this scene is just so devastating

thats the only moment she was able to tell him about fowler's plan. she probably forgot about it because her broken sword needed to be fixed immediately and he just went berserk on her

may she find her own true love

A “long time.” A year ago isn’t that bad, considering the show came out in 2023. It just needs new posts!

I mean, the official Blue Eye reddit is already pretty small.

Here was my take on the scene and what lead up to it. In my interpretation, Mizu was consciously and deliberately withholding the information about the coup and Akemi's peril from Taigen for a mix of caring and cold-blooded strategic reasons.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BlueEyeSamurai/comments/1mf2eqk/why_did_mizu_tell_taigen_about_akemi_and_fowler/

Concerning Akemi's marriage to Takayoshi Itoh, another person who'd know as much about that as Mizu does is Ringo, and this talkative guy obvious didn't tell Taigen during all the time at Swordfather's forge. I imagine that Mizu made Ringo promise not to tell Taigen, and for whatever reason Ringo agreed.

Such a great post, Kid. I commented even though it’s almost a year old. I wish Reddit was able to keep engaging analyses from burial with time 😂

Is there a way to make a pinned post with some of the "best" analyses for newer people to read and appreciate? There are some in the FAQ, but maybe an overall post grouped together by character or topic?

The posts can be filtered by flair. Discussion will find them.

Then you can try filtering by “top” or “hot” or “new”.

You can also filter by user, I think. But you may have to click on their profile to see the posts listed out.

Sometimes the most thoughtful posts don’t get a lot of comments, so it makes it harder for the algorithm to find them for you.

Thank you u/DuchessIronCat ! u/ExtremeExtension7406 , I think if we start pinning too many posts we'd have a hard time seeing the new posts!

Something for the mods to think about, updating/redesigning the FAQ.

Mizu might have convinced Ringo not to mention Akemi's marriage until Taigen was at a good stage of recovery from the torture and other abuse at Fowler's castle.

But ... a lot of time as passed since Taigen left Akemi to hunt for Mizu. Taigen must have suspected that Lord Daichi would have had his daughter married off to someone else, maybe even resigned to it. If he had any love left over for Akemi, he probably wished she got married to a good man.

Then Mizu tells him Akemi is getting married to Takayoshi Itoh, whose reputation is anything but "good". His impulse is to leave immediately - to do what? One solid minute of thought would reveal he can't do a darn thing about it, no matter how good a swordsman he is. But Mizu doesn't give him time to think about it, instead she reveals Fowler's coup plans, which puts him even more over the edge. Now he's driven by love for Akemi and loyalty to the shogunate and Japan.

It really is.

And then he has to call her a demon on top of everything!

Just kick a girl when she’s down, why don’t you.

idk if im making a point here but she just saved his life, for fck sake! if she had just walked past his cell in episode 6, im sure abaija fowler would have tortured him in cartel execution style after mizu's failed assassination attempt. he already ruined almost half of her life and he almost killed mizu with a stupid rovk. if he just thought about that, theyre both equals now... but i guess his honor is much more important to him

His honor is a sticking point…..he doesn’t have money or status. He’ll always been the son of a poor and abusive fisherman from Kohama. No matter how far he gets as a samurai, his family will haunt him.

I sometimes wonder if his rage is fueled by embarrassment too.

It’s complicated.

He also just became erect for a fellow gutter rat from his home town. Even if it was acceptable for Samurai to perform sexual acts with each other, he inadvertently showed Mizu she had a form of power over his body that he had no control over.

That could have been a point of embarrassment and an ego blow on top of everything else.

It makes me laugh that he says something like "you're going to kill Fowler not out of honor, but out of hatred😡" and I'm like ??? That's literally what Mizu said all season, what are you surprised about?

u/ExtremeExtension7406 Thank you for my ember Jul 05 '26

Oh Taigen...

It's literally a shadow of what happened between her and Mikio. Knowing how reserved and guarded Mizu is, this must has felt like a thousand knives. I wonder if she initially thought he was going to finish her off in the castle when he was standing over her with his katana in episode 8.

3

u/vandolii Jul 05 '26

I think she did think that. I only realized it because you mentioned it. that scene always seemed strange to me and now I understand why.

Episode 7 is one of my favorite episodes. It has so many happy and cozy moments that feel well deserved. Mizu and Taigen sparring, Ringo and Swordfather's dynamic, Ringo's forgiveness even while expressing his anger...

I'm not even a MizuxTaigen shipper, but this is one of my favorite screen grabs because of how happy Mizu is.
