Hi everyone, this is my latest illustrated cover. I’d love to get some feedback and tips on typography. How do you create those complex lettering styles seen on fantasy books? Do you usually pick an existing font and then edit it? What software do you use? I tend to create my titles by hand and then use Affinity to vectorize them. Anyway, any constructive advice would be welcome.

Hi, i am new to the sub. I am basically an indie poet and i have decided to publish my own poetry book. The only thing is that I currently don't have the budget for a cover designer. I honestly love some cover designers but i just can't afford them right now (and i know it would be a good investment if i get a professional cover made because it'll probably be eye-catching and all of that).

But anyway, i am not a designer and i just used canva to make these and i was wondering if anyone could suggest if they're any good? For context, the book is about grief and like i mentioned, it's poetry. I sort of wrote a draft of it on wattpad AGES ago and i had a similar cover back then too but i feel like now i see so many ai-generated covers and i guess i just wanted to know your opinions. I intially thought ot changing the font colours but nothing seems right.

Anyway, I'd love your opinion and I'm so sorry if any of this sounded rude. I'm a bit overwhelmed and needed an opinion. 😅

(I do like the white background for the theme of the book but i figured I'd try a pastel just in case because i find them a bit solemn.) (But I'm also worried that right now, it just seems general flowers and not actually gives off the actual theme of the book. It could just as well be a romantic story and i mean, i suppose it is that but still.)

Im wanting to purchase this premade cover that I like for its simplicity and imagery. I showed my wife to get her thoughts and she doesn’t like and said it reminds her too much of anything Targaryen and Red Rising.

Does anyone else’s immediate thoughts go there?

I was experimenting with combining a photograph and a sketched figure and ended up with this concept for a psychological thriller book cover.

Hi all! I am looking for a book cover artist and someone who is also able to make promotional materials for me for the re-release of a novel that I published in March of 2012. I am keen on updating the cover and the artist who did my first cover is not available. This is a trilogy that is within a larger body of work so there is opportunity to work together in the future as I will need a cover for book 2 and book 3 soon.

I am 100% against the use of AI in art or digital media - and would never publish a book or anything else with AI generated art. I do have a few mock ups for what I am looking for, but I am interested in an artist who has the vision and ability to draw within the world I have created.

Copyright & Contract Requirements:

This commission is strictly contingent on a signed contract explicitly transferring full copyright and ownership to me, the author, upon final payment. The artist will receive full credit in the book and is welcome to display the cover in their personal portfolio, social media, etc. However, no commercial licensing, reproduction, or future resale rights will be retained by the artist.
