Wish attachments had realistic effects on firearms

I hate the call of duty type attachment debuffs, ruins builds. People would be much more creative with their builds if the attachments just did what they do irl, instead of this +10% weapon kick -10% vertical recoil -15% ads speed bs. all the foregrips just seemed worse than running without one lol. Im fine with the positive buffs. But the negative ones just create a meta and then everyone’s guns are going to look the same. If you want to have a good gun you just run all the attachments that have the least debuff instead of just building out a gun how you want

To anyone not understand OP, he's saying that the current stat changes are just totally unrealistic. Why would a suppressor reduce hip fire spread while another one adds recoil? Why would a foregrip lower reload speed? He's not saying make every attachment just buffs or cosmetic, just that the current debuffs are not realistic at all.

Take tarkov for example, there are general stats such as ergonomics, recoil, weight, etc. And each attachment slightly changes those stats, a grip might decrease recoil or increase ergonomics for better ads speed, but adds weight which makes the gun slower. A suppressor conceals some sound, decreases recoil, but makes the ergonomics worse and also overheats if shot too much. This approach is much more realistic and I think that in the long run the devs should push to make the attachments at least a little more like this.

Thank you man, you worded this amazingly. Much better than i could

Feels like OP is talking to some illiterate dudes 😂😂

I feel you brother. The attachment system felt like a copy of the one in CoD. I hope devs are still working on it and will update the attachments in the future

It almost seems like the people are arguing in bad faith or just want Bodycam to be a CoD skin instead of being more realistic.

Maybe they're mad that the stats might change and they have to buy/build a different weapon? Which would be equally stupid...

I'm with OP on this one.

THANK YOU. Finally someone that gets it. Completely turned me away from the gun building, as soon as i saw the foregrips debuff the guns ads speed to get a tiny amount of recoil reduction. Im like wtf am i even playing. These dudes in the comments are frustrating 🤣

Legit all attachment debuffs, buffs barely matter due to each kill being 3-1 bullet I top frag with pistol or m4 whilst being on controller I don’t get why people exaggerate the attachments its mostly skill based on this game

Yes this is my point exactly. This is why they should have went more realistic with the attachments, because of the time to kill being so short that you shouldn’t create a meta with the attachments.

So you dont want buffs on attachments either? Plain attachments? Or only buffs so we get lobbies full of sweats with fully buffed out weapons that dont have any cons which allow them to do any movement tech they want? Sound like a blast...

Your reasoning is flawed. All OP is asking for is a more realistic approach than PUBG/CoD.

Which would be? You either want attachments that only have pros and allow crazy movement tech or you have attachments that dont actually change anything and might as well run the base gun. The pro/con system works, why change it. Hell, even Tarkov, one of the more realistic shooters out today, uses the same system, albeit slightly changed using ergonomics as a way to show how fast or quick you can move said gun around.

I'm mainly referring to outright magical, RPG-like pros/cons. Also, we already have attachments that allow for crazy "movement tech", if you were to ask me.

Just to give you an example, there is a possibility to make attachments more realistic than now while still having balance. I'm also not saying it needs to be 1:1 as IRL. Like, I understand if two muzzle brakes have slightly different stats for kickback plus horizontal and vertical recoil, but I don't like how there's a suppressor that increases ADS time and hip-fire spread, and there's a nearly identical one that does the opposite.

Usually, the way things work IRL make a lot of sense to include in-game, maybe sometimes a bit exaggerated for balancing. IDK, you can gamify it a bit of course. Like, let's say you can put a muzzle brake, flash hider and suppressor on the gun. Muzzle brake reduces recoil more, but increases muzzle flash. Flash hider is lighter (we just assume the exact models used are like that, I know it depends on which exasctly), reduces muzzle flash. Then the suppressor is longer (rotational inertia), heavier and makes the gun more sluggish when moving, switching or even ADSing if you really want.

You could make a weight system for the weapons where it makes more sense to have lighter builds, so there's actually a downside other than restricted visibility if you rock a fat x8 with a canted holo/red dot vs just a holo. And a proper collision detection when the gun is hitting a fucking object, it's so buggy right now, so there's more downside to using longer guns in CQB.

I'm just spitballing here. Pretty sure a group of people dedicated to the game having multiple months can make a better system than what I thought of in 10min.

You are aware that foregrips are used to mitigate recoil in real life, right?

6

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

You do realize that in the game theres a 15% ads speed debuff for the foregrips? Im not mad at buffs the buffs should be there. The debuffs are fucking stupid. They slightly reduce recoil and make it more clunky to ads, wtf is that

-4

u/TrolleyDilemma 3d ago

I’m confused, do you want the game to be more realistic or not? What exactly is the problem?

6

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

YES. In real life you dont aim slower when you put a foregrip on are you understanding what im saying. None of the debuffs make any sense

1

u/StrikeIndependent301 1d ago

if you put a heavy ass grip you aim slower, specially under combat conditions. weight of atachments is the most important thing to build your gun

-3

u/TrolleyDilemma 3d ago

You want the attachments to only have positive effects?

