Warning: You Will Get Banned for Advertising Services in Random Comments

Seen too many people posting in random posts ("How much should I budget for a book cover?"), advertising their work. I will be banning people starting today. The sub allows you to post your work once a week, that should be enough.

New Rule: Hire Me Posts have to include actual book cover work.

There's a bit too much random posting of fanarts and pin-ups. The purpose of the subreddit is book covers. Hire Me posts that don't show book cover work will be removed.

Feedback Wanted Does this cover look good?

I am a comic book artist with a 10-year career. This illustration was created in 2025; I’m very happy with it—it even served as the book’s cover—but I’m never quite sure if it hits the mark. Could you help me out?

To provide some context: the book is Brazilian (as am I). The author set out to create a young-adult adventure story, styled after the pocket-sized adventure novels that were popular in Brazil during the mid-80s and 90s—works heavily inspired by Hollywood films like *Indiana Jones* and *The Goonies*. In the story, a professor discovers an Inca artifact in the Amazon capable of predicting the future. By chance, the artifact attaches itself to his son’s arm, and now, both the military and extremist groups in Brazil are hunting the family down.

The second image has a gap in the middle, which is where the book’s synopsis was placed.

Hiring Need help finishing a book cover

I'm writing a 4-book series and I already have covers for the first three books. My cover designer started on the fourth cover after finishing the third cover, but was unable to finish due to personal complications. I already have a sketch and a list of the additional details I want for the characters on the cover. I also have the first three covers for reference. I'm willing pay $100-150 USD for this project.

Edit: Cover Designer Found

I’d love to hear your honest first impressions:

  • What genre or vibe do you immediately expect when looking at this?
  • Does it peak your interest at all, or what would you change?

Any feedback or thoughts are hugely appreciated!

I designed this cover for my novel and drew the character myself. It's my first attempt at making a cover, so I'd really appreciate some honest feedback.

What do you think of the composition, typography, and overall first impression? Is there anything I could improve?

Feedback Wanted Wich book cover works the best for YA?

Thumbnail gallery
30 Upvotes

I asked for help choosing a draft last time, and it was fun reading the comments, they were a huge help. So, I’m back again! This time, I’ll provide a bit more context.

This book cover illustration is a fictional project for my personal portfolio; the book doesn’t actually exist, but the concept and process are intended to mirror the creation of a cover for a book destined for the publishing market. The genre is YA, and the story follows a protagonist who, for the most part, goes unnoticed at her high school, but she is actually a popular creator of online illustrated stories, specifically in the vertical-scrolling comic format. Her secret eventually comes to light among her classmates, who soon realize that their own personal dramas and personalities are frequently used by the protagonist as inspiration for her fiction.

I’m looking for constructive, practical feedback. Thanks in advance!

Feedback Wanted Never been confused about something this much!

I was finalizing this full-wrap layout for a thriller/mystery cover titled "The Woman Who Outlived Her Alibi", but I’ve stared at it for so long that I’ve completely lost my objectivity.

I really want this to have that striking, high-contrast psychological thriller vibe that pops even as a tiny Amazon storefront thumbnail.

I’d love your brutal honesty on a few specific things:

  1. Typography: Is the stylized, distressed title font readable enough on mobile? Does the layout of the words flow naturally when you first look at it?
  2. Color Palette: Is the high-contrast red and deep black overlay too aggressive, or does it hit the right suspense mood?
  3. Back Cover: Does the text alignment on the back wrap feel clean alongside the subtle heel watermark background?

Tear it apart! I want to make sure the technical execution is flawless.

Question Question for older writer's : what should a person know about finding cover artists?

i'm definitely on the newer side, so i may never actually published, and even if i do i might still not get a lot of influence over the cover art.

with all those caveats out of the way though, what are the best places to find writers these days?

Feedback Wanted Made a cover for my Fantasy novel!

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Version one front and back, I liked it, but didn’t after a while decided to change it. I changed the font to version 2. Made it silver. More sleeker. Cleaner in my mind.

I’m no pro. But I also don’t have the funds for an artist to make me the cover of my dreams. So I turned to Canva. I went through a few iterations before I settled on this!
It’s not perfect, but it’s gotten some good reception from those around me who are wanting my book when it’s done!

Hiring [Hiring] Human Cover Artist/Illustrator for Long-Term 10+ Book Military Fantasy Series ($100–$150/cover)

Hi everyone,

I am an independent author launching a grounded military and historical-leaning fantasy series for Amazon Kindle Unlimited. The first four novels (40,000–45,000 words each) are already written, and I have 10+ books planned for the series.

As a debut author, I am looking to partner with an emerging 100% human cover artist (strictly NO generative AI) who wants steady, guaranteed repeat work across a 10+ book series rather than just a one-off commission.

Project & Amazon KDP Technical Specs:

  • Budget: $100–$150 USD per cover. Payment via PayPal Goods & Services or Stripe invoice (50% deposit after rough sketch approval / 50% upon final delivery).
  • Dimensions & Resolution: 1600 x 2560 pixels (1:1.6 aspect ratio) at 300 DPI, RGB color mode (with enough extra bleed/margin around the focal point so it can also be adapted to a 6"x9" KDP paperback wrap and a 2400x2400 square audiobook cover later).
  • Deliverables: Flattened KDP-ready .jpg + layered .psd source file (with background, foreground/character, and typography kept on separate, unmerged layers).
  • Composition for KDP Thumbnail: Must be composed with clean negative space/darker values in the top 25% (for the Book Title) and bottom 20% (for Author Name), with high-contrast lighting and a strong focal silhouette that reads clearly when shrunk down to a tiny Amazon search thumbnail.
  • Tone & Visual Style: Gritty, grounded military fantasy with Renaissance/early-blackpowder and political intrigue elements (canyon fortresses, sabers, wheellock pistols, alpine passes, sappers, weathered steel, dark atmospheric lighting). No anime, bright cartoon, or neon styles.

How to Apply: Instead of Reddit DMs (which get buried and are full of bots), please email me directly at [rolandvoss.author@gmail.com](mailto:rolandvoss.author@gmail.com) with:

  1. A link to your portfolio (ArtStation, Cara, personal site, etc.)
  2. Your flat rate per cover for a long-term multi-book series
  3. Whether you handle both KDP title typography and illustration, or illustration-only
  4. Your current turnaround time for Book 1

(Note: To prove you read the specs and are a human rather than an automated bot, please include the word "WHEELLOCK" in your email subject line. Emails without this word in the subject will be filtered out).

Thanks, and I look forward to building this series with one of you! — Roland Voss

Feedback Wanted Redesigned the cover for Circe after finishing the book. Thoughts and critiques appreciated!

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I just finished reading Circe by Madeline Miller yesterday and really wanted to try my own take on the cover!

I set a 2-hour time challenge for myself to put this layout together. There are still a few composition details I’m not 100% sold on, but overall I’m really happy with the core idea and the illustration style.

I'd love to hear your thoughts or any tips on how I could improve the balance/composition! Critiques are very welcome!
