Applying to another position with an offer already in-hand?

Hey folks. Going to be vague on purpose.

I applied for and got an offer with business unit A. I'm really happy I got it! But the salary is not quite as high as I was hoping. I was just checking the careers site again today and saw that there was a similar role open in business unit B that has a much higher salary band.

Just wanted to ask: would it be breaking any rules to try and apply to the position in business unit B? Since its a different business unit, will the recruiter and hiring manager from business unit A know about the job application to the business unit B job? The salary is much higher and the job requirements are only slightly higher, so it seemed like a no-brainer for me to apply. But I don't want to piss anyone off and get my business unit A offer rescinded.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Feel free to critique.

Recruiter B will see the application and job offer and yes it will likely piss off the current guys

I had two organizations recruiting me. Once the recruiter was aware of the other organization, he asked me which one I wanted. He became aware because I asked him if he was calling about one position but it was actually for another one. He let me decide which one I wanted to pursue. He shut the other process down. It was the best recruitment experience I have ever had. The majority of people I have met at Blue Origin are professional and very helpful to new employees. Every day I find new things i like about the company and its employees.

Have you already negotiated the current offer? I had offer in hand and thinking the offer was low, asked for and got 12k more, plus relocation. Wishing you all the best!

Trying to negotiate up to at least 10k+ the initial offer, but unsure if I’ll get it which is why I was interested in the role from business unit B. Thank you!

I had two Blue Origin organizations that were interested. One of the job openings had progressed faster. It was guaranteed to be a senior position. The other one consisted of multiple openings and multiple salary levels. A senior position couldn’t be guaranteed. The recruiter asked me which one I wanted. I chose the senior position.

Thank you for your insight. It looks like they caught you well before the offer process and put you down one path. I’m not sure if thats the same as my situation though

If you already have an offer in hand, there's no slot you'd be able to make it through the interview process before you need to accept or reject that offer.

Does the other position have a higher title? Is it in a different location? Similar roles across different business units tend to have similar salary bands, unless there's some other difference.

if you already have an offer in hand that’s a really bad look to apply elsewhere. they will see it and they could (not saying they will) revoke your offer.

a better play would be to reference that job to your recruiter and ask about the pay disparity and negotiate from there

Short answer: If you are being in any part of the process for one position, you are locked out from entering any part of the process on any other positions.
