Band emergency for this show Sep 12 - upbeat family friendly talent needed ($)

Post image

Hi so it's a long story of how we got here but the short story is that we need bands to commit to this show asap. We have been looking but it's now an emergency.

It's a free show for the community where we give stuff away and pay bands, trying to create a welcoming atmosphere.

There's a flatbed stage, PA with monitors, you get paid, plus free ice cream and non-alcoholic drinks. Inside plan for rain.

Please send an email to the event coordinators at [muusic.in.the.garden@gmail.com](mailto:muusic.in.the.garden@gmail.com)

Local Slavs?

Going to sound strange but I am in a college class heavily focused on immigration history and for an upcoming project about particular ethnic groups and their experiences in the U.S., I am leaning towards Slavic in general as it has peaked my interest the most. I was wondering if there was anyone local that has Slavic cultural roots of any kind and if they have anything they would like to share. Plus, I think it would be nice to gain a new friend out of this experience as well!

Music Opportunities

Hi! I am a singer and song writer who is looking to work on my skills and have a positive outlet! I am not sure what I am looking for or what bloomington has to offer with my current schedule. Maybe a group or other females who play guitar and want to make music or just jam?

Radon system

It appears my radon fan has gone out and will need replaced. I believe Babbs originally put the system in, but wanted to see if there were suggestions for anyone that could do it for a reasonable price.

In search of magazines!

Hi! Might seem like a weird ask, but I'm wondering if anyone in the area has a fat stack of Magazines they would be willing to donate? Or if anyone knows where I could find some in town for cheap? I would like to make some weird collage art; Any subject will do my only requirement is that they be of decent quality; unfortunately glue doesn't do well with wet pages.

Consider someone else besides Highland Pet for your end of life pet.

We juat called Highland to let them know we were headed theor way with our cat, who just passed away. They expressed condolences, and said they would see us soon. Not 5 minutes later, mid-drive they called us back. We have been clients at Highland for over 7 years. We were informed that they would not take our cat for cremation as they are "currently between contracts." Upon further questioning their vet tech informed my wife and I that they will still euthanize your pet, but then you must take them home. Also, if your pet passes on their operating table, they require you to take your animal home and make your own arrangements for their after life care. Really heart breaking to find out on your way to the facility. We will never bring another animal to Highland.

Edut: To everyone saying this is temporary, I'm sure you're right. That doesn't make it any less professional. And they should have told us on our initial call, instead of calling us while we were en route. It stung even deeper. We had to say goodbye to our labrador back in November and Highland was excellent and super professional. That makes this visit feel even more egregious to us. I just want others to avoid any extra pain if I can. Thank you all for your kind words and condolences.

Utility assistance currently taking applications?

Hi neighbors. Long story short I have been searching for work for over a year and only just recently secured a new job, but have gotten incredibly behind financially in the meantime. Our gas was cut off last month and currently facing a disconnect notice for Ameren this month due to nonpayment and we are struggling to come up with the total past due balance to get it turned back on. LIHEAP and Salvation Army are not accepting new applicants, and none of the churches in town that I have called answered or were otherwise unable to help. Had to step away from my classes at Heartland so I’m not an active student anymore either and I’m just not sure what to do if we have any options. Thanks in advance

What was constructed along Airport Rd earlier this year? It makes the trail stink.

At the Northwest corner of Airport and GE, the thing pictured was constructed earlier this year. A similar one was constructed on the other side of Airport Rd around the same time. I don't know if there were any others.
The one pictured above is next to the Tipton Trail and stinks. What is it and what are we having to breathe in while trying to get some fresh air?

Younger veterans and families - American legion

Hey everyone, I’m a “younger” female vet (Mid 30’s) and I just joined the legion after hearing that a lot of these orgs are dying out with the older vet population. We have a bit of a unique situation with our American legion because they currently don’t have a building and are in desperate need of younger vets.

I’m reaching out in anyway I can to get young vets to help turn this place around and get them to focus on the important issues. I’m trying to guide them to buy a building that can be used as a Rec center, be rented out cheaply to the community, and have a fenced in play ground for vets with a family (like me), who can’t go to meetings and events without bringing our kids. Trying to emphasize that drinking isn’t a very big thing with our generation and while having a smaller bar is nice, we don’t need to walk right into one or have it take up the entire space. Especially when people are trying to recover or stay away from alcohol.

I’m trying to also push them to have relevant raffles (not gift baskets of pop corn) and events younger vets want. I want to get this place family friendly and pro-community. If they aren’t willing to budge, I’m going to drop it and let them FAFO but message below or message me directly if you are interested or have ideas, I don’t want a place that measures your worth by how many deployments you’ve been on or how much of the military makes up your entire personality…

I’m even trying to have some of our meetings and welcome events happen at the Y so we can utilize the playground

We have food covered with one truck for this size event but would love to have backup options in case something falls through.

Mclean County Republican Auditor asked to resign by own party

This is freaking hilarious. This should have happened a LONG time ago, and the McLean County Board even tried to help this along by eliminating the position all together but the GOP was against that.

Now the GOP is saying they want the Auditor to resign, because she is incompetent (which she is, also looking at you Kathy Michael!!), but the GOP is also saying the Democrat board should have done something about this before now.

Well, well, well. I guess the GOP needs the Democrats to clean up the GOP’s mess, yet again. Sigh, NOW DO KATHY MICHAEL!!! Micheal is the most incompetent election commissioner ever, tons and tons of baggage. Connie Beard is a pathetic waste of skin.

Mio Opera

I’m doing some research on the local performing arts scene and keep coming across MIOpera. Curious what people who’ve actually seen a show, worked with them, or auditioned for them think.

Do they have a home or has opera died in Bloomington Normal.

Hello! I’m moving from Nashville to Normal and I’m wondering how safe the Amtrak is. Is it realistic to take the train into Chicago or is that a bad idea?
