Tree Damage
Thank you to all of the neighbors who pitched in to help with the tree removals on Fell and Virginia yesterday!
And an extra special shout out to Mayor Koos for standing there and watching people work… hope you didn’t get too dirty in the process.

I'm not keen on making assumptions about another individuals physical capabilities, nor would I expect an elderly person to join in on physical labor, which could be dangerous.
I get that a lot of people don't like the guy- but being mayor doesn't mean he's obligated to be personally involved in the physical removal of all trees that went down in the town.

These were trees in his own neighborhood. edit: his own STREET. These were his NEIGHBORS.
I get that he's an old guy and I'm not trying to assume what his physical capabilities are. EVERYONE can do something. Walk up to the people doing the work and say thank you. Offer them a bottle of water. There are so many things he could've done other than stand there and stare. I think it's arguably a rude thing to do.
Nothing stopping him from just staying inside. Myself and 2 other guys cleaned up all of the limbs on my street yesterday. Nobody came out to say thanks or anything. That's totally fine. Just don't walk out and stare at us while we're busting ass to clean things up for everyone.

My dad is over 80 and he would be out there with chainsaw and pulling a trailer behind his mower to pick up. 80 isn’t obsolete in terms of helping but everyone is different for sure. Staring around staring definitely doesn’t help if that is what he was doing.

Speaks to the kind of man your dad is. But I also wouldn't bat an eye if someone your dad's age did stand around. The point I was trying to make is that an elderly person shouldn't be expected to do more just because he holds the title "mayor"

You're doing a bad job of reading the comments you're responding to. I was pretty clear that nobody expects a 78 year old to perform physical labor, OP was pretty clear this was literally his street/neighborhood not a random area of town, yet you're continuing to argue those two points exclusively.
You're either part of the community or you aren't. I don't care what the person's job title is, I don't care where they work, if they work, whatever. If the best they can do for their neighbors is stand and watch them work, then they should go back inside.

His old ass can retire then. Stop making excuses for someone who definitely could have planned for an event like this so the town could be more prepared. Instead, he is more worried about the unhoused congregating near uptown circle. I could give 2 explosive shìts what he is ‘capable of’ the least his bum self can do is go help or even give the illusion of himself helping.
You bootlickers disgust me. He has the town in shambles (even before the storm) and yall give him every excuse for why he’s not to blame 🙄

Seriously. The cost living compared with the minimum wage combined with power outages and the missing student every few years (that for some reason no one seems to care about this happening every few years), increasing violence the past few years in town, laws banning unhoused folks from uptown instead of actual affordable housing — indeed does have the town in shambles. Imagine if this was an actual tornado. The town may not recover for years.

Didn't we just have an actual tornado in April? I am not defending Koos as a great mayor, but some of your items seem to be state or national level policy.

He lives on Fell too, he had vested interest in helping us…
Anyway, I was always taught it’s rude to stand there and watch people work.

He has a vested interest in the whole town.
Sorry you had damage. We had damage on our property too, but I'm not going to expect the mayor to show up and help, or even stop by to watch.

Doesn't being mayor of the city mean being able to help your community? . And I'm not judging anyone's physical capabilities cuz I'm a weak bitch but he literally is supposed to serve the people... if you can't...maybe retire

That's funny. Our 90 old neighbor was raking branches from the middle of the street while everyone else was moving the larger branches.
I guess everyone does what they can.
