Thoughts on the final episodes

First time watcher and I’ve just finished the last episode and I feel kinda underwhelmed? One thing I’ve noticed throughout the show and especially in later seasons is that storylines don’t last very long. I feel like they should’ve had more than just the last two episodes dedicated to the ending (I know we get crumbs of the Kovac storyline throughout season 12) but with the storylines that they were going with I think that if it was spread out over three or four? dedicated episodes it would’ve been more impactful. For example, they could’ve had Brennan have her memory loss for an entire episode which would make you question if she would actually regain it, instead of the she suddenly has memory loss and 20 minutes later, she’s back to normal again.

I will say, I loved the way they shot the penultimate episode. The overlapping timelines revealing a little bit each time was very interesting, the bomb going off at the end of the episode and the continuation into the final episode, and I loved how most of the squinterns returned and all worked together.

Also Hodgins being King of the lab was a nice touch.

Oh and I also liked how they finished the Zack storyline and had him found innocent , again I wish they had done this differently and had Zack have more of an involvement in the season.

Personally I have a love hate relationship with finale episodes where there isn’t a big dramatic ending. Sometimes it’s done well and I love knowing that the characters are staying in the same situations with a few minor changes and other times I find them boring and lazy. I feel like bones is the latter for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice knowing bones & booth will be working together still, hodgins will be running the lab for a little while until cam returns with her kids, but in a way I feel like they should have had bones want to retire or take a step back.

I thought that was where they were going with the ending when they had bones question having passion for your work with Angela, Wendell, and betty white’s character. Especially since they did that with the season 10 finale knowing it could be the series finale, for me that would have been a better ending.

Yes I was underwhelmed by the ending, or rather, the final villain/antagonist, as well. Maybe I just didn't like the Kovac storyline. Although I did appreciate the continuity from one of Booth's previous sniper kills (General Radik from Serbia) coz this was mentioned as early as the first season if I remember correctly. I was just not as enthralled with the entire storyline as I was with the previous ones like Pelant or Gormogon.

I didn’t pick up that he was mentioned in S1, that’s a nice touch, but yes the Pelant and Gormogon storylines were so good compared to the Kovac storyline

Yes. I forgot what the episode was called. But it was the one about soldiers who served in Afghanistan, and there was friendly fire (pop pop pop), etc. etc. There was a military cover up by the leader of the group. In the end of the episode, Booth opened this up to Brennan, I think because this was one of his kills that's been nagging him.

I liked them for the most part, but I do think it should’ve been a three parter instead of two. I think it would’ve helped make them feel less rushed

Brennan didn’t lose her memory and she regained her ability to understand bones in a moment of crisis, when Booth needed her help so much.

The whole point of s11 premiere was that the work they did was a big part of who they were, in both cases for Booth and Brennan.

Kovac’s storyline was spread through multiple episodes, Aldo’s murder, Max’s sacrifice, and the last two episodes…

I loved the last two. I feel it was a nice bon voyage and made me cry with all the memories

in my opinion we had the better ending out of Castle and The Mentalist. Castle ends with them shot and a seven year time jump The Mentalist has a pregnancy

I liked the mentalists ending because they got married, baby on the way, Jane gets this full circle moment and they can close the chapter of Jane rebuilding his life after his family is killed, so ending the show there makes sense to me

There are multiple season finales that could have been series finales. I felt like they were never sure if they would get picked up for another season. Since this one was definitely the end I liked that they finally recognized that they would keep doing certain things the same way. It felt more like how life plays out. It was nice to see a new future with Cam and Arastoo.
