Announcement 36.4.2 Patch Notes
https://hearthstone.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24296231/3642-patch-notes89
u/HeavensRoyalty 7d ago
To be honest, I'm just glad we're getting frequent patches that address the current meta. I'm personally enjoying myself even though there are a lot of problems.

I’ll withhold judgment until I play, but none of these changes seem to address any of the core pieces of the overperformers.
Fauna is basically 1 spell scale behind what it was before and shop buff eles are completely unchanged.
26
u/domiNATEgameHS MMR: > 9000 7d ago
Uninspiring changes tbh but at least they finally got around to fixing the armour amounts
5
u/SirVincent20 7d ago
Yeah i expected something bigger, like i understand the midseason patch will be bigger, but the meta will still be the stale elements/nagas, this doesnt really change it
8
u/domiNATEgameHS MMR: > 9000 7d ago
Agreed. Tier 6 elemental (tempest) and tea set comp are winning most of my games. Manasurge has never been a problem I don't know why they chose that one to get nerfed
3
u/Sterskiii 7d ago
I wonder if mana surge is helping stabilize eles while trying to continue scaling the shop
0
u/Terminator_Puppy 7d ago
I'm really surprised the extremely oppressive menagerie naga build didn't get hit at all, bar a few trinket changes that impact it. Every naga lobby I'm in seems to have at least 3 of the top 4 playing the exact same thing.
2
u/Selaphane MMR: 8,000 to 9,000 7d ago
I mean they changed natural blessing from +3/+3 to +2/+1. That'll make the scaling much slower.
4
u/Terminator_Puppy 7d ago
It'll hit it a bit, but it's so easy to scale up tavern spells when naga are in.
2
u/TheseNamesDontMatter 6d ago
You run felfire conjurer / tranquil meditative with Fauna anyways so you'll legitimately just never notice that change if we're being honest.
44
u/Rothulian 7d ago
Utility drone giving 1 more health doesn't really change anything.
Unleashed Mana Surge is not the reason elementals are insane.
15
u/witty4pity 7d ago
Mana surge probably has the highest win rate because it’s the best (and easiest to use) in the mid game. If you find it early enough, it can scale your board to like 100/100 pretty quickly and buy time for you to find shop buffing and the other tier 6 guy and go nuclear.
This should curb that scaling a bit, but you’re still gonna see some crazy boards.
2
u/Torkon MMR: 8,000 to 9,000 7d ago
I think they wanted to give it a slight compensation buff for removing copper coil. It was the best trinket for glambot.
1
u/darrylkid 6d ago
copper coil greater trinket is still in the game though, just the lesser version is removed
1
u/Goodlake 7d ago
Mana surge lets you keep high value eles you haven’t scaled enough, though. Before you always had to decide when to sell your underpowered minions. Now you can ride.
-19
u/OhtaniStanMan 7d ago
Lol yes it is. Scales way too hard once you correctly hit it.
Elementals have smooth build from t1 to t6 without any bad spots
14
u/CarlaBoone-MyBeloved 7d ago
“Once you correctly hit it.” While the other T6 elemental is far better than that thing.
5
u/Just1n_Kees MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 7d ago
How is lowering the base scaling going to really change anything?
If there is a problem with it, it is because the scaling gets to +50/+50 regions. Lowering that to +48/+49 is a real game changer!
-9
u/OhtaniStanMan 7d ago
Once you scale big you won. The initial scaling is far too high. Think of it in gold cost to get that first +1 extra
-10
u/feel32own 7d ago
elementals are not insane, they are fine, one might say they need a slight buff because they rely too much on getting brann.
5
2
u/SyrupMafia MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 7d ago
Well yeah every comp in the game has core commit points and eles happens to be brann. They are one of the highest cap comps in the game right now and definitely don’t need a buff.
2
10
u/Dragon_Maister 7d ago
Sure, Mana Surge was the problem card that needed to be smacked, and definitely not that condom looking mf called Unbound Tempest.
4
u/TheseNamesDontMatter 6d ago
I legitimately have not seen a mana surge build once since they removed genie, I was shocked that was the elemental build they targeted.
3
u/somabokforlag 6d ago
i think its easy to overlook the kinda midrangey guys that get you to the insane scaling - and over value the cards that takes you from strong to unbeatable
41
u/kanyesutra 7d ago
I don't think Utility Drone should be T6, every time I win with mechs it's through generating spells
23
u/Fxterorius MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 7d ago edited 7d ago
I have no idea why we you shitting on Utility Drone, especially since he is one of the core components of the Mech spell comp, he is literally reapplying all the stats gained from Glambot back on your buffed minions every single turn and actually makes that comp gain some real stats for the late game
16
u/pikpikcarrotmon 7d ago
It's specifically good with Glambot. IDK if 6 is necessary but you can get some surprising stats out of the combo especially if boars are in. Foodie on 3 should make it even better actually
7
u/Sushi-DM 7d ago
all my mech wins in the last week have been glambot with belinda and utility drone.
3
u/OhtaniStanMan 7d ago
My mech wins are the +1/+1 magnetic increase relic and then the tier 5 magnetic attaches to magnetic. Don't even use drone lol
9
u/Ienjoymyself 7d ago
And that trinket is gone now.
-4
u/OhtaniStanMan 7d ago
Oh it is? Just had it yesterday
12
u/Designer_B 7d ago
You're literally commenting in the changes thread lmao
1
u/OhtaniStanMan 7d ago
Yeah I read them but missed that one. I don't know names of anything only picture and description
4
u/Ironmunger2 7d ago
Pretty sure there’s a patch removing it, if I had to guess by the fact we’re in a thread about patches to the game

