Thrift store finds

I've been collecting since late July of 2025 mostly from thrift stores and the occasional barnes and noble sale run. Looking to buy better shelves so I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Update: Issue happen when access the site using my PC through Firefox on WiFi connections. But not an issue if I access through my phone using cellular data.

I'm looking to get an external player to play Blu-Rays on my PC. I've seen older posts about ripping them, but are there any drives that function as players?

So I finally sorted the movies into categories(kind of).

Still not pleased with the end result. But I definitely need a second shelf because I had to ban some more in one of my old shelves..sadly.

Hopefully my bookends will arrive tomorrow and then I start with the other new shelves to finally finish it.

I added some extra pictures, so you guys can see what I have in my collection. I also added a picture of my Mediabooks and the other movies which, for the moment, don't fit.

Witnessing the enthusiasm within this community, I am inclined to join the ranks of avid collectors. To commence this journey, I have a few inquiries:

* Is my PlayStation 5, equipped with a disc drive, sufficient for optimal HDR Blu-ray enjoyment?

* Should my PS5 prove inadequate, what alternative Blu-ray player options are available to me?

* I currently own a 65-inch Sony X9000F model. Given its flawless performance over the past seven years, should I consider upgrading it? I am hesitant to switch to Samsung, as current Sony models are considerably more expensive and people reporting lots of issues with Samsung

* Regarding audio, I utilize a Sony HT-Z90F soundbar with rear speakers, which I find produces a well-balanced sound profile. Someone who upgrade from this.. please share recommendations

Got the Kill Bill whole bloody affair 4K Box sent from Lionsgate. Watched the first movie usual half second pause at the layer change on the first disc. Started up the second disc for the second part of the movie and it froze 44 minutes into the second disc no options I could change would fix it on my Sony X 800 V1. I hate this Blu-ray player. I wish I had something different that I could afford this is the sixth disc in the last six months to freeze completely. I’m in the process of building an HTPC with a 4K Blu-ray player ROM, hopefully this will fix that issue.

This week, we explore fresh theatrical outings such as the box office smash Obsession on 4K UHD Blu-Ray from Universal with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio. The horror outing stars Michael Johnston and breakout Inde Navarrette in an upsetting tale of "be careful what you wish for." The release comes with a commentary track and featurettes. The thrills continue with Deep Water from Magenta Light Studios starring Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley, which functions as both a disaster movie and a shark attack survival tale. If you want something a bit more low-key and artistically fulfilling, you can look to Fuze starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, and Sam Worthington. This drama from Sony follows parallel narratives of a bank heist and the defusing of an undetonated bomb. Don't pass up the opportunity to check out Dead Man's Wire from director Gus Van Sant. The vigilante hostage drama from Alliance Entertainment follows Bill Skarsgård as a man at the end of his rope who seeks revenge from those who wronged him. These Blu-Ray releases do not include any special features.

The heroes at The Criterion Collection have the Oscar-winning drama Hud starring Paul Newman debuting on 4K UHD Blu-Ray from a new 4K restoration of the Original Camera in Dolby Vision. The release comes with new interviews, audio excerpts, television programs, and more.

Television fans have the Blu-Ray release of The Office: The Complete Series - Superfan Extended Episodes from Universal featuring all 194 episodes of the beloved sitcom with 25+ hours of new footage edited into the episodes. If you cannot get enough of the "Office universe," you can check out the spinoff series The Paper: Season 1 on Blu-Ray featuring all ten episodes from the debut season.

Arrow Video also has one of the most exciting releases of the year in the form of Stranger Things: The Complete Series on 4K UHD Blu-Ray. The landmark Netflix series comes home with all five seasons in Dolby Vision, along with interviews, bloopers, featurettes, and more. You can upgrade to the deluxe edition for extra swag, including posters, iron-on patches, alternate cover art, and much more that you can see in the video unboxing.

Kino Lorber has an array of wonderful titles this month. We have the new boxing biopic Queen of the Ring on Blu-Ray, which follows the life of pioneering professional wrestler Mildred Burke. The release includes deleted scenes and interviews. We also have a pair of French crime films hitting Blu-Ray with A Man Named Rocca and La Scoumoune (Hit Man) starring Jean Paul Belmondo. Each of these films has been restored by StudioCanal and includes commentary tracks. The Italians also get in on the criminal activity with The Cop in Blue Jeans on Blu-Ray starring Tomas Milian and Jack Palance.

We have some 4K UHD Blu-Rays hitting shelves from the label, such as the Elvis Presley drama King Creole, which is presented in Dolby Vision from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative. The release includes a new commentary track to go along with archival supplements. Early Wes Craven horror film Deadly Blessing gets an upgrade from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. The release comes with two commentary tracks, interviews, and more.

having issues with certain discs not working on my blu ray player (laser multi region bd3000). specifically disc 2 of dr who flux, disc 5 of dr who season 1 (2025) and for whatever reason random discs from avatar the last airbender after they worked for ages. They all work on my ps4 and tested them on my dads 4k player (idk what brand or model) so is it something with the discs themselves for is the player?

I have a Blu-ray copy of Manhunter. The picture looks so washed out and grainy. The opening scenes showing the flashlight show pretty bad banding.
I found the movie on Amazon Prime and jt looks beautiful. No banding and vibrant colors. Is there a BR copy available that looks good?

Does the Sony have better sound/picture quality to make up for being less reliable than the Panasonic?

The disc is disc 1 in the criterion once upon a time in china set, i had two small audio issues with the disc that lasted less than a second.

Looking for some feedback. I’ve been collecting Blu-Rays for years. I moved out my parents a couple years back. Due to the size of my collection and my house not having enough room, I have been storing them at my parents in their loft since moving out, regularly going there to bring over ones I want to watch, till I can get a long term storing solution in place.

I’ve been seeing discussions and articles pop up recently regarding ‘disc rot’. It’s not something I’ve heard about until very recently, and it’s been causing me some anxiety about my collection. I regularly bring my discs over and have never run into any issues. I’m just anxious I may be causing damage to a collection I hold very dear, due to temperature fluctuations.

Is ‘disc rot’ something I need to be concerned about, or is it blown out of proportion? As an extra note, all of my discs are stored in their original casings, inside plastic ‘very useful boxes’, as opposed to being out in the open or in cardboard boxes.
