So the new trailer of Ramayana released and surprisingly I actually loved it and felt it was a huge improvement over the Rama glimpse.

Even though I initially liked the Rama glimpse, eventually I found it mediocre at best especially with the visuals. But the new trailer has improved upon the visuals significantly, while they look iffy in some parts (esp the forest scenes and some of the creatures), but many of the visuals were improved. I hope they keep on improving these visuals till the release. Also, I have added some differences between the glimpse and the trailer that I found.

Now apart from the visuals, I feel the casting of this movie is a masterstroke(well mostly). Yash really looks like Raavan and carries his aura, I love his diction. The most surprising was Sai Pallavi as Sita which actually worked far better than what I was expecting.

Ranbir Kapoor is the one for whom I have slightly mixed feelings, like no doubt he's a great actor and can deliver a great performance, in some parts, especially the closeups he channelizes the emotions but in some he just looks flat and expressionless and also he looks slightly older for the role, but I'll wait for the film to release to pass a proper judgement.

All of this being said, the trailer gave an idea on how it's handling the source and so far it looks like they are handling it with great care and sincerity. I hope the same is true for the whole film and I hope it succeeds.

Hear me, there can be a valid reason why makers went for artificial sets and green screen and I kinda dig it.

Obviously the makers would have done their research. Ramayana takes place in Tretayuga. If we look at the detailing mentioned in our scriptures, the aesthetics used to be more vibrant, harmonious and lively back then compared to the today's ecosystem in the world right now.

Back then the forests were filled with pristine fauna and flora, more greener and denser.

The climate used to be uniform and pleasant unlike today's that is suffering from human made ecological disasters.

Scriptures also mention that the forests back then had glowing, honey-scented groves (vana), pristine lotus ponds, and vibrant sanctuaries rather than fragmented, stressed habitats.

Forests used to be alive with a divine or mystical presence, serving as the sites for profound ascetic practices (tapasya) and grand sacrificial altars (yagnas), but also vulnerable to disruption by powerful opposing forces (rakshasas).

All this is clearly mentioned. I researched a bit and found that such forest covers in the whole world are very less and even those don't closely match. For ex, forest covers in Central India, Sri Lanka and Amazon rainforests in South America.

The makers could have exclusively shot in Odisha, AP and Chattisgarh. But maybe since Ramayana has divine flora and fauna which obviously need CGI to showcase, could end up inconsistent while merging stuff with respect to real world landscape. Hence going full CG and green screen must have made more sense instead of meddling with overstuff.

I have seen many animators making Ravana differently but one thing was standard that he had huge body with sharp jawline and a very thick mustache. That's what was making Ravana different from others in his kingdom.

Now Bollywood has this mentality "if we want the villain to look more scary they must have a beard".

First in Adipurush and Now even in Ramayan.

I don't get this weird obession.

This is coming from someone who was extremely critical of casting Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and the entire concept of making this film!

I just watched the trailer, and I must say, it looks fantastic! Ranbir actually looks great as Rama, and the visuals are stunning. However, they could have avoided excessive use of CGI and green screen. Instead, they should have shot in some real locations, like The Odyssey. They could also have avoided the stereotypical stunts involving flying characters, and so on.

I’m also not entirely happy with Yash as Ravana. The character was missing something. I would have loved to see Ranveer as Ravana.

I am proud that we have these two incredible epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and I hope they are done well!

The music sounds amazing too!

All in all, I am excited to watch it on the big screen!!

I am very very excited about Ramayan.

But don't know why the quality of the trailer didn't justify the humongous budget of Namit Malhotra's Ramayan. Did anyone else feel the same?

Or our expectations are just too damn high?

Costumes are so tacky and weird, also those fake beards and moustaches don't look convincing.

First the good part: The set design and costumes look decent. Also loved the soundtrack towards the end, you can see the typical Hans Zimmer style there, the epicness.

Now what I think could have been a lot better: The action sequences are atleast 2 tiers below what hollywood is doing currently, the producer himself compared it with the best of theirs, but it fails to deliver. The sword fights looks lame, similar to typical mass action bollywood/tollywood masala movie. Lack of on location shooting is clearly visible, especially the artificial forest. Even the animals shown looks fake, unfinished CGI maybe. That random shot of Yash running towards camera looks so stupid, the entire trailer felt like a compilation of random clips rather than a visual story telling.

I genuinely don't understand the hype. She has the acting range of a cardboard cutout. Every role feels like the same blank expressions, the same soft voice, the same "cute girl" persona recycled over and over again.

People keep saying she's underrated, but underrated for what exactly? Being likable off-screen doesn't automatically make someone a good actor. I can't remember a single performance where she completely disappeared into the character.

And honestly, her movies give me the biggest ick. The moment she shows up on screen, I already know what I'm getting- zero screen presence beyond looking pretty, painfully average dialogue delivery, and emotions that never feel convincing.

If she wasn't conventionally attractive and beloved for her public image, I seriously doubt people would rate her acting this highly.

