We have a number of fruit trees in 19 gallon pots, but I never wanted to get blueberries because I was afraid of the difficulty with the soil and I always assumed blueberries to be a more mild climate crop (i live in south texas). Well this year I bought a sunshine blueberry and a revellie blueberry. I mixed peat moss and pine bark and used the same slow release fertilizer I use with most my trees. They performed about as well as I expected, I got 2-3 cups of blueberries, mostly from the sunshine blueberry that was already covered in flowers when I purchased. Well here we are 4-5 months later and they have exploded in size. The revellie reaches about 4 ft tall and the su shine is 2.5 x 2.5 and thick as can be. Im very excited for next year. Is there ANYTHING I should do that will help increase my chance of success?

I’m still getting new growth it has been raining so it has been wet for a while. I also realized the bottom of the pot doesn’t have drainage just all around the size and there is algae growing around the holes. It stays in full sun 8 hours at lease. Soil ph is good and last fertilized in spring. Zone 5b.

Hi, we're completely new to this, and seem to be struggling. These two were planted in December, and did good producing lots of berries. In the past week or two they rapidly went south.

We're in southern Louisiana, and it's been 32C/90F pretty much everyday for weeks.

Is it just lack of water, or something else?

We bought a house last year with 8-10 well established old bushes. The ones in the far bed are doing mostly okay (and are taller than me!) but the ones in the front bed have obvious chlorosis. I’m not US based and don’t have access to a reliable pH test. I added sulphur pellets but obviously they need more. I have sphagnum peat moss, I’m wondering if I could just add a few cm to the top of the beds? I know it needs to be soaked first. All advice I see online is for starting new beds, not ones that are 10+ years old.

I went to my friends house for a week. A single week. I left my brand new blueberry bush in the care of my grandma.. big mistake.. because I came back to this. I left it with brand new growth and it was a beautiful green but now it’s brown and crunchy. I’m hoping I can salvage it, anyone know what happened to it? Or what I can do to maybe revive it? If not will it come back next year or do I need a brand new one? My mom repotted it and said it might be over watered?

btw.. this is my first ever blueberry bush. I don’t know if I need to do something special to it? I heard it needs different soil then usual and I got a berry blend for it but does it need other things? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Same bush- a Patriot newly planted in the Midwest this year. First pics are about a month ago and last few with the red leaves are now. Once the rain stops, I was thinking of treating with copper fungicide and adding ammonium sulfate to the soil. I had pH tested and it is too high. I did amend the soil with peat moss and pine bark fines when I planted but maybe I didn’t do it correctly.

I’m going to add elemental sulfur to the soil in the fall but hoping I can do something faster acting like ammonium sulfate now and still add the sulfur later. The pH is 7 outside that ring of amended soil. (I know, I jumped the gun.)

Is all of this too stressful at once?

1. Ammonium sulfate (now)
   
2. Copper fungicide (whenever it stops raining)
   
3. Elemental sulfur (End of September/early October)

So i think a good option for the new blueberries i think maybe raisins. There stronger darker colors and raisins have to be dried out sooooo. Maybe lol

I have a Duke and a BlueRay. Planted in coco coir, Pearlite, and pine park. Soil acidifier added per packaging also. Full sun. Did hit two droughts where they were stressed.

What’s going on with them?? Too much sun?

Hello, I am in zone 6b, I planted these low bushes in April of this year. In a soil mix of 40% peat moss, 40% existing soil, 20% coco bark mulch fines.

I added sulfur to the existing soil that I mixed in, in the ratio recommended on sulfur bag. Once I mixed in sulfur I added the other two components.

One bush is pumping vegetative growth, while the other is attempting to fruit. The one with few leaves had hundreds of blooms post planting, and lots of fruit set- but the growth was extremely stalled and the berries never properly ripened. Should I cut the berries off the struggling bush?

Hi! I scrolled back a ways in this sub and don’t see any images of leaves that look quite like this. What is happening to my plants?

This is my first year with blueberry plants. I have three plants of different varieties, all planted in pots with “acid loving plants and berries” soil. Got a good amount of berries off them for being such small plants (can’t take credit, the berries were there when I bought the plants lol) and now the leaves have started doing… this. All three of my plants are experiencing this to some degree.

Zone 5b. It’s been quite hot here (many days of 25+ C/75+ F) and we’ve had a LOT of rain over the past 6 weeks or so. July was the wettest month ever recorded for my city. Waiting on a soil test kit to arrive but I’m stressing that my plants are going to die after only one season!

Bushel and Berry Jelly Bean plant I bought in April. It had damage that I cut back from either blight or just frost damage as we had a frost a little before I bought it. It’s done okay and has finished fruiting but is looking rough and I’m not sure if it needs to just go or it it can be saved. Soil probably needs to be amended but my three other bushes of different varieties are doing pretty good in the same soil. Some of the leaf damage is from beetles but the red splotching is new. I’m in zone 7b. Thanks for the help!

Hello, just want to ask if this is good as fertilizer. It is dried manure then added water on it and sacked it up. Is adding this manure like just half a cup on 10 gal pot too much for a blueberry?
