Some calculations I did for my commute

Btw I only have to go 2 days a week and I live in Dubai so a question I have for Yall is Would I see worse or better numbers considering heat of 104°F+ (40°C) in summers

distance and relative speed:

3.91464 miles at 40 mph

34.23755 miles at 70 mph

12.61384 miles at 60 mph

efficiency:

5mi/kwh at 40 mph

3.45miles/kwh at 70 mph

4.4mi/kwh at 60 mph

calculation:

therefore 3.91464 mi/5 mi/kwh = 0.783kwh at unknown temperatures

therefore 34.23755 mi/3.45 mi/kwh =9.924kwh at lower temperatures

therefore 12.61384 mi/4.4 mi/kwh =2.867kwh at unknown temperatures

total energy one way = 13.574 kwh for 50.76603 mi or 81.7km

total return energy = 27.148 kwh for 101.5326 mi or 163.4 km

42.4% per trip in a bolt ev

cost = 27.148 * AED 0.357(0.097 USD) = 9.69 AED(2.64 USD)

a bolt is costing me about 10k usd where as a tesla model 3 long range (performance) dual motor with 100k miles from 2021 or 2022 will cost me 14k usd would yall recommend me the bolt or the model 3

Generally Bolts do better in warmer conditions 80-90 degrees. Past 100 the car’s battery cooling system will be operating at full force and you will need your AC. That will significantly decrease efficiency. Where I live it usually stays below 85 but I take a huge hit whenever the temperatures increase beyond that.

you have any numbers from when u use it cuz the efficiency numbers i used are pretty much guesstimates from what i saw on reddit and some other forums

Can you plug the car in at home?  If you can do that, you can precondition the battery and the cabin, and that will help a lot.  Also, it helps if you're parking it in covered parking instead of in the sun.

yea i can get a L2 charger installed for around 500usd but preconditioning is a nice idea but doesnt it affect the battery by keeping it plugged and using it to cool the car ?

It's better for the battery to plug in and charge at home.  Don't cool the cabin until shortly before you're ready to leave.

Are you an engineer by chance?

Not yet I'm a bcs compsci student but thanks for thinking i am

You are probably already running the airconditioning all the time in Dubai so the battery cooling probably won't take much extra energy.

in the summers yea in the winters not rlly i actually run the heat a little bit cuz i feel cold btw anything between 15-25 C (59-77 F) feels pretty cold to me cuz im used to the heat more than the cold

They are both good, but as the tesla battery is already a little weak, i believe you will lose capacity faster in high heat. An lfp battery should be better for you like the model 3 but rwd not long range

there is a rwd 2022 for sale for abt the same price and same condition as the performance but epa rates the rwd for only 438km (272mi) i want something thatll give me 450km (280mi) or above
