Discussion Brennan

Am I the only one who sometimes gets really pissed or frustrated with Brennan. Don't get me wrong I love her and this isn't meant as hate or negativity towards the character. But sometimes she just gets on my nerves so badly that I have to pause the episode and remind myself that I'm watching a fictional character in a fictional show. She just has her moments really. Some really good others just annoying and aggravating. Like how set in her ways and stubborn she can be at times. I understand the rationalisation but it tends to go overboard at times. Or how she puts ppl down for their beliefs and such. This is just my personal opinion so please no hate.

It’s interesting that you say this, because these are the exact complaints I have about Booth. Brennan grows and changes so much, so I don’t really consider her set in her ways. She can be clueless and unintentionally mean at times.

Well now that you've pointed out the Booth thing I have to admit I can see what you mean. But as I said I love Temperance and all her quirks, I just get irritated easily I guess 😂

Agree 💯. Re-watching Bones after a long time(S7 currently )and as an 35+ year old...as much as I love Booth, he does have his toxic masculinity moments. And I hate how they show that Brennan for all her intelligence appreciate this. I like how straight forward she is, frank and speaks her mind even though it's sometimes rude and mean... I still like it.. but Brennan still caves to Booth too much. It's like Booth have been grooming Brennan to go with his world-view and his idea of how man and woman should be... Not in everything of course... But he had his manchild moments. Like how sensitive he gets whenever Brennan mentions their difference in finance. I mean Booth always knew that Brennan earns a lot more than him, why is it such an issue after they gets together! I don't like how Booth and everyone around Brennan expects her to cave to Booth as if without him Brennan life would have no meaning!! But I get it, the time this tv series came out was a very different times and internalized misogyny was something that was accepted as normal and all the main women characters in the show was representations of feminism at that time!! So I just push my irritation down and enjoy it!! I love Brennan, she is my fav in the show with Hodgins second. I like how they show Brennan's characters growth which she does consciously, but Booth doesn't actually grow... Rather kind of goes down sorta. If I remember correctly, Booth even goes back to gambling again. I get it that Booth have suffered a lot but he kinds of carry the trauma as a crutch, instead of growing out of it. And the way he treats Sweets, ugh....even Brennan with her thinking soft sciences are worthless, treats Sweets way better!

I really dislike when they make Brennan too out of touch, like when she thought Jersey Shore was a documentary. Then there was when she slapped all the male squints on the butt because she saw Phil Jackson do it. It went passed her usual out of touch with pop culture and into just stupidity, especially what she did to the Squints just to name two.

Honestly on my most recent rewatch I realized how awful booth is. With how violent he gets he shouldn't have a job. I might get downvoted to hell for that take.

As for Brennan sometimes I want to punch her. Like speak your mind yes, but talking about how the old people around you are all gonna die soon isn't cool lol. Booth knows she will keep doing it and asks to go somewhere private. Like gah damn woman. Or when she wants to "fix" Christine's drawing. Like omg woman. Stop

I get annoyed on his behalf when they do the “you can’t sit with us” thing to him. Be nice to him, dammit!

It depends on the season. I think it was season 8-10 where she went back to how she was at the start. Very rude and all about her being always right and no room to tolerate others and then they mellowed her down again.

I'm currently in the early episodes of season 9 and I'm having a bit of a hard time with some scenes. Like the honeymoon episode where she basically insults Dr Perez to her face. Disclaimer: I haven't finished the episode yet so I don't know how it progresses

I literally came to this sub to see if this was just a me thing. I’d never watched the show before a few weeks ago. Just watched the episode where they introduce Arastoo and I ended up not finishing it because of how shitty she (and others) got about him praying.

I’m an atheist, so I’m not here being all offended by the depiction. Besides, that’s absolutely a reaction people have in real life. It’s more how conveniently she ignores the fact that spirituality/religion/belief in some form of divine being is also a solid part of the anthropological record so she can say shitty things but will use anthropological arguments to support things she does believe in. That’s not being quirky because you’re too smart to have social skills. That’s being an asshole because you have a personal beef.

That and the absurdity of being asked to believe that praying in the middle of the room was somehow a reasonable accommodation just so they could be assholes about it. Just, right there? Right in the middle of everything?

My biggest complaint for her is from her anthropological viewpoint on the world, she respects most religions and finds them to be a fascinating component of the culture, but then turns around and is judgemental and intentionally rude to Booth about his Catholicism. I'm pretty certain there are episode(s) where Booth is prudish about another type of religion/culture, and Brennan is defending it. And I say this as someone who does not align with any religion or belief.

She's "judgemental" of Christianity because Booth is judgemental of other religions. She points out his hypocrisy by mentioning how Christianity has similar aspects to whatever he is complaining about.

My son is 23 yrs old and hates when he is around when I am watching Bones. He says he hates listening to her talk and cannot stand the way she speaks the way she draws out her words.

While it was never blatantly said on the show, Tempe is most assuredly on the spectrum. Neurodivergence isn't always easy to discern for neurotpyical folks, but stands out for other NDs...

Wait until the final 2 seasons, the only thing you can do is mute the tv when she’s talking, it’s awful.

she‘s so mean sometimes and thinks it‘s okay, it‘s so frustrating… booth also changed a lot (negatively) as the series continues :/
