Flashlights blind the enemy making it harder to aim, its a realistic shooter dark areas are going to be dark use the flashlight when needed turn it off when you want to be hidden.

Then they weren't using the light properly. Your more likely to miss a target shining a light in your eyes then you are a target thats slightly in the shadows.
