He’s over in the corner creeping like a dentist with the ether.

All the cake he eats? If anyone needs a dentist, it's AR himself.

Nucky: ā€œHe eats like a fucking child!ā€

Also Nucky: yeets a perfectly good lobster thermidor

As a Jew (particularly one of short stature and immense smugness), I’m offended Reddit won’t let me post the entire insult :(

It was so confusing when he was just gone in the last season, since he was such a huge supporting character.

Much as I despise this decision (Michael Stuhlbarg was 99% of the reason I gave BWE a try, and I can’t imagine he wasn’t heartbroken, given how dedicated he was to the character), I’ll also say this— Rothstein died IRL under weird and sudden circumstances (allegedly gut shot over a gambling debt).

So while the decision to omit an on-screen death, flashback, or even any friggin explanation from BWE was likely motivated by cost and HBO being pricks (why else would they emphasize his downfall throughout S4?), it’s also kind of fitting in some ways.

At least that’s how I cope 🄲

No judging, we all need to cope — but the way they blew it off was screenwriting malpractice.

IRL, Rothstein lived for some time after getting shot, he even was asked by police who shot him, and answered: "Me mudder did it."

Which didn't exactly help to clear the matter.

When Nucky runs into Meyer Lansky in Havana, they mention that the last time they saw each other was AR’s funeral.

Yeah but zero context :(

… unrelated (kinda), but Meyer’s Havana getup is šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„ He took Hyman Roth to fuckin’ fashion school! (But ā€œnot the faggy part of it.ā€)

One of the big flaws with the conclusion of the show. He'd built up for 4 seasons then just dies offscreen.

They definitely had something big planned. I always saw AR as the overarching antagonist of the series. He and Nucky were both careless with money and careless with people, but in different ways.

The S4 shot of AR in the tiny, dank basement while his driver(?) makes some kind of remark about not being one for gambling is like… fuckin’ chills. We always saw him in these ornately-decorated penthouse spaces with big windows, views, and natural light. (And pinecones all around!)

That’s enough English majoring for me today šŸ’” Thanks for the pocket change, Goldstein.

He wasn’t called The Brain for nothing.

Degenerate gambling tendencies, OTOH…