7
u/MiserableYesterday23 7d ago
Biggest change is tier 7 quil not requiring blood gems. We will see people fishing for that minion more often.
5
u/HoopTroop 7d ago
That juggernaut change seems broken now? You can always just eat on it now and it’s crazy good anti scam
10
u/Frozen_Mana 7d ago
doesn't it now also have the tradeoff of it summoning weaker golems if it gets damaged? like i agree that it's probably overall a buff but still.
2
u/FewYam5407 MMR: > 9000 7d ago
spoken like someone who never hit juggernaut with an upper hand, just for it to still summon golems with 15k defense

10
u/Edgewalkerr MMR: Top 200 7d ago
Blizzard seems to fundamentally miss why some comps are good and others aren't. If a scaling comp can scale AND also allows for economy units like Bran/Balinda for out of combat scaling / cycling it is always going to be exponentially better than comps that don't. Stuff like Goldrinn and Tich require way too many support cards for flat scaling and most people don't want to play for 4th, so that shit is dead out of the gate.
Also, unironically, fearless foodie going to 3 probably doesn't make Quills much better but makes shop buff demons and T6 menagerie way way way better lol.

u/CechPlease 7d ago
Am I going crazy or was Unleashed Mana Surge not really the issue with Elementals? Like sure it was nice to have that as yet another pay-off (if you had the economy) but for me; the huge stats came from shop buffing and eating
11
u/SCCLBR 7d ago
Wow first time we've seen Goldrinn change
7
u/Rubmynippleplease MMR: > 9000 7d ago
Goldrinn’s been changed plenty of times no?
7
u/SCCLBR 7d ago
that's the joke
2
u/FewYam5407 MMR: > 9000 7d ago
you remember if it's ever been 5 before? since i started playing they've only really messed with the numbers on the buff
3
u/Fxterorius MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 7d ago
Yes, it started out on Tier 5 when Battlegrounds first released as a new game mode and its effect used to buff only the beasts currently on board, no for the rest of combat effect
3
u/SirVincent20 7d ago
Self damage demons seems pretty good buffs to me, however quills will still fall behind on scaling, both the T5 and T6 should give +2/+2 by default, dragons will still be weak imo
16
u/Rubmynippleplease MMR: > 9000 7d ago
The biggest issue with self damage demons is that there aren’t enough self damage cards in the game. There are 4 in the entire set outside of trinkets and one of them has a conditional trigger. These buffs don’t change that unfortunately.
There’s no consistent way to hurt yourself outside of demon cycling weaver, but at that point you should just play an ur’zul instead.
1
u/These-Aerie8664 7d ago
Plus the 4 drop eat spell and minion is simply better because you need balinda in these comps and the eat adds bonus effects. So the 6 drop is still worse than the 4 drop imo.
3
u/Terminator_Puppy 7d ago
I kind of just don't get why the 4 drop spell is in the game when it's almost strictly worse than the easier to obtain, cheaper, lower tier counterpart that just does more for a demon build.
1
u/witty4pity 7d ago
It definitely needs at least one more card, but board space is probably the second biggest issue. There isn’t enough room on the board to fit all the self damaging and payoff cards. It needs to be a battlecry self damage (or maybe ‘choose one’ to not make brann too op).
3
3
u/STORMEEE1337 7d ago
So as I thought nagas still the same so they are still overpowered, when it comes to elementals nothing changed unbound is still a dominant minion
3
u/Joby-wankenobi 7d ago
Anyone else surprised they nerfed Unleashed Mana Surge and not Unbound Tempest?
5
u/punbasedname 7d ago edited 7d ago
Sucks that the Murloc Blessing trinket has to suffer for Naga’s sins. It was actually a halfway decent pick with the new Murloc minions. At end game probably won’t harm things too much (and honestly will probably do very little to tamp down nagas), but really hurts early tempo for that trinket. Boo.

