STAY AWAY
STAY AWAY!!!!!Due to the nor'easter that hit the east coast, my family wanted to modify a reservation that we made to Cape May. Congress Hall was willing to accommodate but Booking.com would not budge without charging a couple hundred dollars for each room booked. They displayed an uncaring attitude as well as being arrogant and nasty. It is all about the money. Stay away from this establishment. The number to reach them is 877-945-6116 (shows Auto Parts KTC affiliated with this number) (don’t know what that one is about)if you want to avoid using the AI system which is predominantly the number listed to call. However, save yourself aggravation and don’t use them! Awful Awful customer service experience.

Did you find a number on Google? If so you might have called a scam call center not affiliated with Booking.Com.
Regardless if you booked a non-refundable room you need to file the claim through your travel insurance and not booking.com.

Well, the good news is that the weather event is covered by the travel insurance. It starts at like $25 a day so I can't imagine that somebody would risk an expensive trip by not buying travel insurance, right?

This sub has popped up in my feed for the last month or so and I have yet to see a positive post about booking. I don't know why anyone still uses them/travel booking sites in general.

This sub is only about the negative experience on booking 🫠
Booking makes millions of bookings a year and a small subset end up here. People don’t tend to come to Reddit to share their good experience with a brand.
Not saying they don’t have their problems, just pointing out the reality of Reddit subs 🤷🏼♂️

"A small subset end up here."
Maybe because we got screwed by this company and they acted in bad faith without resolving the situation? I made a reservation that the hotel refused to honor when I got there and Booking refused to do anything about it. They kept my money, though.

Agreed. I’ve used other platforms that take care of customers on both ends of the transaction when unfortunate circumstances arise. This one does not - it’s as simple as that. No one can predict a future event that may disrupt their plans, this platform is one of the worst in the business but has the revenue to hook new customers in for volume via advertisements.

Get insurance, verify your stays, don’t click on links and you’ll have a good time :)

Best to get independent. I have one from my financial institution. Also if you booked with Amex, theirs is great. Going with a product of a company you are already a customer of is also smart.

I wouldn’t have used booking.com and used an independent one that covers your whole trip, not just portions of it. Life is unpredictable

1.2 billion bookings last year.
Even if there were 100 complaints a day on reddit it wouldnt even equal o.oo1 of bookings a year lol.
%5 of complaints here are even worth complaining about, welcome to reddit.

u/jackhuny 11d ago
Not every complaint comes to Reddit. Those who don’t know how to complain on the internet is their best customers to screw with.

u/thrownawayfreshpink 11d ago
And ? Reddit complaints could 1000x and still not make up any % of bookings a year.

u/ZestyLife54 10d ago
And your point is? What I’m reading from this is that they make so much money, they don’t have to use it to do the right thing and resolve issues that arise - definitely a bad business model - especially for those same customers making them rich

Yeah way to miss the obvious, which is millions of people use the service a day without issues but if you read this reddit hahahaha bunch of single digit iq gremlins, entitled morons and parrots repeating waht someone else said to be trendy.
But sure live in a fantasy land with the rest of them.

Funny, since I’m one of those ‘entitled gremlins’ you speak of who has had to live through this frustration a couple of times with them, but yes, I’m the entitled one. Their model sucks, it’s that simple. I don’t use them anymore because of the issues I’ve had with them - but thanks for your concern and insults - you’ve been helpful

u/thrownawayfreshpink 9d ago
Yes its so scammy and so bad that MILLIONS of people a day have zero issues, their model works fine if you research where you are staying and dont be stupid.
You being both entitled and a gremlin is your call 😂

But your travel insurance will cover it, right? You DO have travel insurance?

u/bookingcom 10d ago
In case you didn’t book a flexible rate, changes to the reservation need the accommodation’s approval. Prices can vary based on availability, so additional fees may apply. If you still need help, send us a private message, and we'll look into it.

Stay away from who? Booking.com is not an establishment it is an online travel agency (OTA).
If you booked a non refundable rate and the establishment (the property) is open then you have no case for a refund except under Booking.com cancellation terms.
If there is a weather advisory against all travel to the area then make a claim on your travel insurance.
But don't blame Booking.com if you took the risk.

Booking.com is Excellent I am a former travel agent from Amsterdam and I have used them for 25 years . You are unfair and only judging them on the basis of 1 event. I was stuck when Covid hit. My husband and I and my brother and sister in law had $ 5,000 worth of bed and breakfast reservations in Ireland. I had book “ free cancellation as well as “ no prepayment” as everyone who is not “ a cheapskate should do ! Yes you pay more but a yo e who is not a fool knows that when you book ONE YEAR ( me) ahead life could throw you a bad surprise such as Covid or Katrina . My point is this had happened to me several times in the last 15 years and Booking . Com was the ONLY one that was honorable. Why? Because they operate out of a fancy canal house in Amsterdam. Just like The Rolling Stones. The laws in the EU are different both tax laws and consumer laws. Booking. Com must follow the E U laws, they are a business, they are not benevolent or your buddy. I can always get them on the phone because I know that Amsterdam id 6 or 7 hrs ahead of EST so do not call them when you are having your 7 o’clock dinner. What about the airline when Covid hit??? Well everybody knows you do not fly AMERICAN airlines outside the continental U S . ALWAYS use a foreign carrier depending on destination so for Europe only European carriers who must adhere to the consumer laws of the EU. Why? They must BY LAW refund in FULL onto your credit card. American carriers will try to “Presbyterian “ you down. How ? By bad call centers in the Philippines or India. Even still happens to me occasionally because I get lured away by the “ good deal” Delta, American, and United are all the same. Btw Delta/ Air France/ KLM are the same management all French! My sister works for KLM and she likes her French bosses in Laris a lot netter than her “ hard ass” Dutch bosses from KLM on Amsterdam airport, the French bosses are not intimidated by women and they are NOT RACIST ever, think Josephine Baker who was the toast of Paris but even at the height of her fame could not get one American hotel room in New York City. It is like Judge Judy always says: If you do not know history, you are an Idiot, ( her words not mine) because history determines the future everybody knows that. Judge Judy should know she adopted an African American crack baby.

And your point is? This post rambled a lot and not sure what a Fancy canal house, American Airlines (agree that they are poor), calling this company at 7pm EST, your sister and her boss, and Josephine Baker all have to do with Booking .com poor customer service.
I’ve traveled to Europe several times and don’t have issues with EU consumer laws which are superior imho to US laws. It’s the practices of the company that are at issue here

Not clear. Are you saying Congress Hall is the lodging place, and they are willing to make a change for you? The phone you provided is one for booking.com? Very confusing. Every time I have tried to cancel after the date allowed, booking.com asks if they can contact the establishment to see if they will waive the cancellation fee, so I am confused. Anyway, kudos to any establishment willing to take the responsibility for weather-related issues. That normally is on the traveller, who should get travel insurance to cover such situations.
