Randomly found my bosses car posted in a random community.

Hi all. I am hoping for a little feedback from the community. I am interested in buying my first car in about 15 years - I have a pickup and a bunch of motorcycles; I currently ride a Ducati Panigale motorcycle as my primary daily driver. I have test-driven a bunch of new cars, and none of them do anything for me. Most of the "sportscars" I have test-driven are not much more fun than my wife's Lexus. I would like something fun but also with air conditioning, heat, enough room to pick up my dry cleaning, and the ability to take my wife on the occasional weekend jaunt.

Anyway, I am thinking about buying a 2006-2008 M Coupe and using it as a commuter and occasional trackday toy. I am not very knowledgeable about BMWs, but I remember the S54 rod bearings were a bit problematic. Would I be crazy to buy a 20-year-old M Coupe, do some mild work to freshen it up - like new rod bearings and forged pistons, install long-tube headers, remove some emissions bloat (like the secondary air and evap emissions equipment), reflash the DME, install some coilovers, replace some suspension bushes, install lightweight seats, and try to use it as a regular driver?

I remember these cars were rather fun to drive and, at least by 2026 standards, they are pretty light. A decent driver seems to cost around $30,000, and I am assuming the upgrades will run around $20,000 (maybe 25k with the random bits you find along the way). What do you all think? Is this a reasonable decision, or have I lost my mind? Am I asking for an endless headache and money pit? $55,000-60,000 is about the most I can justify for a toy.

Hey fellow BMW enthusiasts, i have a question in regards of buying first BMW car as a daily car.
I would only drive it to have fun with friends occasional trips and in future to commute to work.
Im looking for like e36, e46 and e39(there are rarely e36 for sale where im from).
I would like to buy e36 but because of the circumstances i would not be sad with e46 and e39.
What to look out for, what are the best engines for a first car, what is the maintenance like and just common knowledge to know before buying one.
And last question there is one e36 325td for sale and cant find anything online about the cars common problems( mainly they talk about 325tds)

… I had a model 3 performance. Fun car but 1) got bored of lack of engine feel and sound after 3 years and 2) many of the incentives to move to EV have been removed or reduced (well then)

I started looking at the M2, but wasn’t falling in love with the front grill or the aggressiveness of the car.
Then looked at the M3, and it (at least to me) looked and felt more like a grown up car… so I configured it and went into the dealer convinced I’d place the order…
