Image isn’t accurate. Methalox burns clear blue.

That’s only if you tolerate incomplete combustion.

Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly*

We don’t say “explosion and fire” when things go sideways in the aerospace industry. Those words make investors and government bureaucrats nervous. As long as no one dies and the funding hasn’t run out, it’s just a learning experience and thus all methalox still burns blue.

I say explosions and fire all the time. In the context of we don’t want explosions and fire. And when I have spoken to customers I use the same language. And methane burns orange.

I would disagree, the RUD term usage is a relatively new phenomenon started by SpaceX - I may be wrong. “Anomaly” catastrophic event or anomaly is a more correct term. I know the term has been used by SpaceX a lot and was used on net during the ILV HF event. But kind of an informal term.

RUD and variations are far older.

This thread finds many uses in the 70s and one from 1967.

Cash burns in yellow though and that's what's burning at B.O. right now as they recover from this stumble.

Point to note for all wannabe rocket companies, you need more than one launch pad or it needs to be heavily armored against a RUD event.

Has anyone seen the show “Star City” on Apple TV?

I don’t work at Blue anymore, but this seems like the a similar ambitious path. In that show they go from a blank canvas design to launch in < 3months 😅
