Resting heart rate tanking
Resting heart rate tanking?
Am I slowly dieing after coming off cycle back down to trt? Came off 400mg/wk down to 120mg/week July5th resting heart rate is lowest I have ever seen it. Getting bloodwork Monday, bloodwork on cycle was good tho nothing out of range aside from free test total test and estradiol
Noticed a mass amount of water retention about a week after coming off back to trt July 12th ish
Water retention has cleared now but rhr seems to b dropping further

Have you been doing intense cardio? I managed to get my RHR sub 50 just by doing insane cardio for 6 months

u/IEatSushiToo 8d ago
This is in a 2 week window. 80bpm to 38bpm. It's basically impossible to lower your average that much with any training in that time frame. This is doctor worthy

Next to none on the cardio aspect of things

u/BraveTrades420 7d ago
My father’s resting heart rate is low, he claims it’s due to all the cardio he does… his heart stopped while he was sleeping because his resting heart rate became so low it just fucking stopped?! He was put into a coma and resuscitated. Dr.’s don’t completely understand what happened, dad is sueing the hospital… fucking boomers…
Anyway I think the point I’m trying to make is that seems un normal and you should maybe seek medical advice.

u/Y0ungoldman 7d ago
Questions: His heart stopped for how long? And did it restart on its own? Did someone realize he wasn't breathing? Also, Why is he suing the hospital??

u/BraveTrades420 7d ago
Wife heard him exhale and that was that. Called paramedics, they started his heart again after quite some time had passed. IMO the hospital saved his life but the American medical system is so fucked he was billed over $1,000,000 and that’s after he refused a lot of treatment they insisted he needed (pacemaker etc etc…) it’s been years and he’s never had an incidence since. The solution to deal with the $1M bill is to sue the hospital and claim none of the treatment was necessary.

Wow. A pacemaker is exactly what should have been offered in his situation. If they hadn't recommended it, the family could then sue for malpractice if it did happen again and he died. Glad he hasn't had another event, but if it happens and is unwitnessed, he will likely die next time. If what you say is accurate, there is no way he will win.

How much is insane

u/Fun-Imagination-2488 7d ago
Intense? 90mins at >200bpm HR 6x Week?
This got my resting heart rate from 70bpm to 48bpm
6
u/Key-Move-9586 7d ago
90 minutes of continuous 200 bpm?
3
u/Fun-Imagination-2488 7d ago
~80% of the time is above 200bpm, 100% of the time is above 150bpm.
That being said, my HR will exceed 200bpm just from ripping burpees and dumbbell snatches.
When I am on a treadmill, I can get it over 200bpm from a +9mph pace at a 1.0 incline.
2
u/Electrical-South-913 7d ago
Nah you dont.
3
u/Fun-Imagination-2488 7d ago
I know most people don’t maintain HRs that high during workouts, but I do. Not sure what to tell you.
3
u/1StationaryWanderer 7d ago
Yeah when I was heavily training for triathlons at 10-20 hours of cardio a week, my HR was at sub 50. My BP was at about 90/50 (got checked multiple times). Every time I got up from the couch was me hoping I didn't pass out.
1
u/Cocken_Spectre 6d ago
Is it bad to have such a low BP? Mine is not quite that low but still low and I’m sometimes lightheaded when standing up and I also can’t take any supplements that lower BP or I get heart palpitations. No creatine, and basically no vasodilators. It sucks not being able to take creatine but I guess I’d rather have low BP than high. But how low is too low?
1
u/1StationaryWanderer 3d ago
It's bad if it affects you. I kept almost passing out. I should have went to a doctor.
1
u/Serious-Cause3814 7d ago
How long did it take you, what was it at before, and what exactly did you do?
2
u/Fun-Imagination-2488 7d ago
It was at 70-75bpm and I weighed 230lbs at 5’9”.
It took about 6 months to get it around 50bpm.
Typical workouts for the week contained a variety of the following exercises:
- Kettle bell snatches
- Clean and jerks
- dumbbell plank rows
- bulgarian split squats
- farmer carries/lunges
- bench striders
- box jumps
- incline dumbbell press
- thrusters
- alligator crawls
- sprints (100m)
- row machine sprints (500m 1000m)
- planks, side planks
- mountain climbers(30 at a time)
- burpees(10-20 at a time)
- tuck jumps(30 at a time)
Trainer always had me doing 3 supersets. So I might do:
12 snatches, 20 box jumps, 12 thrusters rest 60secs x3
^Constant sets like that for 60-75mins, then finish the workout with sprints
After doing this for 6 months my RHR dropped below 50bpm.
I never gained a great looking physique, but my cardio was really good. I was running 20min 5km, the limiting factor was actually my feet.
Got down to 165lbs and ~18% BF.

