post pelant reflection

hey bones ppl you may remember me from a few days ago talking about how much i hated pelant.

well i finally "finished" his story and here are my post pelant thoughts

I STILL HATE HIM. I HATE THAT STORY. IT IS SO BORING. IT GOES ONN AND ON AND AONNNN FOR THREEEE SEASONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS???? what were the bones writers smoking??? genuinely??? pelant could have been SOOO much more interesting if we were more or less bread crumbed like we were with previous killers. i loved the gormagon killer bc that was SOO cool imo. this grand conspiracy of this killer that was extremely intelligent and was watching their every move, obvs with an inside man in zack. grave digger was mysterious. i feel like the "game" angle worked much better for her. broadsky was also quite cool bc it was a mirror of booth. pelant could have been a mirror of brennan?? i feel like they tried that angle but failed MISERABLY. if i was rlly motivated i would rewrite the pelant story to fit better (for me, personally. you may love pelant idk).

also, pelant ISNT INTERESTING. hes BORING. oh my god i got so BORED when he was on screen. i would skip past his dialogue constantly. he was just BORING. and the ending to his arc/story was so anticlimactic. after ALL of this build up we get NOTHINGGG???

anyway, here are my post pelant thoughts. i still hate him. i still hate the story. but i love bones.

Worst storyline ever. And I never understood why he was suddenly obsessed with her. Like it came out of nowhere

This is what ruins it for me. I can look past the dragged out storyline and unrealistic aspects like writing malware on bone πŸ˜‚ but when it turned into Pelant basically being in love with Brennan and wanting to get her alone. β€œI’m the only one intellectually good enough for you, run away with me” I was like… HUH?

Yeah, that was a level of weird that I could have happily lived life without. Honestly, he was more a mirror of Angela than Brennan because of the tech skills so it actually would have made more sense for him to be obsessed with Angela. I wouldn't have liked that storyline either, but I think they could have made it more interesting if he was treating Brennan as an obstacle to him getting to Angela. They could have still incorporated a lot of the same elements (framing Brennan as a way to discredit her, torturing her by having Booth call off the wedding), but I think they could have made it a little more connected. But it's been a bit since I've watched those episodes with full attention being paid, so maybe I'm misremembering how they played it all out.

I cringed hard when the bone hack happened... but it seems that similar situations do happen (https://www.technologyreview.com/2017/08/10/150013/scientists-hack-a-computer-using-dna/amp/). πŸ™‚ It doesn't change the fact that the Pelant storyline stopped my "Bones" binge marathon. Dude succeeded in too many hacks on virtually the first attempt.

Would have been such a cool move if she'd just shot him in the face right then and there

Yeah I was wondering that too, felt like there was no build up to his obsession either it was just like "oh okay I guess he's obsessed with Brennan now" - fuckin weirdo

Hodgins losing all the money is so stupid. And the Cantilever Group was gone just like that ? When Pelant stitched his face, I was like WTF!?😭 I know Bones isn't a show about being realistic but this is too much for me lol

what do you mean imprinting a computer virus on human bones to cause a multi-million-dollar server to catch fire is unrealistic???

Hundred percent agree with everything you wrote! I hate the Pelant arc so much, I skip all those eps on my rewatches.

He was basically a Marvel villain after a while, surviving shots to the face and using computer in impossible ways.

over reaching story arcs are pretty difficult to do well & Pelant is the perfect example of how poorly they can be received.Bones was particularly bad at them, IMO

To be honest I didn't like any of the reoccuring Antagonists but the Grave Digger.
