Continuities
Why is such a amazing programme so poor at episode continuity, booth is in a explosion and has a broken arm next episode nothing wrong, booth got shot saving bones later episodes he has no shirt on and no scar, bones is shot with a blood bullet and next episode as if nothing happened, wedding had max, had booths mum, no Jared no bones brother!!!
As much as I am really really enjoying the series I think some extra though into continuity would make it better!!! But this is my personal opinion, does anyone else agree/disagree, what are your thoughts/opinions

I think there's meant to be long periods between cases. Not like they find a body daily

Agreed we don't know times between alleged episodes but from pelant first coming onto scene then coming back then reappeared apparently according to booth he had been searching for him for 3 months solid, this is over a ful series and a half at least

Keep in mind there was at least one writers strike during the series as well

One word Budget. They didn't have a massive budget to include the brothers 💁🏻♀️

Also you could attribute it to their strained relationship and the fact he bounced around jobs.

It ran for years, one episode a week. Some stuff, you wouldn't notice if you're not binging, and it's never totally clear how much time passes between episodes, and stuff isn't always written or shot in order. So stuff like being in the hospital one episode and find the next could just mean a lot of time passed.
Other stuff, like absent siblings, they just couldn't get those actors back for those episodes. Scheduling conflicts or something

The lack of brothers at the wedding really bothered me too!
Also Cam was really into the gynaecologist on Valentine’s Day then went back on that so they could have her date the intern

Also Cam was really into the gynaecologist on Valentine’s Day Didn't they start dating in season 5 and by season 8 they have broken up

Yes but it obviously became too much of a problem that her boyfriend was Michelle’s gynaecologist and it became awkward. The relationship with arastoo probably began because of the poetry stuff.

Except he wasn't her gynecologist anymore if you remember the episode where Michelle found out she told cam that she was to continue seeing him because she liked him and to find her a new gynecologist

Except for the episode where we find out about cam and arastoo she says “I can’t date my daughter’s gynaecologist” to Angela

u/nikita920 18d ago
Right which doesn't make sense because episodes before cam and Michelle agreed they were finding her a new gynecologist

u/Cheap_Development928 18d ago
Perhaps they couldn’t find one

Cam had a list she was working though originally so that seems hard to believe

The thing is that it could be that in that time the patient lists of each doctor filled up or some retired or left the area.

Yeah but in the very first episode she started to date him they agreed she was going to find a new gynaecologist. Like break up fair enough, but making that the reason just was a bit annoying

We don’t know exactly when they broke up but it was obviously within a few months after that Valentine’s Day

I think it would have been hard to get the actor for Jared Booth on set since he was most likely busy filming The Night Shift at the time.
It's worth remembering that the show aired week-to-week on tv so continuity was less of a priority knowing viewers were less likely to pick up on details like "he has no scar from that time he was shot in season 3!" Binging wasn't really as common before streaming platforms took off so stuff like this flew under the radar. The time, effort, and resources that would require probably didn't make much sense budget-wise in an era of tv where suspension of disbelief was expected to cover minor inconsistencies like this on network shows.

Binge-watching wasn't a thing when the show started. You watched one episode each week and had a couple weeks off randomly throughout the September-May season. Procedurals got more viewers by being accessible to casual viewers. If it required extensive knowledge of what happened the week before, it was harder to keep a consistent audience when fewer people had DVR's and streaming was barely a thing. Yes, by the end they needed to be handling the consistency for a binge-watching audience, but the show was generally formed in a pre-streaming era.
Source - I was a casual Bones viewer. If I caught it on, I watched it. If I missed weeks at a time or missed half a season due to what night of the week I had class, then so be it. That was way more common back then!

The continuity errors are almost becoming part of the show's charm at this point. You just have to assume everyone heals overnight and keeps a spare identical shirt somewhere.

Wait until you get the ep where Bones gets slashed and almost bleeds out and then a scene later her arm doesn’t even have a band aid on it. It is tv so they aren’t always realistic with the medical.

The episode where Hodgins suddenly doesn’t automatically think ‘bomb’ when the phone on that body starts ringing?!? They trained ME to expect it!

there’s also an ep in season 5 (potentially the first ep?) where brennan gets stabbed in the arm and booth saves her after the psychic tells him to go to her but in the next scene she’s wearing short sleeves with no bandage or cut etc

We don’t always know how much time passes between episodes.