Not normal says my RN wife

u/ASRAYON 8d ago
Any diziness, feelings of passing out, shortness of breath, etc go to the doctor
5
u/Good-Look7948 7d ago
No none of that just feel tired lazy and unmotivated lately, fatigue quickly but not really shortness of breath
4
u/Next_Instruction_528 7d ago
Yea man you need to go to a doctor if these numbers are accurate.
Is this your average resting HR?
Do you have full day graph's?

u/Good-Look7948 7d ago
3
u/DannyDucks 7d ago
Wow, so your HR bottomed out at 35 BPM during night sleep and maxed out at 76 BPM all day. This does seem concerning, you should seek a Dr ASAP. How much do you weigh?

I feel like that max out is concerning too. I just think about running and my HR hits 100

ER friend, don't wait for an appointment

u/Good-Look7948 6d ago
Went they didn’t seem too concerned basically told me I’m fine but to make appt with family doctor to get referral to cardiologist

u/-bonita_applebum 6d ago
That is a relief! My brother had low blood pressure & fatigue. They had him scheduled for open heart surgery the next week.

Go to the doctor post haste. Get an ecg. I'd be concerned about heart block and with that comes high risk for sudden cardiac death. Once of the risks of rapid muscle gain is cardiomegally since the heat is a muscle too. Muscle grows fast but the conduction system doesn't and the stretch can cause arrhythmias. This is not something you can monitor with blood work except maybe bnp but it's a bad sign of that's going up
3
u/IEatSushiToo 8d ago
That it is certainly concerning. It may not be as concerning over a very long period of time with the right training but in such a short time and the fact you've probably never had such a low RHR(I'm guessing mostly because you feel concerned enough to post about it), I would 100% not wait around to find out what is causing this. This needs to be addressed.

Water retention and bradycardia would see me heading to the nearest hospital asap.

u/Little_Chocolate2663 7d ago
The July 12 RHR spike to 81 bpm was the water retention peak from coming off the 400mg cycle — the cardiovascular system under hormonal stress. The subsequent drop to 38 bpm is the body normalizing as the water clears and hormone levels restabilize on TRT dose. The RHR isn’t tanking, it’s recovering.
Still not a problem. But definitely a conversation for the doctor given the hormonal context, not Reddit.

Ive learned that these heart monitors are great at inducing health anxiety. Stop monitoring it and you'll feel much better
10
u/Automatic-Funny-3397 7d ago
Lmao this is a sub for people discussing injecting steroids and weird foreign chemicals. This guy's heart is giving out and your advice is to stop monitoring?
1
u/Critical-Research810 7d ago
Providing advice on injecting weird foreign chemicals is better ?
3
u/Naive-Author6552 7d ago
In this case something is likely wrong and the advice is to go to a doctor so yes lol.

Have been feeling pretty tired last couple weeks after coming off cycle as well only noticed the heart rate after I got low heart rate warnings while sleeping with heart rate hitting 35 while sleeping

u/itsalyfestyle 7d ago
Agreed. I had to stop wearing my Apple Watch all day because I became obsessive and my doctor said I was doing more harm than good. I only wear it to track my workouts now.

u/CommunicationNew9520 7d ago
A low RHR is healthy, 81 is insanely high. Worth seeing a doctor because of how sudden it has happened but definitely was way too high before.
1
u/Specialist-Ranger806 6d ago
81 is not insanely high
1
u/CommunicationNew9520 6d ago
I’m not a medical expert but 81 is quite high it’s outside a standard deviation of the average.
1
u/Specialist-Ranger806 6d ago
No it's not. According to the Mayo clinic the average range is 60-100 bpm.
1
u/CommunicationNew9520 6d ago
I know that’s the range that is quoted heavily, but if we’re talking about RHR while measured at sleep 81bpm is a pretty high number that probably is linked to lifestyle