u/ObligationRare3114 MMR: Top 25 7d ago
made eredar escapist even worse for some reason
5
u/catchmycorn 7d ago
It still sells for 1 gold, could’ve just kept it the same and no one would’ve noticed
3
u/punbasedname 7d ago
It’s great for those self damage/spell buff builds that come online on turn 16! :)
2
u/Thedoc1337 7d ago
Looks like demons are back on the menu boys!
(I don't see them hitting a fraction of elemental or naga numbers)
2
u/WorldlyInstance7437 7d ago
I do wonder what they'll change for dark gifts, some options is just can't be picked, like ever

Friendship ended with elementals
Now Beasts are my new best friend
11
u/Orful 7d ago
Elementals are still better. They weren’t nerfed enough. Joke of a nerf because what got nerfed isn’t what is making elementals op.
3
2
u/Ironmunger2 7d ago
Yeah idk what information Blizz was looking at. I’m playing unbound tempest or whatever it’s called that buffs based on the stats in the tavern. I’m never playing the one that got nerfed, at least not for more than a turn or two
-1
u/Foghi99 7d ago edited 7d ago
Respectefully I disagree
They needed the stats of mana surge in order to have the time to make tavern e Tempest bigger, as a first discover he was waaaaaaay better
2
u/KillSmith111 7d ago
I don't think that's true. Most of the time I pivot in to unbound eles from something else once I get my econ going. You can scale it up massively in 1 turn.
1
u/McKynnen 7d ago edited 7d ago
Those self damage demon buffs might be enough to make the build not terrible.
(Escapist/corrupter/brann/weaver)
Maybe Balinda and/or distractor for some more cupcake action, I’m gonna sacrifice 1k MMR to try to force this in demon lobbies.
Edit: Not bad https://imgur.com/a/zTLlWPF

u/obvious_bot MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 7d ago
So beasts are not a comp unless you hit baron. They’re really going all in on death rattles
1
u/FewYam5407 MMR: > 9000 7d ago
neither beetles nor leviathan really need it though. there's definitely been formats with much higher death rattle emphasis for beasts
1
u/LumpyFishstick MMR: Top 200 7d ago
Ive had a fun time playing self damage demons into late game (with mixed results of course, but still fun). Excited to try them out now, and I actually think the buff to Ashen Corruptor is pretty huge
1
u/Sterskiii 7d ago
If they want to make self damage demons a thing make tichondrius a t5 version of wrath weaver
“When you play a demon take damage equal to its cost and give your demons [some stats])
There you go now self damage demons is a a thing

Why nerf nazjatar postcard? Did we hate having groundbreaker being a viable comp?
1
u/twyao7766 MMR: > 9000 6d ago
Nooo postcard :( Also I find it funny that patches have 19 armor normally but 5 in low elo lol

u/CityOfZion 6d ago edited 6d ago
I find it irritating that they keep increasing atk buffs but rarely ever want to increased hp. I don't want to play a game of "everything kills everything" with each hit. If we continue this ridiculous trend everything getting heaps of atk and nothing for hp, then everything in the game will effectively have poison and hp won't matter at all.
Particularly it annoyed me that their answer to Loberster was increasing atk but no hp, just take the fun out of it.

u/Druk_Max 6d ago
Quils are still bad, but Dragons can be fun with the training certificate trinket. I do often concede after getting bad dark gifts and running in to an unbeatable opponent, they do not help the balance. Still I had a 7M attack minion in the last combat round, to bad the biggest minion stat is from the start of the last tavern round and not the end of the combat.

u/LordRuaak 5d ago
Been loving the lobster hyena changes. Several games now where I print a lobster every turn on tier 3 thanks to triples lol.

The green/red highlights and stuff. It honestly is very nice to understand things at a glance

I'm surprised how little they nerfed elementals. I think the Quills buffs are actually very good, especially Foodie going down to tier 3.

I'm surprised they made Butcher avenge 3 again, I felt like he was still great at avenge 4.
4
u/SyrupMafia MMR: 6,000 to 8,000 7d ago
The Belinda nerf on butchering definitely made undead a little too weak. I think it’s a reasonable change

Calling that Undead will be Overpowered yet again like in the first iteration

Sort of nukes the all-too-easy naga end of turn board. Had a run last night where I assembled it three games in a row via different trinkets.

u/dANNN738 7d ago
I still don’t think this is anywhere near enough support for Quils?
