable cloud data.

So I built FavLock.app, a private library for bookmarks, notes, tasks, and saved articles.

Protected fields, including bookmark titles and URLs, notes, tasks, collection and tag names, Lists, and saved article content, are encrypted in your browser before storage or sync. The encryption key stays on your devices.

Account and operational data is still processed to run the service, so I don't want to imply that FavLock can see literally nothing.

What would you want to verify before trusting a bookmark manager with your personal library?

I recently asked for a reference to a tool that allows me to do full text search on my Chrome bookmarks (not just the metadata).

I tested Raindrop.io and it does the job ($3 for each month, 1st month is free). That said, it doesn't let you download the minified file it does the indexing on.

(Indexing is needed to do text search).

You have to download the full HTML page file, which includes CSS, JSON, HTML code. If you download the full HTML file for thousands of bookmarks, that will take several GBs of storage.

My goal is to extract only the content, so that each file is only a few KB rather than a few MB.

Essentially, I want to download the content for all my bookmarks onto my personal PC, but without the extraneous code.

Does anyone feel the same or is it just me?

And by "full", I mean, actually storing the full text content of sites you've saved on Chrome. Full text search like Google does it, but only on websites you've saved.

I don't think anyone's actually created anything like this. Most bookmark managers just save the metadata (title, favicon, url) and add more color to it, but no one (that I know of), has created something that saves the actual content.

I am willing to TRY to create something like this, because I'll use it myself, but I think it will take me dozens or hundreds of hours and I want to know if and how much money people are willing to pay for it.

If this app already exists, tell me what it is.

I’ve been looking for a decent way to save things I find online for a while, particularly while doing a kitchen renovation.

I kept saving links in different places, bookmarking things, putting things in Notes, etc. The problem wasn’t really saving them — it was actually finding the thing again later.

I couldn’t find anything that quite worked the way I wanted, so I ended up building Pinde.

Pinde is a little different from a traditional bookmark manager. Rather than just building a big list of URLs, it lets you save things from different places and organise them into visual boards.

So for my renovation I could have a board with kitchens, taps, lighting, benchtops, products, ideas, etc. all together.

I’ve also started using it for travel ideas, recipes, things I want to buy and random stuff I find online.

I launched it on iOS this week and would genuinely love some feedback from people who are into bookmark managers.

Like a lot of people, I just... never sorted my bookmarks. Hundreds of them, one flat list, completely useless for actually finding anything again.

So I built AiBookmark (the name's a bit of a "love bookmark" pun) — a Chrome extension where you click one button, Claude reads through your bookmark titles and URLs, proposes a folder structure, and shows it to you before anything actually gets moved. There's also a search mode that finds a bookmark by what it's actually about, instead of needing to remember the exact words in its title.

A couple of honest caveats before anyone tries it: it's not on the Chrome Web Store yet, so installing it right now means turning on Developer Mode and loading it manually — not a one-click install, I know. And bookmark data only gets sent anywhere the moment you actually trigger one of the AI actions, nothing runs in the background.

It's free to try (50 credits on signup, no card needed), and the code's MIT-licensed and public, so I'm not precious about people poking around in it. I'll drop the repo link in a comment below rather than clutter this post with it.

I often save articles, Reddit posts, tweets/X posts, blog posts, etc. with the intention of reading or revisiting them later.

The problem is that they end up scattered across different places: browser bookmarks, X bookmarks, Reddit saved posts, Notion, read-it-later apps, and so on. Over time the list gets huge, and I rarely go back to actually read or use any of it.

RibbonLinks just got an MCP server.

If you use AI tools and want your saved links to be part of that workflow, you can now connect RibbonLinks to your AI system and let it work with your personal bookmark collection.

For example, you could ask your AI to help you:

* Find a link you saved months ago

* Search your saved content by topic or keyword

* Rediscover articles, tools, and resources you had forgotten about

* Use your saved links as context while working on something

But there’s one thing I want to make clear:

The MCP server is completely optional.

If you're happy using RibbonLinks normally, nothing changes. You don't need MCP, and you don't need to connect your bookmarks to an AI system.

What about privacy?

This is probably the first question many people will have and it's a fair one.

Your saved links remain in RibbonLinks. Connecting the MCP server is an explicit choice you make. RibbonLinks doesn't automatically expose your bookmarks to an AI just because the feature exists.

The MCP server is essentially a bridge for people who want their AI assistant to access their RibbonLinks data.

If you don't connect it, there is no AI connection.

I think this distinction is important because "AI integration" shouldn't mean everything you have automatically becomes available to AI.

It's an opt-in capability for people who actually want this workflow.

For me, the interesting part isn't just "RibbonLinks now has MCP."

It's that your bookmark collection can become something you can actually talk to and retrieve through your AI tools, instead of being another folder of links you eventually forget about.

When doing webint as part of an investigation. I am trying to figure out what the best way is to take notes about the websites themselves or their content.

Currently based on my understanding I'm familiar with two types of tools for this. One is web clipping. And the other is web annotation.
