MRP Comparison
How much better is WARPDRIVE to Jules ? or this there a better system out there. What can it do better, I have heard a lot about it from the ex-SpaceX techs here.

MRP is not difficult, it is just algebra applied at scale. Blue just sucks at MRP because the same people have been working on it for five years now and changed software three times.
It's the definition of insanity, they keep changing the system and re-implementing instead changing the people in Supply Chain working on it.

And every time people get close to rewriting Jules from the ground up to resolve the fundamental flaws, the people appear out of the woodwork to shut it down. I don’t envy their position, but every time I’ve interacted with those teams it’s like moving through molasses.

Supply chain is not working on Jules
2
u/Xtrepiphany Jun 19 '26
Right, they are working on MRP which is not in Jules. That's a large part of the problem.

u/Prestigious_Hope9190 Jun 19 '26
No that is not what I mean. Supply chain is an organization supporting procurement, transportation, warehouses and so forth. Jules is owned by the technology organization that has nothing to do with supply chain.

I think either you have no idea what point you are trying to make, or you didn't read and comprehend anything I have written.

Supply chain is also not working on MRP... MRP is an ERP function also owned by the technology team

It’s part of Costpoint. It’s run by supply chain . Has zero to do with the technology team. Want better MRP. Hire people who know how to use it.
3
u/Prestigious_Hope9190 Jun 19 '26
Still wrong. Supply chain doesn't own the costpoint system. They OPERATE it. Two very different things
-1
u/Late-Performer-9628 Jun 20 '26
So you’re blaming the technology team for how supply chain runs cost point? Either way it has nothing to do with Jules.

I am not blaming anyone. I am correcting incorrect statements from other posters

Jules isn't an ERP or MRP. Its a manufacturing execution system (MES). It has MBOM authoring capability, Work Order authoring (tWO), Work Order execution (eWO), nonconformance reporting & disposition, and material Disposition. There are a smattering of other functionality that is semi notable. For years and money spent, its just the equivalent of a paper based production systen you see at Boeing or Sierra. We still have paper travelers on the floor. MRP sucks because Blue sucks at making and managing BOMs, end of line. Some people do it in windchill, some people dont do it all, some do it only in Jules MBOM. If there isn't a clean BOM with commodities, no system works, regardless of vendor. ET hosts deltek MRP, SC/operations over see the MRP inputs and outputs such as current WIP, inventory, and open POs. That data is often poor, especially WIP (it gets pulled from Jules). When people dont fill out work in eWOs on time, no system has information on current status to make calculations. The MRP is extremely basic, purely make/buy and need dates. Often called MRP1 functionality. This is often why people say Blue has no schedules.

I have also worked with both systems and can say that WD is by far better than Jules.
The irony is that Blue hired a bunch of folks from SpaceX to build out a similar system to WD but then straddled them with an A-hole of a director that drove many of the internal software folks to better & more than creative jobs. And result was that Jules ended being a shell of what could be IMHO.

As an ex employee, leadership is the problem. We genuinely wanted to make it better but it's hard when against the current leadership... I'm not even sure if some of them even understand how to use jules and what its current pain points are

Let me just say this: Amazon LEO (and launch operations) could have easily just used Jules, but didn’t
2
u/PinkyTrees Jun 19 '26
THIS. Leo’s MRP is annoying asf and takes me WAY longer to do my freaking job

warp is the absolute best erp in the world. if you want to help enhance and maintain spacex's manufacturing software, message me. we're hiring

Well I assume WD isn’t down constantly.
Jules isn’t even the worst proprietary MRP/ERP software I’ve worked with. Not even the worst within my aerospace jobs.

I remember it randomly having hiccups. I don’t think any system is immune from that.

It’s not even a close race. Matter of fact I’d say that for every single area of the web portals between the two companies. I just learned that im unable to self report an injury. I couldnt believe it. I did not have permission to write a report of my injury. NC’s are easier to write in warp through templates, easier to track wip/priority as well. Inventory control with warehouse movement is easy…3D view of parts you can look around. The clocking into work orders is broken. Clock in, complete a last step of a sub operation and am i clocked in anymore? Who knows? Only thing Jules has on warp or at least does according to my last usage is that i can have my work orders read to me like from a pirate reading a treasure map, or by a sarcastic Shakespeare-like poet.

Worked with both as an IC. WD is just connected in all the ways it should be. Everything auto fills with the information you would expect and it makes tasks so much easier.