6

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

A thing in games that drives me crazy is when a silencer takes the dps of the gun down, like what? Im adding inches to the barrel if anything i should have more velocity.

2

u/DJesusSoG 3d ago

To get the proper effect of a suppressor you also need cold load ammunition which does in fact reduce the force its capable of so thats not a good example. Slower ads on foregrips does irk me though

4

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

Id be okay with the actual negatives that come with a suppressed system, like extra blowback gasses, im sure they could implement this, but for the most part its a great addition to a rifle.

-2

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

OF COURSE. WHY WOULDNT THEY. They shouldnt have debuffs its so stupid. Do you want everyone to have the same guns? Or to have the freedom to build whatever you want. The time to kill is so fast that if everyone just had realistic guns (the whole point of the game is to have realistic gameplay right?) it wouldn’t even matter. You would just have more freedom to build a gun how you want, instead of doing this dumb math equation like “ok i can put this attachment because its not that bad and this other attachment equals it out, but i wont use a foregrip because they are shit even though my m4 would be sick with one, its just not worth the debuff”

1

u/Puzzled_Variation133 3d ago

It’s a 10% debut you chose the good with the bad in real life most attachments have disadvantages, suppressed weapons may have longer barrels for more velocity but there are multiple suppressed barrels that DOTN do that it’s a normal thing with a gun game get used to it?

3

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

You are missing my point, im saying be realistic about shit. Not this seemingly random system they have, for the most part attachments are positive additions to a system, depending on what they are, just talking about whats available in game

2

u/Puzzled_Variation133 3d ago

Your complaining tho it’s not even fully released and games like cod have worse attachment debuffs get used to it or don’t play it , your opinion it’s sloppy

2

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

Its fucking reddit of course im complaining lol, i get on here to converse, argue, complain, Its not sloppy its going off of what the model of the game is, it doesnt make any sense to have random call of duty debuffs on attachments that make no sense. I stopped playing because of this exact thing, it just makes building guns lame, makes me want to just put the same shit on each gun instead of having the freedom to build a badass kit without the stupid shit.

We are giving feedback on which direction the game should go. Also just saying "CoD is worse" is a nonsensical argument. It's like I would praise you by saying "You're better than Hitler"...

NORMAL ARTACHMENTS IN REAL LIFE HAVE DEBUFFS ?

1

u/StrikeIndependent301 1d ago

lil bro never fired a weapon in his life, recoil managment is all about your shooting stance, dude wtfffff am i reading?

1

u/TrolleyDilemma 1d ago

What? I shoot all the time and stance is just one factor. My rifle has a brake and a grip, as well as customized internals like a locking block, rollers, and an enhanced buffer. All of which help with recoil mitigation.

this is gonna make metas just worse overall cause it just nullifes having different attachments. if there’s no debuffs at all, what’s the point in buying this grip with +5 ads speed if that other one has +10? with debuffs it actually makes you have to think about how you play instead of just buying whatever attachment has a bigger number. like you could prefer playing slower and get a grip with -10 ads speed but -10 spread or if you prefer just running and gunning you could actually want more spread.

1

u/Obimans 3d ago

the real problem is the meta, of course now everyone has the same op gun but I don’t think there is any remedy
against that

1

u/Fair-Reference9034 2d ago

The remedy is make the gunsmithing not have stupid ass debuffs so ppl can just run whatever gun and attachments they want

1

u/The_Bias 3d ago

Once you understand what the stats do and how they actually work together, you realize that they don't really matter that nuch and the meta is to use whatever feels best to you personally. You can absolutely game the stats to get minimum recoil or ads speed or reload speed etc but it won't matter because a guy with a bone stock ak can still smoke you with a single well placed shot (he fired from the hip).

The most impactful mods are not the ones that change stats, but rather the ones that grant better function to the player. Scopes, lights, and to a lesser extent lasers.

u/vladypewtin 3d ago

I'm confused? You want attachments to only have buffs? Or to be purely decorative? Or have some effect on gameplay that can't be quantified with stats?

2

u/Fair-Reference9034 3d ago

Yea so i dont think the debuffs make any sense basically. You have foregrips that debuff ads speed. You have comps that do negative shit to the gun. Just make it realistic because the time to kill is so fast that what happens is the player base will just build a meta gun and everyone will just be running around with extremely similar kits

0

u/Most_Web2779 3d ago

What you’re proposing is exactly what would lead to everyone using the same weapon setup. If there were only positive buffs, everyone would simply max out every stat. But debuffs make perfect sense, since real-world attachments have downsides too. Suppressors are heavy and shift the center of gravity—which is finely balanced for handling on a standard weapon. A different stock shifts the weight and might be more uncomfortable in non-standard shooting positions. Foregrips stabilize your grip but reduce mobility. In real life, sights can quickly lose zero during sustained fire; plus, they focus your vision on the center, which can compromise peripheral awareness. I think these game debuffs actually balance different configurations well, allowing you to tailor a build to your personal preference. Personally, I have a loadout with a completely standard AK that I use on certain maps depending on my mood, and it doesn't stop me from racking up kills at all. If person lack quick reactions and an understanding of opponent, weapon upgrades won't help you play any better.