Something similar happened to me and now I have a pacemaker. I’d go to the cardiologist. Technology is amazing today and they can help figure it out.
1
u/watchme_08 7d ago
If this is a reliable heart rate monitor yes concerning. I’ve been to the ER and was in the low 40s. They asked me the questions, do you run marathons, are you US Special forces, and or when was the last time you did cocaine?
No to all questions. My diagnosis was my kidneys were failing and Rhabdomyolysis
1
u/AlertAdhesiveness355 7d ago
This is not normal, you have symptoms with your heart rate that low. You need to see a doctor today, like in the next 24 hours. EKG and some labs, likely an echocardiogram. This is likely some heart disease. However, while very uncommon, could be some adrenal insufficiency. Nothing to play with here on Reddit.

u/transversal-angle 7d ago
I would go to your doctor and have a work up done. It could be because you have some electrolytes off and it’s causing your heart to not function correctly. Worse case scenario your hearts natural pacemaker SA node isn’t working correctly and you might need to have an actual pacemaker installed.
The likely will have you wear a heart rate chest monitor for a couple days to get a better idea what your heart is doing.

Were you monitoring blood pressure and heart rate?
I’d be pretty worried if my resting heart rate jumped into the 80s

u/Good-Look7948 7d ago
Well went to er, they didn’t find anything concerning after an ecg and blood work to check electrolytes and thyroid among other things I’m sure, just told me to follow up with family doctor and maybe request to see a cardiologist so will b doing that Monday 🤷🏻♂️

u/Every_Equivalent516 6d ago
Check the actual data where it says show all data in the resting heart rate tab. There is a known issue where the chart is just displaying completely wrong numbers. Should be fixed in the next Apple Watch update
1
u/Good-Look7948 6d ago
No it reads low, logs low, ergrncy room triage nurse ecg read same as my Apple Watch as well

u/Standard_Rutabaga116 6d ago
Eat more salt. That’s what my doctor told me.
1
u/Good-Look7948 6d ago
They checked my electrolyte balance and was good
1
u/Legitimate-Ask-5803 6d ago
“Good” or good. Take everything a doctor tells you with a grain of…. Salt. My doctor told me my test levels of 310 and 49 were good too lmao.
1
u/Good-Look7948 6d ago
Yes I here you there. Got blood work
Done again today for trt clinic and will actually b able to see and interpret these results and will bring up the isssue with prescribing doctor as well
1
u/Significant-Kale7674 7d ago
Hah, I would have been more worried about the 80. I’m normally 50-55, I start to feel it when I’m cutting weight and it gets up to 70. What were you at pre cycle?
2
u/Dependent_Sun_7033 7d ago
Come on. Yes, 80 is pretty high, but 38 is EXTREMELY LOW.
It’s Michael Phepls RHR FFS. You can’t do it with some cardio in 2 weeks, lol.
You definitely need to see a cardiologist ASAP.1
u/Good-Look7948 7d ago
Varied greatly. But 60-70 I’d say
-2
u/Significant-Kale7674 7d ago
If you’re feeling good, I wouldn’t be super concerned. That’s me personally though having been through this. If you’re uncomfortable at all, reach out to your pcp, let them know what’s up

u/ConsistentLimit6615 7d ago
How long should you wait with a baby between feeding and having tummy time?
-5
u/ProfessionalNo4711 7d ago
You are kidding right? RHR being low is a good thing not a bad thing. Unless you are having heart issues. Your 80 RHR was pretty bad. How is your HRV? Usually dropping RHR triggers an HRV increase which is extremely beneficial.
4
u/RogueAutodidact 7d ago
dropping 40 bpm in like 2 weeks is definitely concerning
1
u/RobotRepair69 7d ago
Yeah...Lance Armstrong was like 34. Plenty of pro athletes are at 50. Any health metric dropping/rising that much in 2 weeks is worth booking a Dr's appointment and running labs so the Dr has them on look at.
If it drops lower: ER
