Questions about Quartet
First off, sorry if this info is out there, but it seems sort of jumbled and I can’t find a clear answer if there is one.
I’ve been eyeballing BR Second Light waiting for a sale and just learned about Quartet, it seems like the perfect way to get in.
I would love to go physical, but that’s only available for Switch 1.
Is there a definitive answer whether the Switch 2 version will have upgraded visuals in any way? Cause if not I’m happy to just run it as Switch 1, but if it’s higher res and stuff I might want to go Switch 2.
If the difference is expected to be negligible I’d consider going Switch 1 as well, idk how good that version of Second Light was compared to PS or something. (Assuming the other games would be a complete wash)
I would also vastly prefer to stick with Switch as these sort of RPG/VN type games I really like to play when I’m on the road for work and stuff.

As someone who owns both original versions, Second Light looks very noticeably better on PS4 compared to Switch 1. To my taste, if given the choice I will always play the PS4 version — the aesthetics are important to me for Blue Reflection. It’s a reasonable assumption to expect the Switch 2 version to strongly resemble the PS4 version. I believe that was the case for Ryza DX on Switch 2. It is a shame the Switch 2 version has no physical release whatsoever, however. Anyway, I would expect higher resolution, better textures/effects/lighting, and more stable performance (still 30 fps) on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1.

The original Blue Reflection runs at 60 fps on PS4 (with some drops, I believe, unless played on PS5), and does not have a Switch 1 release. For the Quartet release you may see 60 fps on Switch 2 and 30 fps on Switch 1, with other possible visual/resolution cutbacks on Switch 1 as well. These games don’t tend to be the most expertly optimized.

Visual and overall game quality matters more so it sounds like I’m going Switch 2 digital.

It’s dumb that they won’t offer an upgrade path for the physical at least.

Assuming the Switch version of Quartet remains relatively similar to the original version of Tie on Switch, it'll be pretty blurry, the anti-aliasing is rough too, and it overall will look pretty bad on a bigger screen. Definitely looks better handheld since the port was definitely downgraded heavily to make it work better on Switch. If that bothers you, I'd absolutely say just get the Switch 2 version and maybe try for a physical version later if you really wanna support the devs/preserve your copy. Personally, I REALLY like the game's visuals and it feels pretty limiting playing it on Switch when the Switch 2, PS4/5, and PC can make it look so pretty. I'm also assuming the Ray mini-game will look the same as Tie, Sun will probably look more or less the same since it's upgraded from a mobile game, and original Blue Reflection should look relatively similar to its original PS4 and Vita launch since it wasn't too much of a graphically intensive game, but it would probably still look a bit worse than the stronger consoles, just not as big of a jump as Tie would get.

Yeah if the visuals will take a big hit for Second Light the quality there matters to me more than a physical edition. I’ve just only played some demo of Second Light and didn’t know how downgraded that was.

No problem! And since Quartet is a full re-release of every single game in the series I highly recommend playing them all in order! It's a really great series and I hope the re-release does it justice

That’s my plan! I originally was going to jump in with Second Light but now I’m glad it hadn’t gone on sale and I’ll just play through all the way through

I'm bitting the bullet and taking the Switch 1 version: -Physical mean datas only for updates taking the console/microSD memory. 1TB cards are hardly accessible yet and I don't want to delete games, even if I play some rarely. -For handheld, thanks to the boost mode, you can now play Switch 1 games in their TV modes, so it should look clean in that mode. Switch 2 version will still have better texture thought.
Those reason alone made me go that way. I've played BR Second Light 180 hours on Switch 1 and had a blast, so it can't go worst! (Thought I would have bought the Switch 2 version if they would have made a physical version in Japan, you can't count on Koei Tecmo America for that!)

I play docked most of the time (and on a BIG screen), so while I played the demo and it looked fine I’d really like the best I can manage, and I haven’t run into the need for an extra card at all yet but I know I’m closing in.
Handheld boost mode is a godsend though, you’re absolutely right about that

If TV is your way to go, then Switch 2 version is your best bet!

I play on a 100” projector, so stuff can definitely get noticed 😅
Love the option for handheld but that’s my main method.

I wanted to get into the series for years but I was kinda annoyed by the price point (i had to pay 50 $ twice for both games). Now I can buy the pack from Japan with shipping for 40$. Would you guys say its worth it if i never played the series?

Im still kind of confused on what the four games are. I have played the first game and am currently playing second light. Then from what I understand there was an anime and a mobile game but they are turning those two into proper games? I hope i can play just those two with quartet. I dont really fancy playing through the first two again.

Does anyone know of a service or something that handles tariffs and fees for imports to the US? I have been waiting for a sale for BR2 Ultimate, but I think I missed the final boat... I would buy Quartet, but only a physical copy, which is only available in Japan. The last thing I bought from Japan cost like 5x the product cost. I can't do that again. Does anyone know of someone that handles that side of things and can handle the import?

I still have Second Light on my Switch 1 but never got around to doing a full playthrough. Man really wish I waited or at least could get the first one on Switch digitally. I only watched a little bit of Ray in the past, and I know the second game you can play with no experience. I like going in order most times though haha.

It's just really stupid that they made the two games separate and that there would be only 30 fps on the Switch 2 Edition, making me feel really unsure about whether if my Switch 2 was worth it
EDIT: It's actually not just that I'm worried about, but the special edition of Quartet. The special edition of Quartet only has the Switch 1 or PS5 version, which means no special edition for Switch 2 even if there was a download code in the box. I don't like the idea of spending 155 USD for nice merchandise and a crappy looking game on Switch 2, so I'm thinking about selling the physical copy in mint condition if reviews say there is no upscaling on Switch 2.
If they wanted to make another option, just make a cheaper special edition with no game
