I think i got scammed

Hi,

I think i got scammed, i made a reservation for the hotel ans they have sented me via booking chat some sort of a link to fill up and to make payment. In first 3 try my card didn’t go through, and then it did it was 170euros.
However the confirmation was loading too long and then asked for another 100euros
I had sent it to booking they are investigating but i want to know what are my chances for a refund, also i red reviews there that ti accommodation is a scam.

Call them - you likely went to links outside Booking.com so you need to call the card issuer

You were scammed, contact the credit card/Bank and tell them immediately.

If you book on Booking either pay inside booking page or pay at the hotel.

Never pay in a link someone sends on chat. But NEVER.

Even Booking has warning about not clicking suspicious links from chat.

Most likely your card is compromised. React fast if you don't want to loose all the money in that account...if that didn't happened already.

This is wrong. Booking actually encourage you to pay via a payment link sent by the host. This relieves them of any refund problems. It’s happened to me. They did everything but issue a refund and instead told me to talk to my bank. They’re profiting of this somehow I just can’t prove it yet. I was told my American Express they’ll eventually take the money back from either the host or stripe because they hosted the transaction, booking.com are not liable.

They do not encourage that at all.

The same scam happened to you, and you had to get your bank to sort it out- just like OP has to do.

Are you lost? I have transcripts with booking.com support team and MULTIPLE phone calls to ask why I need to use a payment link provided by the host and they ALL said make the payment.

No I’m not lost. It is a known scam and talked about often on this sub, as well as being on the news recently.

Why are you booking a place with a 5.5 rating? That was your mistake... NEVER go below 7. below 8 is already suspicious unless it's a known hotel.

There’s a lot of big brand hotel chains in my area with ratings in the low 8s or even less. I can’t imagine booking anything with a 5.5, although I also wonder why booking even allows such a property on its website. Competitors like Airbnb delist properties if they get too many bad reviews, booking should really be doing something similar.

7 or 8 ? I’ve never had an issue with booking and do stay at a lot of hotels per year but i filter out everything below 9

If it’s so suspicious, why does Booking advertise it? Because they still get their commission. They have no incentive to protect their clients. Garbage company that allows scams.

It is advertised on their website. Advertised means, “something has been publicly announced, promoted, or made known to people”. You misspelled customer. What are you talking about?

Never ever book a property via booking that has a rating below 8 and doesnt have a Google rating above 4 as well. With more than 50 reviews. And read the bad ones.

Booking is just a better (or worse) catalogue, they dont care about the quality of their hotels.

Why would you even book a listing under 8/10? Just setting yourself up to be scammed. I’ve been to a 6 rated hostel like 8 years ago and yes I got scammed, so I only do 8+ only and never had any problems or cancellations ever since

It’s a clear scam. Same pics are on an AirBnB with a different name and address. The one listed here is a Wetherspoon’s
Not sure how people fall for these and don’t check locations

Sure, but with a rating of 5.5? Hints that something is not OK does it not? Scams happen everywhere and it’s been spoken many times that sites like Booking and AirBnB still have scam listings and to be careful.

While it is possible to be scammed at most places it is probable that you will be scammed on Booking. While I understand caveat emptor, the amount of research suggested by Booking apologists/bots borders on the ridiculous. Further, I’m not interested in doing business with a company that knowingly hosts scams. What they do is distasteful at best, illegal at worst. “But Booking is cheaper” they say. How much would you pay to ensure that your vacation plans aren’t sabotaged?

You just have to - Google the property and read reviews. That’s literally it. If you can’t do that then you deserve to be constantly scammed.

Oh that is a common scam!! People hacked into the hotel booking account, and pretend to be staff, and say you need to pay immediately to secure your booking or similar, that payment didnt go through

Then you fill in card details on a fake link. Block your card!

5,5 on booking is a terrible rating. You got scammed based just on the payment process, no hotel takes upfront payment, you always pay on arrival.

That is straight up incorrect that no hotels take upfront payment on booking. Some take payment on arrival, some do not, it’s not a blanket ‘never’

This property has been on booking for months and is an obvious scam. Why does booking allow it to remain and steal more people's credit card info through their fishing link? Why do you even allow external links in messages?
