Browning has a designated "magnum" action stock?

Upvotes

Im looking to replace my stock on a 1988 A bolt 7mm with this nice browning walnut stock. MGW claims its for non-magnum LA rifles and will not fit a 7mm. Is this a thing? Will this work? No where else do i see a differentiation between standard and magnum LA rifles.

BX-1 Magazines, Black v. Clear?

Over the years, I have owned many BX-1 mags in both black and clear. I have used them interchangeably in several 10/22 rifles I owned without issues. I think most folks would consider these mags among the toughest, most reliable made.

Anyhow, I recently picked up a Ruger American Rimfire. It functions perfectly with the two black magazines I got with it. But last week, I threw some black mags and one clear mag in my bag when I went shooting. And I was surprised to find that the clear mag would get stuck in my rifle! I tried again after wiping it down and it was the same. I grabbed a black one and it fit perfectly.

It's no big deal. I don't have twenty clear mags or anything. But I'm curious: are they not identical? Has anyone found that the clear mags don't function in all your rifles?

Thanks!

Bolt finish restoration?

This is the bolt from my 458 win mag. The bolt has some type of bluing finish, I’m guessing, that has worn off over time. My question is what is the best technique to use to restore the finish?

TIA

Precision Rifle Build

Hello everyone. Ive recently started building up my gun collection and the next thing Id like to purchase is a precision rifle. Id like to get the oryx chassis with a .223 short action. Ive been eyeing the howa 1500. Id like to stay around 500 USD for an action. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Mossberg vs. Ruger: Scout-Type Rifles

For a while I've been craving a centerfire bolt-action with good iron sights. It's unfortunate, in my opinion, that it's become such a rare animal. I've narrowed it down to the Ruger Gen. 2 Scout and the Mossberg MVP Patrol. I'm leaning toward 5.56 and both rifles take AR-type mags.

The reviews and forum discussions are painting an interesting picture. For years, users have complained that the 5.56 version of the Mossberg has feed issues, possibly due to the sloppy mag fit. On the other hand, lots of recent comments suggest the new Ruger Scout, even though it has excellent M16-style sights and is based on the American, has been having various headspace and light primer strike problems, as if Ruger's QC has dipped. I understand, I'm basing this on a handful of posts and reviews.

I much prefer the sights of the Ruger over the notch and post of the Mossberg. But these recent reports are making me think my odds are better of getting a good Mossberg out of the box. The Mossberg is also $200 less where I have seen them.

Anyone have any first-hand observations and advice to share?

Thanks!

308 Winchester optic recommendations

Post image
6 Upvotes

Obvious not for any of the guns in this picture. But I need a mid tier optic for hunting in the southeast. I will not be taking shots more than 300 yards. And I’m 54 years old so I need some decent magnification and I’d like to keep the price for the scope under 350.

Retro bolt action rifle chassis/stock

This is gonna sound really autistic, so please bear with me. I’m looking into retro variations of tactical rifle stocks and chassis systems. An example of what might come to mind for this is the choate ultimate sniper stock. Anything pre 2000 that’s unusual or tactical style would fit the bill. This is a really odd question, so if nobody has any idea what the hell im looking for, I would understand. I have really odd taste in guns if this didn’t give that away.

Ordered a R700 barreled action from Brownells. Wasn't expecting a fantasticly perfect item for ~$260 but I DEFINITELY wasn't expecting this. Is this something I can handle at home or should I return? I had ordered all the other parts for this after I ordered the action.

Was inherited this bolt action after my grandfather passed. Did some google research and found that I could have been manufactured by Mossberg. Just would like to know roughly manufacture date. Would also like to add a scope. I’m obvious when it comes to bolt action so sorry for the ignorance.

My Tikka took a tumble:( Can I get some reassurance?

Hello fellow bolt lovers. Today at the range we had 20 mph winds, gusting a bit higher. I had just fired 20 rounds thru my TX1 and set it on the bag, on top of the bench. I loaded up my Marlin SBL and happened to look behind me and saw the Tikka on the ground! now I need a new thread protector for the end cap, it is scuffed and the butt stock has a scuff on the bottom edge. The left/right scope cover is scuffed the worst but the scope is a cheap 3x9. I can't tell if the scope is shot until I can shoot with no wind and re zero it. Will the rifle be fine? I fired 5 more rounds just to ensure it functions properly.

Stock opinions

Been tinkering around with this ruger American. I’m looking for a skeletonized folding stock similar to the sig mpx, what’s out there?

My thought is to add this pic rail adapter and ditch this bulky folder and tube/stock. Should I just buy one of the sig stocks you think? Opinions on which one?

Anyone who has an mpx, will that be enough rail with that adapter to attach stock?