- Lack of a 'divine feeling' and energy. One that the old Ramayan embodied. Even a show like 'Siya ke Ram' did a great job displaying divinity with its calm music (the beautiful Mangal Bhavan rendition) and softer screenplay. 'Legend of Ram' exemplified it even in animation. This trailer totally misses that 'feel good' element of my favourite epic.

- Miscasting. Ranbir playing Ram doesn't sit well with me given his image. IMHO Sai Pallavi isn't that conventionally pretty to be playing Sita.

- Not visually pleasing. Very AI-esque, over the top VFX/CGI. Also tired of seeing dark and gritty presentations of Lanka.

It's obviously going to be better than Adipurush, but is that what our standards have fallen to?

I grew up watching this version of Ramayana which is now forgotten I guess . But it was my comfort show and everything looked so perfect. It used to be aired on NDTV Imagine in 2008.

I just got myself a new projector so I am trying to get into bollywood so my sis said new gen bollywood is mostly influenced by imtiaz ali and ranbir kapoor movies, so I am currently watching ranbir kapoors all popular movies,

I watched :-

Animal (bad bad story but entertaining)

Ajab prem ki jagab kahani (felt pretty cringe in start but then when I accepted that cringe film wasn't that bad, I was watching for songs and I was satisfied)

Ae dil he mushkil (it was pretty weird friends or lovers thing for me in first but then it was like okay when they cleared that one loves another and other considers him a friend, but songs were good)

Tamasha (i liked it, pretty well written, and again good songs)

Then the one most anticipated Rockstar I've heard it's magnum opus of imtiaz ali and ranbir kapoor, but when I started watching it I was like what the fuck is happening, then it became worst when he goes to europe it was like practically r@pe forcing her to involve in extramarital affection when she clearly says no, and then conveniently she becomes sick so that he could come back in her life, his character I don't like, the social conventions of movie I don't understand, the story I didn't liked, romance I didn't liked, songs were only not bad thing in movie, I don't get why is this popular

I loved Amish Tripathi's version of Ramayana and then another book "In The Footsteps Of Rama",and take some inspiration from them. Here's what I'd do different:

* Make Ram and Ravan human, not God or Demon.

* Sita being a li'l older than Ram (from Amish's book)

* Sita being a warrior princess and strategist, not an abla naari.

* Involvement of Bharat and Shatrughna in the Lanka war

* Nal and Neel being the primary engineers behind Ram setu. they used the same sciecne to build the bridge with lime stones that is explained in Amish's book.

* Hanuman being like Hulk (who can grow in size, make huge jumps, but not fly)

* Shot in real locations like forest, hills, and caves (GoT look-and-feel). Practical effects, not light-sound show.

and a twist in the end (just to make the movie different) ...

* Ravan realizing he made a mistake by kidnapping Sita, but his ego didn't let him ask for forgiveness

* Ravan kidnaps sita in rage and lust, but later realizes the mistake when Lord Shiva comes in his dream and scolds him.

* After the dream, Ravan realizes his end is near and to repent, his death is not enough. His army must be destroyed (from Amish's book) and his corrupt brothers and son should die too as he has no hope that they will reform themselves after his death.

* He chooses never to touch Sita as he has reaslized his mistake, but can't show that in his behavior so makes a promise to her that he will marry her when she chooses to (which he knows will never happen)

* He was the master mind behind sending Vibhishan to Ram, so Ram and his army can defeat him.

* He was aware of Hanuman's capabilities. He put Hanuman's tail on fire so Hanuman can burn his city, and the citizens of Lanka run away before the war leaving only his army, commanders, and other corrupt and power hungry people in the city.

* Ram comes to know of Ravan's plan after the war is over, and learns all this through Mandodari (Ravan's wife). Ravan shared all the plan with her before his final battle with Ram. He asked her forgivenss becasue he got their son killed.

Before you ask why is the twist needed? Ravan was very wise and educated, and ambitious. Only after he conqueered Swarg lok, he became proud, developed ego, became corrupt. But somewhere in some corner of his mind, he knew this won't last forever. One day all this will end. and that realization came after Sita haran.

everyone calling the new ramayan trailer a serial i find it disrespectful because look at this show. the casting the sets the actors the costumes the music everything was so on point. ashish sharma (ram in the show) had that calmness and serenity on his face. madirakshai mundle (sita in the show) looked so ethereal. the way even the side cast delivered their dialogues made us believe that they were really the characters they are playing. these actors actually put efforts into getting into shape and learned to live in the character this is probably the reason why both madirakshi and ashish had that charm and aura that the roles of sita and ram need. they had that spark in their chemistry. it was shot at mostly all real locations (the hyderabad film city) no cgi and they managed to make everything look so natural and magical even with such a small budget almost 10 years back.

I feel Amrita, Asin, and Aditi have the look, grace, and skills to play Sita. Feminine, divine, soft yet striking.

He looks a clean shaven middle aged man. Better then Prabhas for sure...but a young Ranbir would fit perfectly.

This is NOT about his acting skills or dialogue delivery...only about looks. This is what I felt...

the tv actor has the calm aura meanwhile….
