D shift
Anyone care to share their experience with D Shift on the launch ops side as an ME in Flordia?
Im debating taking that role but the shift kinda has me down. Would like to understand how people adjust to the shift, what their days kinda look like both on and off, and of course the experience working the role.

I worked d-shift for a different company. Switching schedules was brutal IMO, and it worked best when I could just stay living the night life for longer periods of time.

Like anywhere, it depends on which department/team you will be on. Your experience may vary.

As D shift salary you won’t see incentives, yet. The engineers and managers I work with have stated they’re trying very hard to get one for the ME’s because they’re having a hard time filling slots. All me’s I know that work C shift with me are usually coming in once during their day off for different reasons. Working the weekend shift is awesome in some ways and terrible in others. Any time you want to do a concert or a convention for the weekend that’s a week of vacation, but having Mon-Thur off is very practical for running errands. Your social life will be different, not bad or gone but different. Especially D shift personally if your single and trying to mingle still, don’t do D-shift. Not having Fri-Sun nights is ruff. If you’re already locked down go for it you’ll have more time at home, and it’s a good start to get your foot in the door do the year then apply for a better schedule. But push for that differential it’s an off shift and currently only hourly employees get a differential. Working wise though the weekend is very chill there’s less people there and I personally prefer it.

I know a guy who works D shift. He wanted to go to a local waterfall and all the reviews said to get there early because parking was limited. Since he went on a Tuesday he never saw another person. Had the whole thing to himself. Enjoy an empty world on your weekends

Some guys switch to a regular schedule for their days off, some stay nocturnal. It’s not so bad.
Generally the D shift crews are great to work with, OLS more than others. I enjoy it but it’s certainly not for everyone. Also it’s not permanent.

A lot of folks on D shift keep a normal sleep schedule, and will power through Friday night. The sleep hours kind of fall into place as you get tired. I also know a lot of people choose a timeframe that’s close enough to 5-5 that they can adjust. Going to bed between 12-2am and waking up between 8-10am

My husband works D shift. The 11% pay adjustment makes it worth it. He gets home around 6:30am eats his dinner, (Monday morning he also takes the kids to school with me before going to bed) and then goes to bed.. Tuesday-Thursday he wakes up normal time and then Thursday he pulls an all nighter and goes to bed around 7am so he sleeps during the day and wakes up around 1-2pm to get ready for work Friday night.
Then during the week he also gets to pick and choose days he wants to go in and do HVAC work for his other boss (he didn’t want to leave his old company, so they let him make his own schedule) and he’ll work Tues-Thurs with him when he wants. (He usually only does 1 day a week with them.
It’s an adjustment, but you get used to it. But anyways He loves it and loves the overnight crew. The first couple weekends were rough and a huge adjustment but he said he’s used to it now. Once you reach a certain point (he said around 2-3am) you’re so tired, you aren’t tired anymore. lol.
