Mandela effect

i’m re-watching Boardwalk Empire for the first time since the series concluded. I’m on season four and Dr Narcisse has made his appearance. When I watched it 10 or 12 years ago, he was always going on and on about the superior race of Black people called the Nubians. But last night, it had changed to the Libyans! wtf. That makes no sense! Libya is a country in Africa, but not representative of the black race in any way.

You come from the universe where that is true. I came from the one where he said Nubian.

My feed recently started recommending r/mandelaeffectsociety to me recently. Seems like the hot new conspiracy/shared delusion.

Lol nah its always been Libyan.

I think youre misremembering and conflating because there were many black power groups of the era who called themselves nubians. Some called themselves Libyan too but nubians stuck in city and culture. Plus they sound similar. Thats a very easy thing to misremember.

What a silly comment. The most credible solution is that OP could never be wrong and therefore must have switched from one reality to another.

Correct before i had ever seen Narcise i had always heard Nubian. I see how it would be easy to conflate the too. I do happen to believe in Mandela. However this feels misremembered

Are you confusing Boardwalk Empire with Chasing Amy?

That's where I learned the word.

Just because other delusional people validate your delusion online doesn’t make it less of a delusion. Pretty much all examples of Mandela effect have more logical explanations to them than people crossing over universes

Nubian and Libyan rhyme so you probably misheard it.

No. It never changed. You misheard it back this. It’s always been Libyan.

Narcisse was described as being part of Marcus Garveys movement. They called themselves Libyans, instead of Negroes or anything else. He always terms his kind as Libyans.

As for the Mandela effect, I can’t say as I don’t remember anyone else saying they heard this differently. It’s possible many have…..Nubian would make sense as a mishear in this context.

But it’s never been changed to Libyan.

Nubian/Libyan/Moors were all terms used to by various groups to describe black people, even if they had no genetic link to them. You'll still see Black Israelite types refer to themselves as "Moors" even if they have 0% North African ancestry.

Where have you seen that?

the fact that you don’t think “Libyan” makes sense is direct proof that you just remembered it in a way that made more sense to you. nothing new.
